A disappointing incarnation

First of all, I'm a huge fan of the Maria-sama ga Miteru franchise. The story isn't complex, nor is it particularly well-done, but the series has such a pleasant atmosphere and is so unabashedly girly that it's hard not to love. That said, the manga rendition of the series is depressingly disappointing. The novels' stories are all here, presented as faithfully as can be hoped for, but sapped of their original charm. Not a whit of that romantic Lillian Jogakuen atmosphere is present. Without Konno's pretty prose or the anime's quiet piano music, it's admittedly hard to portray, and the artist's clear lack of skill doesn't help matters. Within these volumes lies some of the worse art I've ever subjected my eyes to in the shoujo genre. The body proportions look painfully skewed and the faces are worse. Everyone stands in one of exactly four poses that Nagasawa can draw. She's bad with backgrounds and absolutely terrible with hands, and she tries to cover up her lack of ability with lots of chibi panels and Zip-A-Tone overload on every page.

But I and most of the people bothering with this manga will still read it because of that love for the Maria-sama ga Miteru manga. The charm of the source material keeps it from being totally awful. Not a page goes by that I don't wish was drawn by someone else, though.

i've just happened to open this manga today (because i don't often read shoujo-ai stuff). I have to say, it's incredible. The love between girls is just so sweet and lots of caring. I really like it and recommend to everyone. If you just want a heart warming story then it's really for you. Also if you like sweet shoujo then I also recommend it. Even if you don't often read shoujo-ai or even hate the idea of it, just read it. It's not really about passionate love or anything, but it's really an innocent love and lots of care for the person you love. It's really like reading the love between family members though ofc there's still a different to it. Sweet.

I love this manga, the character development is great, in fact, i find myself loving the characters. =) It's very shoujo and it's personally my favourite manga/series, excluding KnM. Please read it! It's great! ~^_^~

It seems much more lighthearted than the rather dramatic anime, but that could be the faster pacing of the medium. It's also quite hilarious in parts.

Nice artwork and story. Simple and very shoujo-ish.
