Description
Sawako Kuronuma is the perfect heroine... for a horror movie. With her jet-black hair, sinister smile and silent demeanor, she's often mistaken for the haunting movie character Sadako. But behind her scary facade is a very misunderstood teenager. Too shy to fit in, all she wants to do is make some friends. But when a popular boy in class befriends her, she's sure to make more than just that--she's about to make some enemies too!

Note: Won the Best Shoujo Manga award in the 32nd Annual Kodansha Manga Award and was nominated for the first Manga Taisho awards in 2008.

This is one the best mangas I have ever read. I love everything about it. The author really manages to make you feel immersed in those characters lives. Highly recommended

Slow But Realistic and Lovely
by Gingeh

Rating: 9.0 / 10.0
-slow but steady growth and development, emphasis on the slow. occasionally drags, but it is 123 (long) chapters, so that's kind of to be expected. i do feel like it could/should have been shorter, but i can't say what should have been sacrificed because by the end, all the little steps along the way felt important. i think, despite its length, this is more of a binge manga, because unless you consume it in large chunks, the slow pace can be boring.

-that being said, every character and relationship matures so much and so well with that pacing. nobody is completely unrecognizable, but at the same time everyone is a different person in a different place by the time the story ends

-every relationship is my favorite when it's the one the manga is focusing on. Like, my favorite couple in the series literally changes at least three time, and the last couple still has me asking 'how did the mangaka get me shipping this?? so strongly??'.

-feels very real and very emotional. i literally laughed out loud or cheered or started crying multiple times during reading this. not everything is perfect. there are bumps and breakups and relationships that don't work out period, and it's sad but also wonderful and refreshing.

-this is THE school life slice of life manga. no question.

SWEET AND INNOCENT

If you want to have a break with heavy and emotional (or smut, perhaps?) manga, THEN THIS IS FOR YOU!!!
This is probably the first manga that really hooked me in the otaku world (lucky I haven't stumbled any psychological mangas that time lol) aaand this is probably the shoujo manga whenever I need to get back my sanity (from heavy mangas lol)
Aaand Kazehaya's probably one of the reason why my standard to boys is high LOLOLOL

This is just so cute. Even though it was slow and dragging, it was realllyyy worth it. The pain, the anguish, the strong desire to just bang their heads together and shout
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
"U LOVE EACH OTHER NOW KISS!!!!"
WILL LET YOU FEEL CONTENT WITH THE OUTCOME. EVERYTHING THEY'VE GONE THROUGH WILL BE VERYYYY WORTH IT. I SWEAR. Because of how the story was dragging, it made me realize (even more lol) that great things take time. How they got together was probably the best for them, considering that Kuronuma was able to express her feelings well to Kazehaya. (I honestly have problems with the girls confessing first, but this one's an exception lol)

I love how they were each other's support.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
How Kazehaya was the one who told Kuronuma to just express what she feels. And after 100 chapters, how Kazehaya admitted to Kuronuma that he admired her in more ways than one.
And I honestly think that's how a couple should be.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Be each other's number 1 fan!

A love full of innocence is something really worthy to watch for. It feels like a dream - a dream of a perfect love that touches one's soul. It gives you so much hope - hope that does not sleep. A feeling of pleasure that you can be loved like you've never been loved before. Kazehaya and Sawako is the best feeling that ever happened to me. I will forever treasure them.

What did you do in high school?

You follow Sawako and her friends for 3 years. The ending mimics that fact, as in it doesn't really feel like an end. And it's not, it's "just" the end of high school. 3 years. Make friends, find a boyfriend, find your path in life, live. 3 years of Sawako's life in a manga (with some chapters devoted to the side characters). It's a sweet and slow manga, but fitting. I wished Ryuu had more screen time though (I really like he!).

The relationships and the friendships are relatable (in their own way). They/it cover a large group of people.

The last year you are following them, I felt the plot and pacing got quicker, which I didn't appreciate. It felt like a lot was going on in that last year, which didn't need to be there, for the main couple (aka way too much side character information, which didn't need to be there. Especially when they don't have all that much screen time in the first 2 years).

Should have ended once the climax, the plot, is over

I loved this series as it was unique in its own way. The romance can be described as touching, hilariously awkward, and sweet. With that said, now I feel the author is dragging the story which is killing the series. The author is delivering a reality effect onto this which to me, is really boring. I used to be eager to read whenever a new chapter is out. I even bought the volumes. But now I find the lack of incentive to continue reading...I'm at the ch 90s...well, I'm considering dropping this and just remember up to the point of them confessing. End. I recommend Stop reading after the two main couple got together bc now it's no longer hilarious and the refreshing touches are gone. It's quite stagnated...dull...right now. Used to be a 9 for me, but now it's 6.5.

A Good Manga

I really really loved this manga at first, but then it got so sad, and I can't really bear the sadness, so I ended up sorta dropping it. Yet I still come back every now and then, can't seem to lave it alone in the end. I recommend it very much! It's a very good manga I think! So if you can handle a lot of heartaches definitely read, I can't…. :s

At chapter 90

I picked up this manga when it was already 90 chapters in. Had I started earlier in the run, I think this would have gotten me down quickly because there were whole dozens of chapters where no one seemed to move forward (like a certain other manga I can think of ::cough cough:: Fairy Tail ::cough cough:smile, but since I could read two whole years of their relationships all in one block, it was very enjoyable.

Now that I've caught up and things are at an emotional peak, we'll see how I handle the updates. smile But, regardless of that, the romance is sweet, if a little dense (though it fits the characters, innocent, dense, and self-loathing as they may be), and the daily life can be quite interesting, though we mainly hit the holiday-high-points.

Pin is a great teacher. You don't think that early on, but he's an amazing teacher. And that's coming from a teacher.

This manga is really slow-paced so those who hate slow-paced story or romance..then I do not recommend this manga to you. At first I wasn't really interested, but when I kept reading it, I really enjoyed it although I feel like the mangaka is dragging this for too long. I think the mangaka should wrap it up now..

Slow (and that's what's good about it)
by Fantasier

Well, it's the first Shoujo I--being a guy--really pick up and dig into the Shoujo world. The story is slow, and I can tell, even if I don't read that many Shoujo's, that it is far slower than other series of its kind.

But I think that is a good thing.

Having read some more Shoujo's, I can tell that the characteristic of this type is that the story is usually not realistic; the relationship developments between protagonists are usually too fast, hence making them unrealistic, which might not really matter because we don't need them to be 'real' as long as they can make us giggle--a job Shoujo's do.

So if someone wonders why this slow thing catches on, I will simply say to them that it is way more realistic with the slowness. The slowness is what makes this series unique. Well, you may argue, but personally I don't think people develop such deep emotion as love that easily as seen in the other series.

I'm not saying this manga doesn't do its job as a Shoujo though. It makes me, and likely anyone who reads it, giggle and blush indeed. Even though the late story, as being published now, is not as good as before, it still deserves 9 out of 10 from me. Please don't make it too long or else it will become another manga I'm sad about.
