Description
From Bliss:

Motoki was originally an ordinary guy with an ordinary life. Soon, however, Motoki starts noticing that things are changing in himself and his surroundings. His bad eyesight is cured, and suddenly he becomes prettier. As if in response to this mysterious change, two strange men appear in class, Shidou and Kubota. His classmates tell him that they have always been there, but he has no recollection of them. Then he finds out that both of them are after his life, and planning on "devouring his heart."

I liked it, but there was A LOT of loose ends that just didn't get explored. It kept proposing questions and then not answering them. It's not like it was an intolerable read, but it was just... so sparse of substance.

There are times when I just have to read to something to see exactly how bad can it get. This is one of those times. Half a chapter in and I knew this is really horrible, and would be. And it's not the kind of horrible that's so bad that it actually becomes somewhat good in a bad way. This is just bad. To give just one example;
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Shidou when he goes crazy and loses control of himself attacks Motoki. Now, what Shidou would have actually done if he had lost his senses would be to rip out Motoki's heart, eat it and repelish his own life force like he is supposed to. But since this is yaoi, Shidou rapes Motoki. I mean, really? Really? If you wanted Motoki to be raped use someone else or at least set it up differently.

There are at least two times the narrative flow breaks, like the one mentioned above, in almost every chapter. Neither is the art good enough to stomach this.
I only character which I liked was the black haired intelligent clan member (see how bad this is? I can't even remember the name of the character whom I marginally liked) but then it's ruined for me.
Anyway, I will end my ranting here. Just avoid this manga.

Somewhere between mediocre and bad

I'm not sure how to describe this manga. It wasn't so bad that I wanted to drop it, but it definitely isn't a "good" story. I won't deny that just being a BL with a lot of chapters and a plot might be why I was hesitant to drop it. I'll just have to break it down.

Plot: This is one of those "Good concept, Poor execution" stories. I like its whole "mistaking creations for creators" message. The more humans tried to use science to explain unscientific creatures, the faster those creatures died off. It's not the first "Why do we exist?" stories I've read, but it didn't fail to rub my interest. This story's ultimate downfall lied in its...

Characters: Jesus are these some of the blandest characters I've ever seen. Not to mention some of them are dangerously stupid. I can understand the "naive and innocent" main character Motoki being stupid, but why are these ancient creatures such imbeciles? Oh yeah, the main character is one of those "Don't kill anyone ever, even when they're trying to kill you." characters and he repeatedly ran head first into danger. In other words, he's too stupid to live and constantly needs to be rescued.
There was a weird 180 degree turn in principles near the end. Even if it was the smart thing to do, it just came off as lazy writing. Especially since these "immortal" creatures suddenly became one-shotable. But even with all of these bland and stupid characters, the story could be worth a 6 if it had good...

Art: It doesn't. It's very plain. Everyone wears plain t-shirts and jeans, have boring hair and boring faces. Their bodies are disproportionate. The action scenes aren't the worse, but they aren't special either. The backgrounds and scenery are average. Plus I have a sneaking suspicion that the mangaka didn't include the backstories for these creatures because plain t shirt and jeans are easier to draw than detailed ancient clothes. You'd think we'd see a flash back of how these creatures came to be at least right? Nope, all vague text.

Overall it's a 4/10

Just awful. If you want to read something this shoujo-cliche, at least Silver Diamond executed it much better. Even UraBoku is better. The MC is a useless uke-in-distress Gary Stu with no personality (using the term "uke" ironically here). The art is awful (and the artist draws the same outfit for most of the males fml), and there's sameface syndrome with two of the females, at least.

The couple has no chemistry whatsoever.

Interesting Plot, Poor Execution

I completely support authors in the BL genre to create slower paced, more detailed work that focuses on the plot instead of on smut scenes, but this work falls very short of what it is attempting. The action/fighting scenes are nice, but as one mentioned before, the protagonist is ridiculously useless and keeps doing stupid things and needing to be rescued.

Instead of focusing on the actual details about this "clan" and what anticipates to be a very interesting alternate history, most of the "slow plot development" is actually just romance scenes one after the other of hearts beating, blushing, woe-is-me tearful outbursts, hugs and comforting, and professions of endearing love. In other words, it takes after a typical shallow BL manga type and draws out all the really boring confession scenes and the actual plot (hunter & prey, alt. species) is completely used as a tool of convenience to get the main pairing together.

If you want a similar plot, but done better, check out Uragiri wa Boku no Namae o Shitteiru which is pretty much BL anyway, and the protagonist is actually likable and strong in his own way.

That being said, this particular author has put out interesting BL manga in the past. Short, comical works seem to be her strength.

Well, as I see that reviewer before me all praised this manga.
I don't really get it.
The plot was awesome, yet the main uke character... I just want to bash his head and say, "STOP PITIYING YOUR SELF AND DO SOMETHING!" what kind of man would that easily gave up? It angered me...
anyway, other than that, this manga is good.
Don't get me wrong. I love uke character such as Ayase from OgN, which was basically girl with boys appearance. But this uke character was too much. too weak. to dependent.

yamakami riyu is well known for telling solid stories, and this is probably my current favourite, after mitasareru kuchibiru. it's moving quite slowly, and i have so far no idea what will happen (haven't bought the tanks yet), but am eager to find out. good, quiet character development. her art (which isn't my fave) has gotten more fluid since the early volumes.
