Queen Alexandra

Now here is a series that desperately wants to be made fun of. Alexandra is a pretty pretty princess with an oh-so tragic backstory that left her blind and, apparently, severely mentally disabled. She then proceeds to blindly traipse around the kingdom, forcing herself to put her complete trust in every single person she meets in the belief that such a practice would make everyone love her, as directed by her late mother (who had to have been some kind of evil). Like Candide or something, right? Doesn't it sound like an awesome set up for a black satire? An ironic melodrama? A guro lolicon hentai?

Well, no. This is a shoujo in the most cliché sense of the word. Alexandra manages to take down bad guys intent on stealing from/murdering her purely by being pathetically naïve, and ends up using that skill(?) to gain the love, respect, and profound pity of everyone around her. Yes, this is a manga that attempts to teach little girls that putting your complete trust in every stranger you meet will guarantee you popularity, a hot older boyfriend, and general awesome. Who paid you to write this, Miuchi? Why is he not in jail?

Anyway, the art is quite nice and it's a good read for a laugh between your guro lolicon hentai bedtime reading.

It´s an upbeat shoujo tale of good people. Even the queen is kinda good till she gets more villainous. I recommend even if you don´t like current shoujo stories. But if you like cartoony up beat stories where people aren´t evil bastards, then this is for you.

I don´t like that they added a love story especially with a random doctor I also don´t like that it took the doctor to get her on the path of winning people over, and instead it would have made in place with her character to figure it out herself. It just doesn´t match, and was unnecessary, and anyone, even a child, would know it´d be impossible. The mom´s plan seems stupid anyway. She could probably have arranged a marriage with her step son and it would have solved everything. But at the same time, I doubt they would have chosen a blind, and thus crippled, princeSS, to the throne. It´s almost paradoxical because the step mother would have had to have noble blood anyway. Some of the dialogue likes to stress things that are obvious and it´s really redundant about it. It´s also bad advice to sign things blindly.

Y´know I like optimistic characters but this takes it into a rather bad direction sometimes. Unless you think she was trying to guilt people into doing the right thing. Which is a pretty bad message itself. In the end it all works out right.
