Miko is a shrine maiden who has never had much success at seeing or banishing spirits. Then she meets Kagura, a sexy demon who feeds off women's feelings of passion and love. Kagura's insatiable appetite has left many girls at school brokenhearted, so Miko casts a spell to seal his powers. Surprisingly, the spell works - sort of - but now Kagura is after her!

Just Another Shoujo

I am curious how anyone can read past chapter 2. It's definitely got the trademarks of a shoujo manga all over it but I was hoping that including an incubus would make it more interesting. But after reading chapter 2 I realized it was just another shoujo manga with nothing especially funny or intriguing to make me keep reading.
I'm not a big fan of the shoujo genre, mind you, but I was hoping for more than I got. I won't be continuing past chapter 2, that's for sure.

it starts kinda funny and straight forward. A temple girl is approached by her friend with a broken heart over some guy. Her friend "lies" and tells her he is possessed so that she will listen to her heartbroken story, but it backfires and she goes after the guy. It ends up that he himself is one of the most powerful evil spirits and she seals his power in her by mistake. She ends up taking responsibility for him. He's a little prevented being. He needs lust to survive so he sneaks into her dream here and there to have sex with her in it to survive?!... They fall for each other but complications come up here and there. The last chapter she is almost about to finally have sex with him but the dad walks in and stops it. Then in a clash of spells the daughter and father's spirits are switched into each others body. It's a bit boring besides that right now.. Kind of a bland and small story. Hopefully it will get better.

Artistry could have been better for the girl. Really good for the guys.

I like it....more...compared to other works of this author. :/ Its not that bad, and not too much smut either. But I like smut lol. I really didnt expect this kind of manga from Shinjo Mayu. Its mostly raping the girl, that's what happens in her manga. And the art is good too.

I dont even know what i expected when i started reading this, maybe some change in her work.Have to be honest and say that this manga is beyond ridiculous.I have read up till 12 chapter and was so bored i didnt read most of dialogue.Girl is beyond annoying, doesent even know what she wants.Guy is sometimes cute but thats all.Random chars just pop out from everywhere and have no meaning for whole story at all.
No rating for this one from me.
oh and i have to mention that i liked cover for 3rd and 4th volume, looking at it made me think that Mayu sensei would be better only drawing and let some other mangaka make the plot.

Let's say that for a Shinjo Mayu this is a miracle. So far is quite entertaining. I was reluctant at first, but I'm happy I gave it a chance.

For the story
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
I like to read it and keeps me doing it, but I'm not quite convinced since in every chapter there're different characters who don't stay for too long (the most I remember was 2 chp.). It's not a bad storytelling, on the contrary, but there were really good ones like the fox guy and the ice man... It needs like a main problem to keep going. The environment is complicated (no school life/slice of life type), so there must be something dragging along.

The characters
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
I'm quite surprised by the girl. Isn't thaaat typical as you have experimented with Shinjo Mayu's works. She can stand by herself and isn't annoying. The guy is quite likable too. It's supposed to be a lewd demon, but also has his positive-romantic side and a spoiled child attitude even out of his chibi form.

The romance
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
As expected takes a major part. Although the speed, in the first 2 volumes was pretty decent. The "problem" is supposed to be the human non-human relationship. At least, I haven't seen a rigid argument that forbids that. From V2 or V3 he insists in taking her physically which is really a problem **cough** Black Bird **cough** , then his father appears, inserts some kind of drama, and when she's finally willing to give herself, the guy says that he cannot take her. It's kinda contradictory and I hope the future chapters make me understand.

Overall I'm satisfied if we continue with the pace of the first 3 volumes. I admit that the comedy is pretty nice, made me laugh a lot, and is one of the reasons this manga is in my reading list.

To me this is one of Shinjo Mayu's better mangas. She can get pretty sadistic with some of her stories, but this one has a good balance. The storyline is also good. It's an enjoyable read so far.

I must admit this one is similar to Black bird But it's not raunchy, poorly written or makes you feel like an masochist reading it so that's definitely an Plus.

The heroine isn't weak and definitely uses her strength when she can, though she's not perfect. also she never hesitates to put the guy in his place
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
changing his original form to that of an tiny, chibi XD
The guy is an pervert but somewhat harmless
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
in his chibi form.
Miko isn't exactly dependent on Kagura,
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
She does need his help in seeing spirits as she herself cannot see them, so she can banish/exorcise them but if he can, Kagura uses his powers.
While the series has potential, it does have flaws so far. While not smut...
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Sex is present, Apparently that's why Kagura is an Womanizer, He's gets his strength from being with girls. While he and Miko haven't done it yet, he does go into her dreams and umm..yeah, So It's Kinda like Black bird in the sense of "Will they do it or not." I've gotta say i'm not happy about that. >.> We really don't need another heroine giving into The pervy guy thing. Shoujo is sadly getting popular with that lately..
Hopefully it won't actually become that. =/ I'll keep reading..

EDIT: Just got through with Vol 3, the series is doing pretty good actually
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
I'm very proud of Miko, Though she has strong feelings for Kagura, she's actually protective of her virginity, and doesn't let Kagura have his way with her. and Kagura is actually pretty tame and Genuinely Cares/loves Miko, he's somewhat getting better.
That's definitely an huge Plus For Shinjo. I Hope she won't ruin it though!

I read these reviews thinking that this manga might be on par with [manga]Goshimei Desu[/manga], but that was all just wishful thinking. No way, no how. This manga might be considered "good" for Mayu Shinjo, but compared to other works, this is just...sad. In fact, this just makes me think of Inuyasha with a shoujo bias(that seems like it wants to veer into smut, fast). This story might have had good potential, but from what I've seen so far, it looks like it'll veer off into the trashier side of shoujo soon. If you want to see an example of a "good" piece of work by this author, look at the manga I mentioned earlier. That one sounds kind of crack, but has a way more interesting story than this one. Try it if you really must read Shinjo Mayu's works.

FOR ONCE Shinjo Mayu hit almost all the right notes: she's got the spunky, unyielding heroine with a good spine, the heroine does not succumb to the oh-so-sensual charms of the typical SM male lead, and she's got total authority over the guy and revels in it too. Now here's the crucial point : I hope to see that she manages to continue this streak, and realizes that not all shoujo mangas have to have clingy, weak heroines to sell. Speaking as a Shinjo Mayu hater, I was pleasantly surprised at this (I've only read the first chapter) but if she manages to end this manga well, then I'd say she's pretty much on the right track.

Spoiler (highlight to view)
The girl angsts and goes along the lines of "Why am I so passionate about him, I shouldn't", while nothing wrong, takes place about HALFWAY in the first chapter, runs off and gets into trouble. Add to that a bishounen third wheel who calls her PREY, and I could see where all this is going.
Now you might argue that I'm being totally unfair here, but, this is none other than Shinjo Mayu, infamous for unlikable, spineless heroines and even more detestable men, I know what to expect based on her works. Therefore, I won't be checking this out until sometime later.

this manga is one of my fav mangas of shijo's recent works...
its like the manga heroine is always dependant on the hero for everything
but not in ayakashi koi emaki
the main lead girl's got a strong backbone & mostly dominated the cute hero
Kagura's really the manipulative kind but Miko just won't be manipulated...
so far watever i'veread is really cute & funny...
i hope someone scanlates ch2 fast XD
