Description

From Viz:
Kahoko is a normal student in the General Education department with absolutely no musical skill, but all that changes when she catches a glimpse of an elusive fairy who lives on campus. The fairy grants Kahoko a magic violin, and before she knows it, she's nominated to participate in the school's music competition with five very attractive boys. Will she win love and fame, or will bitter rivalry rule the day?

Of course I like the Manga so far that it made me read it every May. The story is good much more Awesome in Manga rather than the Anime.

The ending is kinda upseting, I really want to see that they kissed (TдT). I want to play the game but I can't understand Jp...

ok i rated this a 10 at first now down to 6 after finishing it, very disappointed with the ending

i watched the anime first then read the manga, was expecting more romance then i got... plus 1 girl and about 4 guys falling for her, that i just super hate about manga or manhwa or whatever it is. 2 guys is understandable but 4 not so great.... plus the romance didn't happen so much as i wanted for which i picked this manga up 🙁
wish it wasn't so long dragging if the romance was crappy and making me feel depressed plus it was going round and round with the characters not being able to choose music or something else and only fighting with the choices so very annoying they would make up there minds then give up really was boring i had to skip some pages as i got board i didn't like some of the extra / stories 1-2 were ok but most were just boring

[spoiler]Kahako never confessed until the end only hugged so did Ren all the way to the last volume chapter and last page ending the story no side story to show later a bit romantic moments with these two!

the others Ryoutaro confessed but was rejected, HIhara never even confessed with the ending not sure if he gave up so its too bad im not sure if this long dragging manga was even worth reading it, and KajI poor guy love at first sight yet also never confessed another thing annoying though in a way these 2 would have added more problem for Hino

at first i wanted Hino to be with HIhara but then i started to feel she would end up being with Len/Ren not sure why but i wish the romance had hit up high maybe there feelings would have made them perform better music after all they say when in love people can create great music or something of that[/spolier]

Sweet and refreshing but drawn-out

I think the premise of Kiniro no Corda is awesome. The central theme of musical instruments was interesting and although the heroine was quite generic (which is the case with a lot of reverse harem manga) I think she was admirable with her determination.

The concours present in the first arc were particularly enjoyable to read about, but like some other commenters have pointed out, the manga unfortunately starts to degenerate afterwards; it regresses into something worse, turning into standard shoujo cliches and fluff.

My only criticisms include the ridiculous length (it is so drawn out) and the concept of reverse harem manga in general (I feel terrible for the other guys, particularly Kazuki Hihara - who is so cute :3)

Reading the first arc and skipping to the last few chapters to read the ending still gave me a pleasant reading experience (didn't want to waste my time on reading about pointless shoujo fluff, so if you're not into that thing either just read the beginning 20 chapters or so and the end; it's still good and you really don't miss out on much tbh).

Okay done all 75 awesome chapters. 😀

Negatives:

Aoi: I don't think it was necessary to add him into the story. He ended up being a duplicate of Kazuki: Both guys loved/liked Hino but didn't tell her their feelings. Aoi's super handsome, but I still don't think it was necessary.
Shoko: We see nothing new about her. I know it's harem, but why introduce her and not give her a plot at all! I'm biased because I'm a clarinetist as well. ;D
Len: Don't get me wrong because I love his character. What I don't like is the development between Hino and him. It's weird because it starts very later in the story. Feels a bit odd and awkward when it happened. I know it's harem but still.
Missing Plot: Sometimes the story gets choppy or rushed. Like, there are some missing scenes I would liked to see. I can't think of any examples but you get what I mean, right?

Positives:

Wonderfully portrayed music manga: It was IMO, one of the best music manga I've read. I love classical music, even before I read this manga.
Inspiration: I'm a musician even before I read this but now I'm even more inspired by Len and the others. I want to practice WAY more than I already do. I already practice 2 hours on school days, 1 hour in weekends.
Piece choice: The songs they used for this series are awesome. I'm going to duet Clarinet Polka with a friend (We both play Clarinet) and I'm going to play a solo: Jupiter on Trombone. I might even take other songs from this series because I just love them so much.
ART: Yes. Great art. Sometimes characters do look a bit similar to each other. But never the less, it's amazing. It was my ideal art to see in manga. 🙂 The anime ruins it though, in my opinion. ._.
Harem: I usually dislike any kind of harem manga which includes Ouran, Clannad, and others. This is the exception. Usually harems I see, they like the girl/guy for no apparent reason. In this series, there is actually progress and evidence why the guys like Hino.
Friendship: Not only is this a wonderful romance series, it also displays friendship between opposite genders. And Nami and Shoko.
I want to write more but I'm tired LOL

My judgement was clouded by all the bishounens. One of the biggest problems was that there were random characters popping by! Not much character development. I really did wish Hino improved a little more. What really annoyed me was that she let her emotions get the better of her sometimes. Not bad but not good. Like the others said, it really did have potential at first. Really inspired me and learning a classical instrument actually crossed my mind!
But regarding to the characters..meh. I would have also liked Ryoutaro x Kahoko because throughout the story, you can see how much he cares for her and same goes for Kazuki.

At first, I watched the anime. Because it's a music story and all, I thought it'd be more interesting with sound when you could actually hear the pieces they were playing. Although that does add a good effect, the manga was just so much better. Kahoko seemed weak, annoying, and fake in the anime (maybe I'm going a bit overboard...). In the manga, she seemed more genuine and not so much of that innocent type of girl anime brings out sometimes (Does anyone know what I mean? That high-pitched voice that screams goody-two-shoes?). Plus, all the vibrant colors kinda turned me off sometimes. I don't know what it's like in the game though, so maybe it's just my preference for manga. Plus Kazuki and Ryotaro weren't dark-skinned. It's not that I mind dark skin, it's just that they looked ridiculous with that bright green hair too. The colored manga pages seems to have all the hair colors toned down a bit.

What I'm trying to say is: don't watch the anime. Read the manga. Because it's good.

This is probably the only reverse-harem type that I'll approve of. They all actually have a reason to like Kahoko, and it doesn't feel as forced as it does in other reverse-harems where there's this girl that's incredible and everyone just falls for her. Kahoko's not perfect, so the boys have to connect with her on a deeper level.

It has a nice and interesting plot and also very inspiring for someone like me who doesn't play instruments.. you somehow get the feeling of wanting to play something while reading this.. it was a refreshing feeling..

I've been eyeing this series for a long time now but it's actually just now that I'd finally decided to give it a try..

It was a nice read though it's lacking on some aspects.. I'm somehow disappointed that Hino didn't improve much at all since when the magic violin disappeared.. I'm always anticipating her performances after that because I'm expecting her to at least wow the audience even just for once especially at the mini concour...the hard work was there and it's always been emphasized how she loves music and violin so much... even in her very last performance with Ousaki, Kaji and Shimizu I still hoped that she'll surprise us but nah she still made a mistake and still very stiff..still the same I know there's no perfect performance at all but can't she play naturally?

Though I can say if you compare her to other shoujo heroines...she's very strong especially in emotional aspect..she's someone who doesn't cry easily.. Like in chapter where Len told her how disappointed he was.. while going through the pages I was already expecting her to cry but she didn't.. and I'm really glad she didn't at least even just at that time she wowed me.

and in romance aspect it's complicated lol.. there are too many characters who showed up out of nowhere and before you knew it they're already gone.. It's way too random.. It's been showed how much Kazuki actually likes her but he didn't had the chance to confess.. I mean seriously what's the point? and there is also this Aoi Kaji who had a crush on her...he likes her too but didn't confess as well.. and with Kiriya Etou..I don't get it why did he even showed up?

I would even prefer Kazuki and Ryoutaro more than Len to be with Hino.. Len's feelings for Hino wasn't that clear until the last recent chapters... Yeah sometimes he's blushing and so on while with Hino in some chapters but for me that really wasn't enough to tell that he likes her just by that.. you can't feel anything.. though he did admit that if his feelings were to conveyed in words it's "love" but still at the very end he didn't confess properly (still stubborn as ever) though I guess it's fine because it's soo just like him..but why is Hino stubborn too lol..or was she just being naive? T.T I've never seen her admit her feelings towards him..I know it's already so obvious that she likes him but is it that hard to say "I like you" or "I like Len" or maybe because I wasn't paying attention that I missed that part...whatever I guess the main reason I feel like this is because the development between Hino and Len wasn't enough..I feel like their relationship could have been better... that their encounters should have been more...but oh well regardless of everything that hug at the end was very sweet!

I think because there are too many characters involved the author somehow had a hard time balancing them all out..

overall this is still worth a read...I guess the message that the author was trying to convey was that it's not really important whether you're good or not when it comes to music as long as you love and enjoy it that's more than enough..

Had Potential

The beginning areas of the manga, specifically the first concour, had a lot of potential. It focused on music, the feelings, but mostly the love for music. After that, the manga slowly degraded to stupid, irritating, and needless drama and cliches. I was hoping to see the growth of Hino with her violin. All I saw was very little character development overall, needless introduction to new character(s) who were soon left in the shadows and forgotten, and a ton of cliche scenes. The ending felt... rushed and uninspired. I think the beginning was great, but after that... I wish I never read this after seeing what it degenerated into. What a waste.

Although I have seen the 25 episode anime for this manga, I admit I have not read the manga itself in its entirety. Nonetheless, one of the biggest problems I had with this manga was that its main focus seemed to be promoting the videogames and the respective unique storylines with each of the instrumentalists.

I finished this manga--as it was completed in May of this year--and loved it. At least she ended up with someone in spite of her endearing naivete. The romantic development was commendable. All in all, highly recommended--the focus on the musical aspect was inspiring, but the central harem plot was annoying at times...obviously I'm not a fan of harem.

One of the best mangas i've read and also one of the best animes i've watched. it really developed my interest in classial music and the romantic sub-plot was great as well, it ended.. not quite how i wanted it but with the right person, in my opinion definitely worth reading even if music is not an interest of yours xx
