Description
In the midst of a violent invasion of Earth by unknown alien forces, photojournalist Wakatsuki Tetsuya comes across a scantily-clad alien woman, cutting a swath of death through the Terran ranks with her sword. After a chaotic struggle, Tetsuya is knocked unconscious, only to awaken aboard her starship. To his surprise, she turns out to be Kahm, the invaders' princess - and she has picked Tetsuya for a starring role in her upcoming wedding, as the groom.

A fun, ecchi space opera

The art style is very old school, and reminds me of Takahashi Rumiko somewhat. Expect lots of overly exaggerated expressions and some super deformation. The style is consistent with the atmosphere of the manga, and never seems too far out of place.

The characters are mostly stereotypical, but all primary characters have some depth. Designs for the main characters are good, and it's easy to find one or two favorites among the bunch. I mostly like Kahm, but all of them are enjoyable in their own ways. Some of the tertiary characters are so generic, you'll quickly forget them or confuse them.

The story is not terribly original. Aliens invade Earth, boy meets alien princess, fights for his life and survives, the two fall madly in love, and everyone in the galaxy tries to split them apart. There are lots of touching moments, and times of crisis to test their resolve.

The plot is decent, and evolves quickly to match the action. As our heroes struggle to stay together, they must overcome conspiracies which have been in place for thousands of years. There are a few dark secrets to be uncovered, but nothing too heavy to ponder about, and everything is fully revealed by the end of the story.

Overall, a fun, ecchi space opera, with lots of action, romance, and a touch of drama. Recommended reading.

A good old-fashioned rip-roaring space opera: aliens invading Earth, epic space battles, duels to the death, romance, narrow escapes, moments of wacky comedy and of tear-jerking sadness, all building up to the ultimate confrontation between two factions whose feud predates the dawn of human civilization.

Compared to the anime, this isn't nearly as light-hearted in tone. The manga does have its share of wackiness, especially in the earlier parts of the story, but overall the manga is a lot deeper and more serious than the anime, and the plot is a lot more complex and detailed than the anime.

this is one of those manga that can be funny, serious, and crazy at times smile theres a good amount of romance and action in this anime which makes it even better smile this is my idea of a great manga 10/10 smile

good length (coulda been 9 volumes, but 8 is still good) and great endings (plural cause there is an epilogue, which is GREAT)

One of my favorites smile READ THIS

Ok so it is dark and ecchi.... but the mangaka does such a great job weiving in romance and action that the story just becomes so fun to read.

It does have a lot of dark humor in it and it can get rough around the edges at times, but you always know whats going on and why this or that is happening cause of the amazing story telling skills that are used.

If your looking for romance that is heart warming but does not kill the story or slow it down then look no further. This story is worth your time. But be warned that you may be shocked with the ending...

I love this story, becuase it is pretty much unpredictable (but the plotline is NOT ridiculous) and i would recomend it to any fan of romantic comedy manga

Strangely good

Picked up on this manga randomly and found it to be pretty good if unorthodox.

Old school sci-fi epic with a lot of dark humour and quite a bit of violence and other mature themes in contrast to advertising. The art style is a lot like takahashi rumiko and with all the slapstick comedy from her manga, but a lot darker.

The story itself is pretty good. Boy meets alien girl, falls in love, gets involved in galactical conflict, fights for girl, etc. Despite the seemingly innocent at first, it quickly becomes a action seinen with some tragedy. The author doesn't shy away from killing his characters, who are all well developed enough for their deaths to have an impact on you.

I also like the fact that there isn't any deus ex machina or any ridiculous plot twists. The character's actions and reactions to the various situations they encounter are realistic, which is rare in ecchi and it really allows you to relate to the main character.

All in all, a good manga if you want some weirdly funny space epic that somehow manages to be dark and tragic.

Epic

I think the style and the description will really fool people. This isn´t light hearted. Or it is and then its offset by some horrible tragedy happending. Half way through, it stops being as tragic though.

But the beginning to the middle, geeeeeez. Bug ships, blood, death, entire countries wiped out. Right after a certain world power gets completely annihilated, I´m not going to let this manga get me happy cause its just going to do another shoot the dog moment. And suffice it to say, it immediately did, but then it turned out alright and it has stay mostly upbeat since then.

I´m not faulting it though. This is an epic space story. I´m glad its the way it is. I thought it was going to be more cartoony because of the style but that was my fault for underrating it.

The only flaw might be the way the guy seems to get the girls interested in him. I didn´t really believe it. It´s an odd failing, since it comes off more believable in any other manga.

Nostalgic and better than I thought

I had this manga for ages, but at first I didn't really liked it so I put it in the back for later.
But yesterday it caught my attention, and since i was looking for some action/comedy with some romance in it i gave it another chance.

Since it 's quite an old manga the art is not so great (sg like Slayers or Urusei Yatsura), but after a while i started to like the old style characters, and found Kahn cute enough, though i liked Battia better.

The story is a good sci-fi one, with alien invasion, space battles and such. The characters are quite simple classic stereotypes, but at least there was no Angst and such. Besides some silliness they did what most of us would have done.
The comedy is nothing hilarious, but a good addition. The romance is not heartbreaking but funny with some ecchi.

The whole manga made me feel very nostalgic and films like Flash Gordon, Buck Rogers or the original Battlestar Galactica came in mind while reading the series.
