love is not just sugary perfection...

Spoilers in this post.

Spoiler (highlight to view)
Okay, I'm all for happy endings and stuff but I think some of you are taking this a bit too far. I mean out of all the comments I've read so far... it's prettimuch a general consensus that "the ending sucks!" or "what a disappointment, Yuu Watase!" or "don't read this because of the retarded ending!" I, however, disagree.

Just because it isn't a happy ending, or the ending that YOU want, that shouldn't discredit the fact that it was a good manga and that Yuu Watase is a good writer who really THINKS about her manga. It might not be the pretty ending that you want, but it's the ending the author wanted to depict and that should make you as readers think WHY.

Yes, Riiko and Night were in love, but Night was a figure - not human. Sure, Watase could have made it a sugary happy ending, but personally I feel like that would have made the manga less provocative. It would have been less believable, less moving, and less thought-compelling than her emotionally charged ending.

Think about it. Night is a figure - even Riiko truly realizes this in the end - which is why she has to move on. Night knows that he can't truly be human with Riiko forever either, because he will not age, cannot provide her with a family - cannot truly be her lover. He loves her but he can't provide her with a normal human love that he knows she deserves. Night severs all ties with Kronos Heaven so that he can be with Riiko, but he also knows that without their constant hardware updates and the like, he will die. Night knows that he can't give Riiko a normal human relationship because despite all his gallant efforts, he is still only a figure. So Night makes plans ahead of time to send a letter to Soushi when he dies, because he knows Riiko deserves a human love. Even if Night will one day wake up, Riiko cannot wait for him forever. Riiko says so herself that even if Night were to wake up someday she might be older or maybe even a grandma by then. It wouldn't work. Sometimes no matter how much people are in love, it just cant work out. Night was Riiko's first love but not her last love. Riiko's relationship with Night was a period in her life that made her finally understand love and grow as a person.

I think Yuu Watase's ending was the most reasonable conclusion to this manga. It doesn't spoil it's readers with "warm and pretty lies" that love is perfect - because it's not. Your first love may not be your last love. That's right people, love is not perfect and I think Watase did a beautiful job of depicting that with her bittersweet ending.

The beginning was very interesting, but the rest was just a bad case of a very very very indecisive girl. This manga is definitely NOT for older audiences or readers who have read better elsewhere.

I like the idea but the delivery could have been much better

The IDEA of this manga is 10/10. I liked the whole Kronos Company concept & I felt it had a lot of potential. I also liked how the mangaka explores Night's conflicting emotions as a 'figure' & his journey with himself in the human world. Night is definitely a precious character & his developed feelings throughout the manga is touching.

However overall, I feel the plot & some events were disappointing. Some parts were very predictable or 'cliche' & I wish there was more depth in the more emeotional scenes in order to leave a lasting impession. The humour could have been better & it would have been great to see more dimension & growth in the other characters too.

Overall, a nice manga to read when you are in the 'light & fluffy' mode for the idea & concept of what it might be like with a figure Zettai Kareshi.

Hot, perfect robot guy and unattractive, boorish female character fall in love. A highly improbable story with no character development. The story is sad and funny, but the romance irks me because it is completely unfounded and undeveloped. The ending is fairly predictable and failed to touch me emotionally.

The story is very entertaining and the premise is like every girl's dream, to have the perfect boyfriend. The art is lovely, and I enjoyed it thoroughly. One thing I will stress though: don't take it too seriously. The character of Night is so likable, that the ending was a huge disappointment. The other characters bland somewhat in comparison, including the lead girl, who is too naive and childish for my tastes. *****SPOILERS***** I'll try to keep it brief, but it's I think it's too bad really; there could have been a number of different ways to execute this story, without it having the outcome that it did, but to me it feels rather tragic and leaves one feeling unfulfilled in a way. This is because Riiko chose Night over Soshi, her neighbor - a perfectly kind and handsome HUMAN who happens to love her, and yet she still didn't end up with Night in the end anyway. It would have been better if Night had been able to become a human, in some magical Pinocchio way... then I would have given this a perfect rating. I mean, to go through ALL that, and yet - it all deflates like a balloon.
Still immensely delightful to read though, and I recommend it because there are a lot of nice moments in here.

Zettai Kareshi has no artistic value. It's completely cliches and female fantasies strung together with girly fanservice. And yet I absolutely loved it.

It really is all about indulging fantasies and providing an escape. And it's really good at it. There are all the staples of fantasies - stunning vistas, vacations, cute clothes, lots of subservient boyfriends. And it's all well-done. It's ridiculously girly and completely enjoyable. The art is great, too, with Riiko being really cute and the boys being gorgeous.

If you're the pretentious type - you know, you stick to stories that aren't shameless girl-pandering - I advise you stay away from Zettai Kareshi. There really isn't any substance here. But if you're just looking for a light, fun escape, this is a perfect choice.

The name of this manga attracted me and the premise kind of reminded me of Chobits. I was intrigued by the thought of that scenario from a female perspective, plus the naked character in the cover made me think, "hell yeah, Female POV Chobits plus sex, I'm in." Oh was I sorely mistaken.

Like many others on here I disliked the ending, but that's mostly because I read this stuff to get away from my miserable life and I try to live vicariously through these characters (and I'm sure to finally choose the love of your life only to lose him soon after must BLOOOOOW); so, yeah.

Even though I'm super emotional, I didn't find the ending as sad as I did annoying. I kinda felt like it was rushed, or that it happened too fast (or maybe it just felt that way since I just wanted to get to the end). The only part when I did cry was about the reference to Hachiko; now that's sad, lol. (Always makes me cry, just like Jurassic Bark T-T). The rest, not so much.

Like others I felt the story kind on dragged on a bit, some characters where underdeveloped and that Riiko was annoying at times (like her refusing to take advantage of Knight's "talents," I'd be all over that).

Speaking of which, I rushed through the whole thing specifically to get to the good bits, them f***ing. Boy was I unpleasantly surprised when I was presented with like 3 pages of implied sex and nothing more. I mad. Itís Twilight all over again, but thatís what I get for reading sh*t aimed at tweens and teens; I should stick to yaoi, or the very least josei and seinen.

In my and the mangaís defense I didnít know it was shojo or a tragedy, (things I probably should have looked up before I started reading, stupid me), so all these things that annoyed ME might be fine with others and they might get more out of it than I did.

Overall it was an entertaining read and I didnít dislike the ending, nonsensical situations and NO [explicit] SEX GODDOMOT, so much as to say I completely wasted my time.
