Under the command of their respective guild masters, these guilds are made up of witches and wizards who take on various job requests to earn fame and fortune. One particular guild stands high above the rest in both strength and spirit, and its name is Fairy Tail.

Simple fun series

Fairy Tail is a simple, silly, feel good manga that focuses more on the bonds of the characters and the adventure itself rather than the end goal, which is why, from my observation, it has gathered the ire of fans of other shonen manga fans. The fun of this series is that it doesn't take itself too seriously. The art direction is a little prettier when compared to its battle shonen peers of its time, and the action is eye-catching and very easy for the reader to follow and feel engaged in. The characters are fun and while some just exist in the background (which tends to happen when you build a 100+ character cast), the inner circle of main characters each had their own personality that could stand on its own.
While a lot of the critiques of this series I've seen over the years are valid, they come down to if you like simple, fun, lighthearted franchises. Where those critiques do lose me though is the comparison to One Piece. If I had to find something from before Fairy Tail's tenure to compare it to, it would be more akin to if you took the silly, non-serious fantasy action settings of Slayers or Those Who Hunt Elves; Fairy Tail borrows those themes, and then adapts them to the 2000's shonen battle formula (a la Bleach), instead of the episodic formula utilized by the two previously mentioned franchises.
My final verdict is I would recommend this one if you like goofy fantasy settings and aren't going into it expecting some grand, mind-bending narrative; after all, it's an action manga, not high literature.

A seven years of a great journey

I followed this manga since 2010 after seeing the 1st episode of its anime in the local TV channel and enjoyed it since then. I have read almost all Hiro Mashima's series and this one is my favorite (even compared to Rave). Even tho the ending was not satisfying after all the moments Lucy and Natsu shared, I still find it to be something good, It's just how Natsu is. I don't think Natsu doesn't understand Lucy's feeling.
Compared to those shounen romance that have many girls interested in the MC or annoying love triangle that gets in the way to enjoy the manga, this one easily becomes stand out and one of my favorites. I really enjoy how Hiro Mashima builds a romantic relationship between two characters (some couples in this manga included obviously). My complaint is too much ecchi moments after dragon arc. But overall, it was a seven years of a great journey.

I thought it was a bit slow pace for me. But the series was enjoyable none the less. The author stated a sequel is on the way and already shows a few of the childs that some of the characters have. But the story was fun. The characters were crazy and charming. Ending was a bit rush in my opinion but it was still fine.
What a terrible ending...

When I start reading this manga, I dont really like it, it is not bad by any mean just average but as time progress I have to say the quality in story telling and art keep getting better and better, and the closing arc really nail all the aspect, the battle is not that great but it was always ended before I get too bored. Props to MASHIMA Hiro this probably the best end I've seen mangaka do in shounen/adventure story. 10 for prrobably the best ending I've seen in shounen manga so far.

Slow pace but fun series. I think people are getting a little bit too harsh on the series itself when there's plenty of other serious that has just about the same pay saying or the same kind of chapters as this one has. So I don't think people should just brush it off something like that but I think it's okay.

I really used to like Fairy Tail when i was a kid, but now, when i read it...i see nothing more than a childish, boring, and nonsense product. That's it, a product for young boys and girls (especially for this one) with a lot of forced fancervice and cheap drama.
The battle are, by far, the most ridiculous i've ever seen: power up + nakama power EVERY fucking time and victory for Fairy Tail.
This manga is pissing me off, i'm sad to think Mashina gives to the fans what they want just to make money and don't care to give us a real story to enjoy.

How to drop a manga after 510 chapters... Or should I said "How to beat Bleach's bad ending?"

510 chapters for that?
You call this your best work?
You did it, you destroyed your series, just because of $$$, we get a forced continued plot and non sense fan service.
Rave was better than that, I can't read anymore...
I gonna wait and skip for the final chapter, when finally come if you let the story ends someday...
*Edit*
Finally ended.
However...
"Please $uport Hiro Mashima in futures projects?"
No, please pick all the money you got(if are not for money, you are nuts) and go play Monster Hunter for the rest of your life.

What the hell of ending is that?!
We got no couples, no deads and everthings looks like before the "plot"?
I tried to read the gap between 510 and 545, but that not helped, was more and more nonsense.
Rave was better.
Bleach's ending was better than that.
Zeref, I understand you now, please come back and reset this world.

wrong pentagram for air in anime

Did anyone notice that Levy used the pentagram for earth instead of air, when invoking magical air for Gajeel in episode 80? Also, it was a banishing pentagram instead of invoking pentagram. They should have shown an invoking air pentagram or banished the water.
That is such an easy thing to look up if you don't know what you're doing and so many people understand these things. What were the animators thinking?
