Strangely Charming, But A Poorly-Executed Second Plotline

- I really adored the premise. I know it's been used before, but when I first read it, it seemed so unique.
- Yeah, Tsubaki could be annoying, but she was actually pretty mature and determined. I just wish the mangaka trusted her FMC enough to give her strong moments without relying on the love interest to save her so often.
- Love interest was cool, but actually showed his emotions! It's not too different, but it’s definitely not too cliche. I also love the gender-bend aspect.
- I know this was originally published in a magazine and that previous plots have to be mentioned to immerse the reader, but the repeated flashbacks in the beginning got on my nerves. Also, the watermarks by the scanlation group...
- Of course, the plot originally focused on one thing, and then completely diverged into another thing by bringing out this barely-hinted-at backstory. It bothered me how much the plot deteriorated because the mangaka couldn't execute her storytelling well.
- Art is actually quite beautiful.
- I don't know why, but there's this certain charm to this episodic series. I think it barely manages to avoid a couple of cliches, and I'm pretty sure the charm stems from the sweet romance between Tsubaki and Shin in each chapter. It's like that "inevitable love" feeling. It's probably the only thing that brought me back to reread it.
TL;DR: Breaks out of a couple of cliches, has a tolerable FMC and decent love interest, has pretty good character and romantic development, but manages to take a nosedive at the end. Great beginning and middle, god-awful second plotline. Therefore, 7/10.

Actually, i wanna leave comment about the story, but as for me, all of hibiki sensei works is totally incredible. Not cheesy, not usual lead characters from shoujos that sometimes really get my nerves. The last but not the least I loove hibiki sensei, she's one of my best favorite author that i came to liking after hikawa sensei. If you know kyoko hikawa sensei, her works is totally awesome also. Hibiki sensei, she just incredible, the story, the art, the relationhip between the leads, everything... 😍

In love with the art and the main character!! *-*

The main idea of the whole manga is sooooo wonderful! I'm in love with the main girl! She's strong-willed, lovely and independent!! That's difficult to find in most cliché shoujos. Besides, I loved the historical elements, such as showing us the habits, motto and the complexities of being a gueisha.
The only sad point is that from the last 2 volumes, the story starts to rush a lot. If the author had written them in more volumes, I think the story would be perfect! Too many things and turnovers happens at the same time, it's kind of strange to keep on and be actually moved with all that's happening.
But even though, I highly recommend it!!!
Everything is really beatiful! *__*

As you can tell by the raging previous comments, this series has been quite addictive to a lot of people. If you're my kind of shoujo manga lover, this is a must check out.
Thank you, Aerandria!! If you have a paypal account, consider donating a little to them!
Oiran Girl is a wonderfully sweet series that follows an ex-rich girl that had fallen to poverty by betrayal and arson and, parents dead, she lives her current life working to regain herself through a geisha house.
This series feeds my cravings to see independent strong-hearted girls struggle and succeed, and it also depicts classical japanese fashion. In terms of art, it's not Death Note level intricate, but it's about the level of Ouran Highschool Host Club which will do. Flat and Over simplified most of the time, but pretty when in can be.
The love interest, who cross-dresses, is her trainer, a rival, and a childhood ex-servant/new-friend, is everything I could hope to see in a shoujo manga love interest. He's almost too perfect and it hasn't been an issue.
The last two volumes were a little less exciting, the ending did not live up to the hype, but I finished it nonetheless and didn't regret starting it.

Feisty shoujo heroine x Cross-dressing cool servant. Also, it's the Edo period, so they're both courtesans. If you're really into master-servant relations and historical shoujo, this is a good pick. Otherwise, it's just your run-of-the-mill shoujo. On the up side, the protagonist isn't too off-putting, and it's pretty funny. On the down side, it throws realism out the window, the romance is pretty contrived, and it doesn't bring anything new to the table. From reading the summary, you'll know if you're going to like this.
Also, as others have said, the group scanslating this (not Aerandria) likes to slap a gigantic logo on every page (so much so that it obscures the art and some of the dialogue.

I love the story and the artwork but please don't cover every pages with the watermark sign. It is ruining the mangaka's work if we can't read or see the artwork. At least make it translucent so it would be easier to see. I agree with most of the reviewers here. Other than that I just love the storyline.

i gotta say. Doko Demo Doa Scans.. you've really outdone yourselves. You bother with scanlating manga for the public, which is nice, and very generous of you guys.. but in the end, you just cover 50% of every page with a HUGE, OPAQUE and completely in the way logo of your group. I mean, what's the point of even scanlating the manga if the watermark just blots out all your hard work? I know it's hard to keep people from stealing your hard work and claiming it for themselves and calling it their own work, but having at huge logo that covers up the entire manga isn't exactly fair play for the innocent masses.
Not a lot of people are privileged with being able to buy the manga locally, or possess the knowledge of knowing how to read manga raws and interpret them well enough to understand. So, when people find translated scans available online for reading, it overjoys them. Instead, you chose to drown their joy in disappointment since they'll never be able to enjoy the story fully from these ridiculously over-sized watermarks with their solid opacity.
I truly commend you and your group for even picking this story up to translate to everyone else for free, but really, tone down on the watermarks. Even if you don't want to downsize your logo, at the very least, tone down on the opacity. Please.
Doko Demo Doa Scans, If you've read this comment, please, tone down on those over-sized watermarks of yours. This will please everyone of us out there reading your works.
