The big boss only come in the last two chapter of the series, got very little screen and then a big END or FIN word, SARABA, ARIGATOU, etc. Just like some certain manga due to the writer knocking on the death door.

I might actually die of old age first before this wraps up. I stopped reading this around five years ago due to lack of scanlators. Picked it up again a week ago from the start, entertaining yes, but after going through the recent chapters still no progress.

Repetitive and frustrating

This manga has a pretty interesting story concept in the beginning; genius detective suddenly has to disappear and hide his identity all while trying to solve 3-chapter mysteries as well as an overarching mystery that spans the entire series. However, the 3-chapter mysteries quickly become boring and repetitive and turn out to be entirely filler. I got so sick of the murder mysteries that were happening OVER AND OVER that I had to look up the chapters with actual plot. Yes, I did skip a lot of the useless chapters because they're frankly, quite boring. Murder mystery after murder mystery after murder mystery... it just goes on and on. And there are many hundreds of these stories!

I personally am just reading it because I love a good secret identity story, and I'm so desperate for more secret identity stories that I've started reading this to satisfy my hunger. Otherwise, I'd have dropped this right away.

Overstayed its welcome

I started reading this series in 2001. It's been 16 years and there's still no end in sight.
Don't get me wrong, I think Case Closed is great, with one of the most solid, intriguing main plots out there in the detective genre. I don't think anyone can deny that Conan is a superbly smart series with lots of well-thought plot twists and characters.

However, by around volume 50 or so, the random cases (so-called "fillers") really got on my nerves. They dilute the main plot, and some fillers are just ridiculous. You can use simple common sense to figure that certain tricks and gimmicks are downright unperformable. Sad to say, but it is quite clear that Aoyama-sensei must be running out of ideas! And I'm really tired of the continual introductions of unknown, mysterious characters. Yes, I understand that they play a huge role in leading Conan to the Black Organisation, but come on - after like a dozen of them, isn't it time to unfold the Big Boss?

Lately, I don't even bother to read the cases. I just picked up the chapters that have something to do with the Black Organisation. Well, what can I say? I'm one of those fans that have grown frustrated.

All in all, I'd like to say: Read this series if you haven't. After all, it is like the biggest detective manga out there; and as I said above, the main plot surrounding the Black Organisation, the CIA, the FBI, the immortality pills, etc is fantastic. But if you are looking for something that is really focused on mystery and murder tricks, Kindaichi is probably a more fitting choice.

I really like this manga but it really need to start wraping up the story and move on with the plot. Seriously 88vol now lol. Yet it be sad to see if go when it ends at the same time. Maybe the author could just do a spin off series if wanted to do more stories.

If you are someone who has read a bit of this series and planning to read it just to pursue the mysterious people in black, then prepare to be disappointed. This is story of Conan (with a bit of Shinichi on it).

First of all, let me start by saying that this series is by no means a bad one. The art starts good, it remain so throughout any development of the author's way of drawing his characters. The characters are well depicted (and cool), though development is slow. The cases are always intriguing (although there are patterns that follows from one case to another), and actually it's fine to have many cases to solve, it's a detective story anyway.

The problem starts here. DC started with clash between the Black Org with the main character (which give birth to Conan character). While it's true that there is development on this plot, but it's going very very slow, so slow that it's unbearable (well I might have been carried away on this but it's the truth). It's like having hundreds cases in between Sherlock's fight against Moriarty.

I give it 8 for it's quality as a detective story, but plot-wise it's not that good.

sigh, this manga was good but really where is the progress? i mean, gosho sensei left a little bit hints (mysteries) here and there but there is no progress of the hints. actually i am okay if the manga is kinda like QED, it also didn't have any progress as far as i read and the mangaka don't give the reader any false hopes that there is actually other stories behind the case but this manga just let the readers hanging for so many chapters yet there is nothing new to add the excitement of reading new chapters.

Sell out? Excuse you! Is there a lot of filters in this series? Hell yes! Are all of them written and drawn by the author himself? Probably not, since there are a lot of filters. But sell out? First off, what is his relatio ship with the voice actress has anything to do with the continuation of the manga? They are both successful in whatever work that they are in. Ending conan wouldnt be such a big deal for any of them since the author is probably stinky rich and the voice actress is a popular singer and has other voice acting jobs. And on your point about nothing but fillers after volume 20.. Have you actually read the damn manga? There are amazing canon chapters after volumes 20 (and why volume 20, such a random number to pick)! And also with the recent developments that starting to tie up all loose ends, the manga is still going strong for both canon and non-canon chapters. Many fan read conan is bc of all of the random cases (they love the intricate plot line too). I am one of these fans. Doing what the fan love you to do is not selling out. Also if the mangaka wanted more money, he should really start producing more kaito kids, since there r hungry fans waiting for buy volumes and volumes of that series. Anyway, having a lot of GREAT, MIND BLOWING fillers is not selling out, and a lot of time, the fillers contain clues for the main plot that wont be reveal until later..

I've been following this manga for 6+ years already, and there has been no progression in terms of story. That's extremely frustrating for me! I can't read this anymore.

I think the author is honestly just looking at this series as a business. He wants to pull out as much wealth as he can by dragging this story past its long overdue ending.

How to sell out - The Manga

I started the anime in the early 00s when i was still a hungry teen. I liked it at first and why not? The arts was nice (but the newer artstyle is also very recommendable), the characters were fun and the cases were a who´s who of famous crime novels. That part is still good and a story was still to be found. I later switched to the manga due to my hatred of filler materiel but times moved on and the series now has 89 in canon volumes, 40+ out of canon volumes and many other spin-offs. There are also yearly movies, OVAs, games and... The cast even unsuccessfully met Lupin twice but i checked out years ago. Opening up a random release now and then didn´t help to get me back either. They are still crying over Cherry´s dead sister, who is the one dead character Most romances are still a bust and the age regression plot will never be resolved it seems. No one aged, graduated or changed in a meaningful way way so the whole manga has been a filler since the release of volume 20 or so. I wonder if any of the recurring cast members can even feel emotions anymore as they live in the House of a Thousand Corpses in regards to the death toll. The one redeeming feature thus still remains the underappreciated art.
Gosho had to come up with thousands of characters over the 22 years. A true marvel but i will admit that he uses the same body frames and face types over and over again. Especially the 4 (?) versions of Shinichi X Ran he has used in his 4 major works are the very same characters in body and personality but that is hardly the worst problem by now. I also noticed how clean cut the overall narrate is. A long running crime drama without teeth makes no sense to me and nothing objectionable happens (none are gay or morally grey for example) past the beheading in the first case but let´s stop. I will come back for the final volume and i won´t be surprised if it resolved nothing past the McGuffin-tastic age reversal arc and if the one dead character i previously mentioned showed up again. I also advice too google who the author married (and soon divorced). It´s Conan´s voice actress from Two-Mix. Crazy hm?
Everything i said about Conan also applies to it´s brother in arm´s Kindaichi Shounen no Jikenbo, which is even sexist on top, so deduct one point there.
Read these crime manga instead of dragging Conan along for another 2 decades, as it de-evolved into a money printing machine by now, or stop when you start to get bored: Billy Bat (10/10), Death Note (9,5/10), Master Keaton (8/10), Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro (8/10) and Monster (10/10).
