Why not?

I'm already on my end wits following the story. I can't remember the last time I read it, how far I've read it, what has happened. I understand Acradnxy's feeling that this is too far-fetched to the point that I myself don't need to remember the case-solving episode because that's not really the point. I often get damn annoyed when the crucial part starts. But on the one hand, why people are still hype about this is, childhood memories play a big role in it. The bias here is very strong, I can feel it. I'm one of them. It doesn't matter if the story is good or not anymore but people still enjoy the fun. The scans team will also not continue if they really like what they are doing. The feeling of people who have read it is not just "we have already done it so like it or not it must be finished".

I personally feel DC can't compare to Kindaichi and other detective series. They are too different, and although Kindaichi is more logical but that doesn't mean DC has low quality. I discovered today the fact that the DC timeline has only started 6 months after Shinichi's body shrunk. That's surprising lol but in retrospect it answers the reason why they didn't grow up. The drawback tho, too many people died in that time.

I don't want to defend the fact that DC has lost its charisma--if not for making the reader tired of waiting, not forget to mention the author is probably getting tired of making new characters so that similar faces with modifications will keep popping up--but, because of its similar episodic, I also don't have any unexpected disappointments. It's very solid, repetitive but guaranteed solid. Similar analysis, similar technique, similar case and scheme. No sudden dumb cringe-y shounen-level approach. Conan does his job, the people around him are suspicious and they go back and forth to help the case, like a continuous police procedure. That's it. I don't think it's a series I like to read on a weekly basis or sitting in one go, but it's perfect for filling my spare time.

I don't want to do a full review here because I totally forgot about it, but I still remember some pretty fun parts and personally it's a good memory. DC falls perfectly into a slice of life where you get to see the lives and personality of each characters. It makes the actual mystery side not as serious as one might think but it's not unreasonable either. I don't want to betray that feeling by criticizing this because deep down in my heart DC is special. I don't want to forbid other people to judge this bad because no one is forcing you to continue. I agree with everything that was said tho. There are so many things that make the reader lose interest.

If you ask me is this a recommended read? Yes, but I'm sure in this case you can get bored quickly so there's no need to rush through it because clues and key events don't happen in dozens of chapters. I didn't really look into it, if you're curious you can see any notes that have BO in them. It's everywhere on the internet. What I'm waiting for now is just, I hope the author doesn't mess up the arc until the climax. If it isn't made as exciting, satisfying as possible I'll be pissed lol. At least it's not wrapped up fast, but slowly getting there. It will be the most beautiful gift after a long wait not the other way around and bam, end.

Aoyama-sensei already stated that he will retire after this is done and he’s going to be old enough to retire soon. Also these few recent chapters are all focused on BO.

When I was a kid, I fell in love with this series. Everyone in my class was in Conan's Hype. Everybody talked about this series. Follow the manga and even the anime. But after YEARS without unending detective stuffs, we all grew tired and left this series. It was a pity for such a great beginning starts to drag A LOT. Years after I left this manga, I returned to check on it just to find out that it hasn't finished yet. The other manga that start around this series already finished and the mangaka already began to make a new series. But not with this mangaka. I feel like Aoyama-sensei only want to milk with this series.

The other detective manga such as: Kindaichi and Tantei Gakuen Q are better than Conan, but Conan still get the spot light more than those two. Conan indeed has great story (though more of the time is more like nonsense than logic), rather good style of art, but lack on character developments and most of the stories are only circling around the same thing. Kaito Kid is the one who is more famous than the other characters, so Aoyama-sensei started to milk him too. The trio kids who always with Conan are SUPER annoying, but Aoyama-Sensei never do anything about them. As I mentioned earlier, the story is SUPER dragging and circling around, I want to know Conan's adventure and how he can restore his normal life! Who are those two black suit men? This is the biggest mystery in this manga. But after more than 10 years, I don't see anything. Heck, they even make a new movie. I wish Aoyama-sensei will just end it manga soon. It was a great potential, but with 3 little brats and one stupid detective (Goro) the story looks like an irony comedy.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Goro always slept whenever Conan want to solve the case, yet nobody ever think about how odd it is?? Even though it's his "QUIRK", Goro should think odd for himself. I mean he can't recall anything after the case HE solved, doesn't it bother him?? Maybe he has some kind of incurable disease?? He should at least fear for himself, don't you think? And nobody try to look into Goro's behind to check on something? Or maybe some passer by unintentionally looked at him? This is why I said Conan is a no-brainer story

Conan has lost its charm long ago. I don't know why people still hype about this. Maybe because there's not much detective manga, so people still lingering unto this one. But for me, I'd rather wait for new Kindaichi than this. At least Kindaichi knows how to end it without dragging to long and the case is more mysterious, with good logic than Conan.

The big boss only come in the last two chapter of the series, got very little screen and then a big END or FIN word, SARABA, ARIGATOU, etc. Just like some certain manga due to the writer knocking on the death door.

I might actually die of old age first before this wraps up. I stopped reading this around five years ago due to lack of scanlators. Picked it up again a week ago from the start, entertaining yes, but after going through the recent chapters still no progress.

Repetitive and frustrating

This manga has a pretty interesting story concept in the beginning; genius detective suddenly has to disappear and hide his identity all while trying to solve 3-chapter mysteries as well as an overarching mystery that spans the entire series. However, the 3-chapter mysteries quickly become boring and repetitive and turn out to be entirely filler. I got so sick of the murder mysteries that were happening OVER AND OVER that I had to look up the chapters with actual plot. Yes, I did skip a lot of the useless chapters because they're frankly, quite boring. Murder mystery after murder mystery after murder mystery... it just goes on and on. And there are many hundreds of these stories!

I personally am just reading it because I love a good secret identity story, and I'm so desperate for more secret identity stories that I've started reading this to satisfy my hunger. Otherwise, I'd have dropped this right away.

Overstayed its welcome

I started reading this series in 2001. It's been 16 years and there's still no end in sight.
Don't get me wrong, I think Case Closed is great, with one of the most solid, intriguing main plots out there in the detective genre. I don't think anyone can deny that Conan is a superbly smart series with lots of well-thought plot twists and characters.

However, by around volume 50 or so, the random cases (so-called "fillers") really got on my nerves. They dilute the main plot, and some fillers are just ridiculous. You can use simple common sense to figure that certain tricks and gimmicks are downright unperformable. Sad to say, but it is quite clear that Aoyama-sensei must be running out of ideas! And I'm really tired of the continual introductions of unknown, mysterious characters. Yes, I understand that they play a huge role in leading Conan to the Black Organisation, but come on - after like a dozen of them, isn't it time to unfold the Big Boss?

Lately, I don't even bother to read the cases. I just picked up the chapters that have something to do with the Black Organisation. Well, what can I say? I'm one of those fans that have grown frustrated.

All in all, I'd like to say: Read this series if you haven't. After all, it is like the biggest detective manga out there; and as I said above, the main plot surrounding the Black Organisation, the CIA, the FBI, the immortality pills, etc is fantastic. But if you are looking for something that is really focused on mystery and murder tricks, Kindaichi is probably a more fitting choice.

I really like this manga but it really need to start wraping up the story and move on with the plot. Seriously 88vol now lol. Yet it be sad to see if go when it ends at the same time. Maybe the author could just do a spin off series if wanted to do more stories.

I can't see it('s) end

If you are someone who has read a bit of this series and planning to read it just to pursue the mysterious people in black, then prepare to be disappointed. This is story of Conan (with a bit of Shinichi on it).

First of all, let me start by saying that this series is by no means a bad one. The art starts good, it remain so throughout any development of the author's way of drawing his characters. The characters are well depicted (and cool), though development is slow. The cases are always intriguing (although there are patterns that follows from one case to another), and actually it's fine to have many cases to solve, it's a detective story anyway.

The problem starts here. DC started with clash between the Black Org with the main character (which give birth to Conan character). While it's true that there is development on this plot, but it's going very very slow, so slow that it's unbearable (well I might have been carried away on this but it's the truth). It's like having hundreds cases in between Sherlock's fight against Moriarty.

I give it 8 for it's quality as a detective story, but plot-wise it's not that good.

sigh, this manga was good but really where is the progress? i mean, gosho sensei left a little bit hints (mysteries) here and there but there is no progress of the hints. actually i am okay if the manga is kinda like QED, it also didn't have any progress as far as i read and the mangaka don't give the reader any false hopes that there is actually other stories behind the case but this manga just let the readers hanging for so many chapters yet there is nothing new to add the excitement of reading new chapters.
