Worthwhile read

Nowhere Boy was the first webtoon that I've ever read and after 8 long years, I've finally finished reading it! Since it's been almost a decade since I read the 1st episode, I decided to re-read the series from the beginning. If you would like to know how the webtoon ends and you aren't proficient in reading Korean, I recommend that you read the raws with Google Lens (translates photos).

Although I don't like this webtoon as much as I did as a teenager, I still enjoyed reading this series and think it's a worthwhile read for anyone who likes webtoons with great art, symbolism, and characters with a tragic and complex past. Nowhere Boy is not too heavy as there are plenty of jokes and antics.

This story hits very close to home as Hyun is someone who struggles with trauma and depression. I've read many webtoons, mangas and manhuas over the years (+400), and I can confidently say that Jung Pil Won is the best author that I know of when it comes to depicting the pain and struggles that come with experiencing trauma, abuse and depression.

So thank you Jung Pil Won for creating one of the best works of art that I've read. It's a shame that Line Webtoon never gave this series the translation and attention that it deserved.

I love this its quirky and becomes dark later on i think this is good if your a newcomer to manhwa the 12 apostles and their plans are hilarious and the way hyuns past is greatly shown, the format of the strip is brilliant placing from making it look animated if you scroll quickly in some sections the art style to me is breathtaking (when its serious) i love it great plot great humor and great art style it pasted my good anime/manga meter (i'm usually is super picky)

now this is something i must admit the art style is truly amazing... BUT IT SHOULD TAKE FREAKIN 3+ YEARS TO UPLOAD A NEW CHAPTER (chapter 29 where are you ;-; )

:r derp is out bye!

the mc is apparently the "unhappiest" person in the world, and god has deemed it so it must be true. if this mc is so unhappy he should jump off a roof instead of being a coward and wishing to destroy the world, or get this, he should just wish to be happy with his mother.

Ok it is pretty funny though, good art, the side characters are really funny and this mc is dull and stupid

Holy Crap

In the beginning, I thought this was going to be a gag manhwa more than anything else. I didn't take it very seriously, but it wasn't bad. It was just light-hearted. It wasn't deep, just a nice comedy manhwa. The gags, I believe, are pretty well done, so don't feel like you have to skip it. The gags are satirical. If you don't like that kind of humor, you might not like the beginning too much, but rest assured it changes.

After somewhere around chapter 10 or so, it's no longer what I thought it would be at all. It becomes dark and heavy. There is minimal gag and it becomes so intricate. It is breathetaking. It's no longer happy or light. I love it.

The art is stupendous. A lot of the scenes in flashbacks are conveyed through just the art. There is no dialogue. It becomes so much more than what it would have been through words. It makes you think about the story. You become unable to lightly skim over the pages. You have to examine each page to find out what is happening. For me, the story becomes so compelling I don't want to stop reading.

The only complaint I would have is how the pages are split up. If you have read other wedtoons then you know that each page is a long strip of print instead of individual pages. While scanlating scanlators will split up the pages into sections. I think this webtoon was very poorly sectioned. I suggest reading the long version to anyone that is thinking about reading this.

So Far So Good

The art is lovely and the story... oh my. It starts off as some surreal comedy then somewhere in the middle decides to go full steam ahead in another direction... and it works. I'm reserving final judgement for when this is completely translated but so far I'm loving it.

Funny, moving, absolutely BEAUTIFUL

Webtoonlive is full of beautiful manwa, and it's hard to say this when I'm so enraptured of a few of their other projects (Girls of the Wild's! Nineteen, Twentyone!), but "Nowhere Boy" is one of the most beautiful comics I've ever read. It far surpasses anything I've read recently. It benefits, of course, from being in a color medium, and the artist uses that to the full. Glorious bright color and deep shadows that easily pull you along with the mood of the comic.

Which is as diverse as the color spectrum. "Nowhere Boy" can be extremely funny. The Apostles are fantastic. But it's also a story about the unhappiest boy in the world (based on personal feeling, not circumstance), so there's an important and understandable darkness there. This could be hard to read, it could be terribly disjointed, but it's not. It's very well done.

And to wrap it up, we're looking at the end of the world. That's a big deal. And the artist does a fantastic job capturing the imagery with that idea. Every time he pans out to space or shows the Earth from afar I'm struck. It is so beautiful.

Well worth the read. Very much well worth the read.

Not bad at all

A strange webcomic that is mainly into the metafiction, the concept is interesting and if you can keep up with the jokes, it's a great read. The only default is the fact that the chapters are somehow confusing, ranging from humouristic tones to serious matters in a way that sometimes leaves the reader confused. A minor default in comparison with the great content of the overall story.

Quirky in a good way

Well, it's really quite something. It's hilarious in so many oddball ways-- the author is literally a part of the story (in a way) and breaks the 4th wall repeatedly, there are so many crossovers to other webcomics and characters that are obviously puns of other Japanese series/cliches, and the humor in general is just rofl funny. The way God grants wishes on a whim and texts lols and doesn't seem to know much of anything is a little strange but it's more like the "god" in this story is the author/artist of the webcomic (or something?), so it works and it is kind of funny. As for the plot itself, it's got quirky amusement and cleverness but doesn't go over the top or get annoying. It also becomes surprisingly chilling at some parts and you wonder exactly what is going on with this bishie kid who wants the world destroyed? And as for the art, it's quality and perfectly suited to the style and humor as well as seriousness of the story.

the gag can be a little hard to get sometimes but it's still funny and actually has an interesting plot. the art is great too. my only complaint is that webtoon chapters are only like a fifth as long as an average manga chapter so you have to be really patient.

update: it's gotten kind of confusing, the story's been muddled up a bit, but it also has to do with how the chapters seem choppy and don't transgress well. that being said, the art's still amazing (i like how all the color is used, dark at times and almost overwhelmingly colorful at other times, depending on the point in the story) and the overall theme and story is still very interesting to me even if it could've been executed a little better

with the God in this manhwa. It is just so cool; the first chapter gave me an asthma attack it was this funny. And going back to the God, he is surprisingly up to date with technology. I can't really tell you how good it is since only few chapters were released, but man, everyone has to read it if it continues like this. The art is crisp and really pretty for a manhwa and I already love the characters. Basically this story is one of a kind and a must on the reading list.
