Description
To the eyes of high school student Chiyo Sakura, classmate Umetarou Nozaki--brawny of build and brusque of tongue--is a dreamboat! When Chiyo finally works up the courage to tell Nozaki how she feels about him, she knows rejection is on the table...but getting recruited as a manga-ka's assistant?! Never in a million years!

But for someone who makes a living drawing sweet girly romances, Nozaki-kun is a little slow on the uptake when it comes to matters of the heart in reality. And so Chiyo's daily life of manga making and heartache begins!

It is a hilarious manga.
Don't read this if you want development and romance!
Do read this if you like status quo, gag, absurd comedy, it was the best manga ever

Extremely funny manga but with little development

This is a very funny read with great and engaging characters. It settles around a shoujo mangaka (while the manga itself is categorized as shounen) and the themes of romance, often being a parody of what you could call a generic romance shoujo. The jokes are really well played out and the whole manga could be said to be a reference to those shoujos, up to the drawing style which is also very shoujo-esque.

Definitively one of the funniest mangas I've read, but it severely lacks development after almost fifteen tomes. It doesn't get old at all but it is a bit frustrating to read it for so long without any progress in any of the relationships, the main one being seemingly the most forgotten as the story is more often than not about the side characters. I don't know if I'd categorize it as a flaw, but it can be when you're reading it with the expectations of having a romance. The romance's main purpose is for comedy.

Personally, I have never enjoyed a certain genre of romance/slice of life mix, where the idea is to have no progression at all and continuously bait the reader into thinking there will be, but only to show the interactions between the pre-couples. I wouldn't classify this manga amongst them however since it's definitively a comedy before being anything else, and it's extremely funny, meaning it succeeded at its job. Therefore, whether there is any development in the story or not, is secondary.

Great Gag Manga
by MaruNeko

Great gag manga with absolutely no romantic progression (~127 chapters in). It pokes fun at the shoujo genre. However, I get the male characters easily mixed up and sometimes it feels like stuff happens with no real lead-in or follow-up. I recommend this for anyone who likes gag 4-koma, but I like mine with more plot.

I've been following this mangaka for almost a decade now (since Oresama Teacher) and she remains one of my best discoveries ever. I just love her style so much, her art is honestly very pretty and her wacky, self-aware sense of humour is outrageously hilarious. I'm really glad she blew up with this manga, I mean it was about time, but still. Be prepared for tears to come because you'll definitely laugh till you cry when you read it haha.

A wacky, lovable, parody of shoujo comedy

I don't like many 4koma, or at least I don't like them for long, but Nozaki-kun is a rare exception. Do you like to ship characters? This series encourages that, and is funny all the while. The anime series was amazing, but the manga is definitely good too. I reviewed the manga at length, but simply put: lots of fun and endearing characters, lots of laughs, tanuki.

I've never read any manga in 4-koma format until this one. It felt odd at first but I got used to it fast. It's a very funny series to read. I didn't think it was great immediately but it got a lot better after a few chapters. I love how random and unique the characters are. Also since I've never read any other manga about working as a mangaka, I find this serious is very interesting and informative.

I watched the anime first, and I really enjoyed it, but when I found out it was adapted from a manga, I had to read it!! I LOVE IT!!! This is probably my first ever manga that I genuinely enjoy from beginning to present. The characters all have a unique charm to them and there are parts when they break society's norms! Sakura is just the cutest thing and Yuu Kashima is so gorgeous. Definitely give this a try if you're into comedy with a touch of romance on the side.....eventually.

4-koma unlike any other. It uses larger panels than typical 4-komas which allows for better art. The comedy is unique in the sense that it doesn't rely on repetition or perverted jokes, instead using genuine humour with some truly likable characters.

I first saw the promo for the anime and avoided this series b/c it sounded like a RomCom. But, thanks to random tumblr photoset posts, I got interested in one of the characters (the "Prince"), and decided to try the anime out. Great choice. I couldn't stop laughing at so many parts.

The manga is just as good (though the translations in earlier chapters are a bit off?). Most of the characters are refreshing and likable. The series does not have a reverse harem. In fact, what little romance there is in the series has almost zero development. The whole series is lighthearted and hilarious. Usually, I would be bored by the 4 koma style, jokes, and the lack of plot volumes later, but surprisingly, I managed to catch up on the latest chapter.
