I forced myself through the first 3 of 5 stories.

The can be really amateur & generic at times, with various perspective & symmetry problems with the faces. Bodies & clothing are strong points, the heads are weak points, & the background art is pretty much limited to necessary props.

The way the first story was predictable from beginning to end. Yakuza romances don't seem to work well as short stories & really do need to be dragged out to at least one full volume. The art is really early 90s looking here compared to the other stories.

The second story had a familiar premise with a plot twist I didn't see coming, so I'll give credit where it's due. It beat chapter 1 of Killing Stalking to that punchline by a good 10 years.

3ed story has a familiar relationship dynamic of an artist seme with artist's block & the dense uke who feels like a disposable object with a use limit & thinks that the relationship is one-sided on his end despite all the sex he's having. but I can say in 20+ years of reading manga that I've only come across 1 other BL story about a potter.

The endings of the stories are saccharine to the point of being cringy. Like it could be a perfectly okay story & then the ending will ruin the whole thing for me each time. I feel kinda bad about it, since it's apparently Matsuo Maasu's only manga.

i agree with MightyMaeve. I really enjoyed the ideas behind the stories themselves. for example the lover in the second story that killed a man who tried to interfere. i love violence and cruelness in my yaoi and these stories had great potential to be very interesting. but like MightyMaeve said, they fell flat.

also, like equilibrium had said, the art was lacking. by a lot. i normally wouldn't give this kind of art a second glance, perspective is very crucial to me and if any manga lacks it, then i refuse to read it. in fact, to be honest, i mostly skimmed through half the text in the story

to add to what MangoLuve mentioned, i hate when a lovely cruel story suddenly becomes a cheese fest of love proclamation. i am even fine, actually encourage it, if in the end of a story, one doesn't confess their love. just so the harsh treatment will last.

The first chapter i felt was really good to start off with...then in the last 4 pages it got SO INCREDIBLY CHEESY that it ruined the whole mood!

Seriously, i preffered the violenc that the tory had started off with.

The first and second stories are lacking. The art perspective is off in some frames, and not in a way that I think the artist was purposely trying to 'create' a feeling. 'Off' in a needs-more-practice way. The stories are one-dimentional.
The third story of the potter had excellent symbolism. The art was marginally better. It hit a brief note with me because of the improved story line and relationship.
The fourth and fifth story had characters that could have been people I cared about it. They still felt a little flat. The conflict was there, and the angst was there. It touched a note briefly as well.
Not good yaoi, but not horrible yaoi either.

Hard yaoi should be left to those who can do better art. The stories are very stereotypical and the plots are the same amone many out there. Plus the art does no justice.
