Description
With her parents dead or missing, Azuma has been taken into her uncle's family. However her new family has been harshly abusing her, to the point she has become so mentally unstable she developed the rare syndrome of Alice in Mirrorland, which makes her see things that shouldn't be there reflected on mirrors, water, glass, etc.
Everything begins when the things she sees start affecting the real world directly, and the barrier between reality and illusion breaks apart.
Welcome to the world at the other side of the mirror. Welcome to wonderland.

A fantastic start with a likeable cast of characters and an interesting setting. Still, later arcs became dull. But that doesn't make it seem any less interesting.
I like Okabe's dark humour. Lol.

I get bored because its just repititive killing with no interesting characters. Apparently 10 years ago I put it at 9 but as I reread it, everything just fell flat. I guess I grew out of this phase.

this is one of the manga i have read with most HYPE and EPIC moment, like really. The art style is not that good but it become AMAZING when neccesary, and the main villain is really AWESOME, (he has a true dark personality, absolutely evil) for me he's one of the best villain in manga.
so, yeah i recommend you to read it, you won't regret doing that.
This is a shounen?? wait, what... lol no, i won't say that this is.

Really dark manga cant believe this was shounen. What make this manga great is the MC itself, if the MC change slightly this will became shitty manga. Unlike other shounen manga where the MC is wimpy kid with a LOT of excuse, Azuma(MC) was having really bad family but when the windows opened up to let her change it, she will not hesitate to take it, and that's what make this manga great, no more boring generic talk where all side character trying to persuade MC.
Read if you like bokurano.

I already know that Azuma mother probably just another asshole, its pretty apparent after all it is the mother who abandoned her own child, I just hope the author able to close it better maybe introduce her mother earlier so she can get killed or at least get a punch in the face. A good manga too bad the closing is a bit weak.
Read if you like bokurano.

It gets REALLY dark very fast, but it is part of its charm, I always complain about how hard topics are never displayed in comics, but this feel pretty well rounded. It is innocent and mature at the same time, too realistic at a times and yet very fantasy-like. Great, original combination.

What I usually dislike about dark plots with villainous protagonists is that, in the ones I've read, they usually turn a 180. They regret what they've done or were planning, they start being 'good', they want peace, etc.
In Sekai Oni you have Azuma, a girl who is abused by her new family, who then developed a disorder called Alice in Mirrorland syndrome. I'll try not to spoil anything but Azuma does heroic deeds for non heroic reasons, this might be familiar to some people but the thing is she's been consistent so far.
She's twisted to the point that when she realizes what happens, which shakes the other characters wills, she finally smiles and is immeasurably happy. It's not like she's gone insane or is only pretending to be happy, Azuma is genuinely pleased with the outcome.

Dark Fantasy with mediocre art

I cannot stop reading this manga. It's brutal. It's thought-provoking. It's depressing. It's fascinating. It's disgusting. It's enthralling.
Almost never before has such a complex wave of emotions compelled me to read a manga before, no matter how appalled I may be at a time.
Still... the art, most of the time, ranges from mediocre to suck-ass. Sometimes the author has a Junji Ito moment, but that's rare, although the art improves over time. The symbolism ranges from extremely interesting (the whole Alice in Wonderland thing is done exceedingly well) to bang-over-the-head subtle (a man who's an awful person has a penis on his head).
Give it a chance. You'll be hooked.

Half-way reading this comic made me think. How does this thing even get published?
Not that the story is bad, it's good enough to get me hooked. I just found myself wondering a lot when reading this.
The art style is pretty sketchy at first, but improve drastically later on. Recommended for those who like unusual, twisted story manga and has strong stomach.

I agree with namu76, this is similar to bokurano in the 'fight and there will be a sacrifice' concept- but I find this more engaging, especially on an emotional level. The characters are warped and damaged: it's sickening but morbidly fascinating. They get their own backstories and I feel like I can understand them and connect to them despite how grotesque everything is. I really feel for Azuma, but there's a slight strand of hope for them alll- this is where the mangaka shines. He creates sympathetic but human characters and puts them in creative and absolutely awful conditions-- but he does it in such an amazingly thoughtful and profound manner. It's not gore for the sake of gore. Or tragedy for the sake of tragedy... The mangaka is well aware of the plot themes and tropes- and he actively subverts or deconstructs them. There's a logical precision to this story, the mysteries are unfolding gradually: it's tightly plotted with a controlled pace.
Disturbing and entrancing. A definite 10/10.
-also thanks for the fast scanlations tsuki to chikyuu
