Expectation

With a great handicapp this author has a 46 volume ongoing manga, that demonstrates how cappable the author is, amazing skills as a serialized mangaka. The handicapp is obviously the main topic of this manga "curry" ¿how can you make 46 volumes with such a narrow topic? Seriously, i'm looking forward for a good action/romance shounen from this author, cause he can make it big.

Now about the manga itself. The handicapp it's still too big which leads to silly situations, obviously there's a lot of flaws, i like it but can't rate it too high. This is seinene/slice of life?... i don't know, there's a lot of cooking battles where the bet is they're pride... , that's shounen. On the other hand there's a struggle to support the bussines and and a romance with age gap which obviously it's the seinen/slice of life. I think it's better not mixing seinen/shounen cause you always get bizarre results, some weird feelings when reading this.
About the comedy, it's good, but i can't compare it to GTO, not a chance. I never got to laugh off noisly with this manga, not even close to Onizuka. Amusing, but not hilarious
In chapter 66 the drama explodes, the episodic semishounen cooking-battle arcs come to an end, the romance, the past , the meaning behind the characters(obviously something more important than curry), everything gets better, so you need to be patient. It's a very long manga so i guess it change a lot till the the last releases.

WIth all that said i'd like to emphasize how serious expectations i have with Funatsu Kazuki sensei in future porojects.

good cooking manga, with some ero ingredients

For short, this manga can be divided into 3 parts: the Tokyo arc running in first 10 vols, then the Osaka arc (I guess) running in another 10 vols, and after that it has been the edible fighting tournament. It got repetitive, of course, but the minor situations involving ero jokes were still well thought of biggrin that made you laugh.

at current... 43 volumes??

I'm really not sure about the sustainability of this story for 43 volumes... but up to vol 9, it's been okay. Makito is a good guy, if a pervert, and basically I'm waiting for the storyline to end with happily ever after, which, I'm guessing from the number of volumes, is going to take awhile. The concept of using Curry at every emotional moment, every meal, and every 'battle' is interesting, but exhausting, so, again, I wonder if this is going to be worth 43 volumes of my time?

like others said, this manga is really worth reading, and indeed it is a pity that the translators don't work on this project anymore, or they are really slow updating it. i wish to read more.
just warn you, before reading, make sure eat some curry^^

It's a pity the new translators don't translate the recipes anymore. I've tried a couple of them and they were mostly excellent and quite easy to make. Apart from that, this is a funny manga that is well worth reading.

This series is definitely worth a read. I put off reading it thinking it would just be like yakitake japan all over again. The characters in this manga seem to have something deeper the are serious and quite often funny parts that just blend perfectly together. I would definitely recommend this manga to anyone looking for one to read. I just wish it would continue to be scanlated. =D

I love Curry!

lol there is an insane amount of curry info in this manga that I would imagine most of us never knew about! This manga is very well written as it keeps curry as it main focus which would seem terribly tacky and hard to do but it mixes together flawlessly creating a funny and intruging story with a hint of romance and ecchiness. I love the main character he is perverted but very diligent when it comes to cooking and anything related to it. The main female led brings a nice feminine touch to the story but my only gripe is I think she is a little too young to be a love interest.

I thought the art was very good, especially how he draws those curry dishes! I think the female led is pretty, but the other women are much more sexy. There are funny candid facial shots that will make you laugh, and the ecchi art is quite on the "hot" side so be prepared.

Overall, a great feel good comedy romance about curry! Yummy!

I love this series so much. It's like GTO w/curry -- funny, pervy, while *attempting* to teach some kind of a lesson (like being yourself..yadayada..) Totally makes you appreciate the art of cooking.
