From ShoujoMagic:
The two high school girls, Hanazono Mito and Tatsuda Seshiru, have been friends since kindergarten. But while Seshiru is an honour role student, Mito is constantly breaking school rules.

One day, Mito helps Seshiru evade the advances of the arrogant Ran, a rich boy and model who mistakes Mito's interference for jealousy (because of course every woman wants Ran for herself! Yeah, right). This lands Mito in hot water with Ran's fangirls, who later gang up to kick her ass! A new transfer student with wild hair is the one who saves her, but he won't tell Mito his name...!?

This manga started out progressing at a nice pace, but then seemed to speed up at the end (like they were trying to finish it within a certain amount of chapters). Don't go in expecting it to leave a mark and make it into your top ten. I'd say it's a decent, light shoujo/romance read.

This manga started out ok and then quickly spiraled into a random mess. The art's not bad, but it's still not enough to save it.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
The main character joins the kendo club... but I don't recall ever seeing her practice. Then she dislocates her shoulder or something and can't practice or compete in the competition that ends the series.

The love triangle is also poorly done... and the conclusion is very sudden (I suspect this series got canceled and this is the only way the author was able to finish it...).

If you had been expecting a female-fighter kinda manga like me, or at least some sparring sequence, this work is anything but. One miserly scene of a kendo match, no real action to speak of amidst more than a truck-load of empty verbal challenges and a really bland concoction of love rivalry.

Samurai Baby Review

My first manga ever. The reason why it has nostalgic feel about it. Also, the reason I gave it a 10 after my first time of reading it.
As I was looking over my 'complete list', I realized the manga I had given 10's in the last year were gold; only amazing manga. I then looked at the manga I had given 10's in my first year of reading manga. I came to the conclusion that I couldn't even remember specifically what happened in these manga and that the storylines just didn't sound that great...
After rereading it, I came to some conclusions:
- This manga is filled with shoujo-cliché. Like, seriously, there's just no end to it. It's almost shameless in its unoriginality. The boyfanclub-ganging-up-on-heroine, the popular-male-lead she falls in love with is way above her in the social 'pyramid' --> She falls in love with him first and is insecure about his feelings. He does confuse her from time to time though. *spoiler* And in the end, he does love her of course (often he even loved her all along). The twist with samurai baby compared to clicheed shoujo manga, though, is that the mangaka tried so hard to create an independent and strong heroine. This girl, Mito, is cute. I mean, she is no stable character, but she's funny. Who is Mito? I still don't know. If someone like her were to exist in real life, we'd send her to a special instution because there's just no stability in her character. Still, the mangaka did try hard to make her strong and I admire that. With a storyline like that it's close too impossible to achieve believability, but oh well. She did it. After reading the manga I have to admit to be somewhat satisfied with the main character. She wasn't completely oblivious to the truth, like normal shoujo girls, and she was able to stand her ground when needed.
- I kept reading. I don't know why, I just couldn't stop. I got addicted and finished the manga in one whole-night session. Shahizzl like that doesn't happen to me that often. I've reached that stage in which you've read such amazing and good manga that you compare everything you now read to just that perfect '10'.Close to nothing surprises me anymore. This manga did not surprise me in terms of being well-thought-out. I mean, I could predict close to everything that would happen. But the thing was that I was not able to predict what specifically would happen from beginning to end. As things continued, I was able to predict about 1 chapter in the future, but that was it. That was pretty rad.
- I gotta admit, there's something freaky about the art though. Maybe it was because me and Mary-Jane had a date, but seriously, this mangaka is crazy. The mangaka has a certain almost psycho view on reality and what is supposed to be 'cute'. I mean *spoiler in the side story, this girl cuts off her hair in front of the guy she likes to show her dedication of wanting to be the soccer club's manager confused ? And, here it comes, he acknowledges her dedication exactly through this act confused that shit craaaayyy...... As I highlighted earlier, We have institutions for people like that. Next to its freakiness, the art is not good, nor bad. The women are drawn worse, don't know why that is............
Anyways, next to that. I can already warn you, the ending is rushed/axed. You are left with lots of queziones. That's okay... No, seriously, don't read this manga. It will add nothing to your life.

5.5 for me. Just because there was continuity in my reading.

firstly the artwork is good. The manga had a chance to be very good but after chapter 3 something went very wrong. It's like a very badly put together story. The characters are likeable but l felt the story plots jumped from on place to another then back again. If not for the artwork l would have given it a lower rating....actually l feel l'm being pretty generous, a total waste of time apart from the artwork.

this was a nice manga story, but... it should've had more kendo stuff n practices... n da characters fell in2 love so easy... more like "like" than "love"... da only one that i can really say that is realistically "love" is da last extra story, a pretty nice story smile

yeah it was really fun and the story keeps going on on different ways I would not have expected, sometimes hilarous moments, I had fun reading this one, this is not an original shoujo but it has something different !^^ maybe it is the characters who are so lively and lovely bigrazz

surprisingly better than i thought it would be to be honest!

when i started reading it, the art was the only thing interested me, but the story caught my attention after a while too.

the only problem i had was that maybe if the manga had more length, the actual storyline wouldn't have been so sketchy. it seemed as if as soon as the plot thickened, the mangaka kind of dropped the idea and started a new one.

aside from the the story does a clear and cute ending! i recommend it to those who like short and simple school romance shoujo!

this was a pretty good read with likable characters and a readable plot. the supplamentary one shots at the end i could have done without because they kind of distracted me from my 'after the story' feelings, but what are you going to do? (not reading them is an option, but you don't even know it isn't connected to the story until you're kind of into it and then you want to see how it ends... downward spiral!!!!)
