From: Easy Going Scans

Yoshino Takigawa is visiting his friend's family grave. After getting there, he encounters Evangeline Yamato, a woman in search for his friend, Mahiro Fuwa, who left a month ago to find his family's killer without any clues to who it might be. Evangeline informs Yoshino that two places where Mahiro has been spotted have been quarantined, due to an epidemic.

When Evangeline is questioning Yoshino at gun-point, Mahiro comes out of nowhere and swiftly saves him and can stop bullets in mid-air, claiming to have a deal with a sorceress; not just any, but the strongest sorceress, Hakaze Kusaribe, who promised to help find his family's killer with her magic so he can kill the killer himself.

After saving Yoshino, Mahiro informs him about the epidemic, a curse that turns living things into metal, claiming the Kusaribe clan plans to revive the Tree of Zetsuen that could destroy the world.

I got breathless reading it.

I just read 13 chapters in one go for the first time. The plot-building was amazing, as should be expected of the writer of Vampire Juu... Ah, I'll look up the name later. Juuji...I wanna say kai but I think that's wrong.

Didn't get any sleep cause of this and a few other things so I'll review more coherently later.

I put off reading this for the longest time, mostly because the cover didn't draw me.

I was mistaken. So far, the characterization is pretty good, and the story is also enjoyable. The art, which I thought I wouldn't like at first, is actually pretty good and fits the story well. I'm hard pressed to find any faults with the story or the characters, but the series doesn't give me a feeling of "wow, I have to tell everyone about this."

It's not average, but not spectacular. Somewhere in between.

Great manga

It's always good not to see a weak protagonist that will be defended by the woman all the time. The protagonist in zetsuen can really act and think on his own and not just following other people's order.
At first it was confusing to me who was the main protagonist as both of them had a good reason to be the protagonist but later on I figure out (or decide it myself) that Yoshino would be suited to take the title of the main protagonist.
Either way this one is a recommended manga to those who like strategic mind and psychological thing
Hope there will be more translation release for this manga until it can catch up to the volumes in Japan.

Kinda Different

It's always interesting when your main protagonists are just a little bit off in the head and hard to figure out. I have a feeling this Yoshino guy has more up his sleeve than we think and Mahiro just scares me. His single minded obsessiveness and unpredictability is kind of freaky, especially paired with those manic and slightly evil expressions of his. If I was his best friend, I think I'd be watching my back. The story's pretty different too--though I probably just got used to reading mangas about psychics and the sudden "magic" word and their easy acceptance of sorcerers threw me off. It's pretty exciting though, and the art is beautiful and the transitions smoothly done.

Depending on where this goes, it could be a very good manga or a an 'ok' one. So far so good. I would recommend you give it a try. I like most of the characters and the art is nice.
I rate manga by docking a point for each thing I don't like about it. So far, it's a 9.5.

EDIT: Plots-wise it gets better further in. I've read the raws up to recent chapters and there is a certain good twist around chapter 40 I think.

With only two chapters translated out, I can't really judge it. But it looks promising. The art is pretty excellent as well. Or at least, in my opinion anyways.
But an Iron-epidemic/curse-thing? It sounds more like alchemy than magic to me >.>...
