A series full of misdirection

This author as I read three of his works already, seems to like using the plot twist of this origin of aliens and I find it stupid and getting sick of it, as it is too easy and outlandish. From vampires, magic, and other things he puts in his works explanation are aliens. The series uses these twist pretty flimsy and comes off as jarring as you. Like the main character motivation you see him thinking in his inner monologue obsessing with revenge and it turns out that what he doesn't want all along but something else. The series is strong example of putting too much plot twist. The side characters quickly became much less relevant thanks to the overuse of the plot twist plot device
The series has it's good, I thought Bridget being flawed and wrong, shows she's not perfect but still showing her strengths was well done in that aspect. The ending felt abrupt, if the author had 70 more pages it would have been more satisfying. The author has written himself in a corner as the alien fight was extremely anticlimatic. Overall the series has more downs than ups

Accidentally Read as Wrong Target Audience Age

Possibly, perhaps, because I am no longer in the correct target audience age group range, is the reason I did not enjoy this manga in particular.
The story, of what I read (which is not all), was filled with many plot twists after another, but they seemed to be relevant enough for other people. Unfortunately, for me, it seemed too unreal and strange, too focused on making the main character experience enough tragedy and hardships. But what irked me the most was that the main character was altogether too forgiving, as if he had no other emotions. In the end, despite being curious about his past and the mystery behind the circumstances which made me continue to read in spite of these problems (for me), I decided to quit once this much was revealed because of how improbable it seemed to me of his forgiving nature.
Besides this, one other thing almost made me stop reading entirely, which was the reason for one of the plot twists, which was the answer itself: aliens.
One more complaint would be that the summary is not quite what you might be expecting. That, and the tag "Romance" is not the focus of this series. Rather, it seemed to be the underlying reason for the cause of the problems in the story, but it was not a love story, which I thought was strange considering I believed this was a shoujo when in truth, it was a shounen. It was the art that fooled me, but otherwise, be prepared for that if you are expecting to read this for romance, search elsewhere, as this is not filled with the fluff you might be looking for.
If perhaps I was younger and somewhere closer within the age range of the intended audience, I might have enjoyed it much more, but as I am out of range, it was rather less pleasing.
Although I didn't mean to rant and rave about not enjoying it, again, I'd like to blame it on my age, given other people seemed to enjoy it quite well.

What an amazing read. The art is not the best but the story is so good that I can look over it. I won't say anything other than give a read, if you dislike the art just grit your teeth and give a go. You will not regret it. Wish more group translate manga's that focus on story such as this.

I've been postponing reading this manga for over a year, finally I brought myself to read it yesterday night and I just finished. Loved it.
Normally I dont read tragedies (except Shakespeare, those make me laugh xD), they make feel bitter for days, but this one did not leave me that after taste even with the sadness it left.
I recommend this story if you feel like reading a brilliant development with the proper ending.

I've read this in one go and finished it at the time I write this review. Just like the other comments, I agree that this manga have successfully created a character that I called as "perfect" (smart, strong, good looking, and most of all, over-compassionate). Unfortunately, those "perfect" points negatively affect my emotions toward the character and make the story seems unrealistic.
BUT (with capital 'B'), I still call this manga as a beautiful piece that teach us about love and sacrifice. Those points are strongly signified along the story, and was ended with the salvation of all of the characters (not only the MC). As a philosophical story fans, what can I ask more?
So, in brief, I can call this piece as "really recommended" manga... have a nice read
Edit: Ah, I forgot to add... I also falling in love to how the author gives detail on the plot (politics, strategy, psychological warfare, n so on) so that there will be no plot-hole that can be found... really nice

The beginning to middle was pretty interesting with a lot of twists.. The second half I became very dull. Ending was a bit disappointing. I would also not say this Manga had any real "romance" in it. Artistry could have been better I think.

straight off the bat it starts with a confusing battle against the Vampire king and some other people.. The story then slowly unfolds.. With the king giving many mixed signals of things.. Then when everything was found out about his true intentions.. I felt it went downhill from there. I found some characters to be too dramatic in odd moments.. I also fealt the story wasn't perfectly connected. The ending was too simple.

I read this entire manga in one sitting because i loved that much, the amount of plot twists in this story was just incredible and i mean that in a good way, you think you finally understand the situation and BAM theres more to it or theres a twist to it.

The part where you find out the whole truth always brings a tear to my eye. I mean especially with everything he went through with his wife and child being killed and then having to fight their soul constantly and not alowing himself to die all for the sake of everyone else

I really liked the beginning but the plot twists threw me off.
There were many plot twists that seemed unnatural or impossible, especially
The hardest part for me to really accept about the story was the fact that there would be someone/something willing to sacrifice their own happiness/future to such an extent for the sake of others. This is also why I give it a 9 instead of a 10.
Yet the work itself is quite intriguing, and I often find myself rereading it. I also like how it didn't create a "bad" character, because really, each character should have his or her own circumstances. This leads to different characters being "bad" from different points of views. All in all, I find this take on vampires very interesting as usually in pop culture they are blood-thirsty and violent whereas here they really seek to create peace with the human race and the dhampirs actually want to become human.

regarding Strauss' suffering throughout the years... for a human. Yet, Strauss was not a human but a vampire who lived over 1000 years. The knowledge and resolve that he gained through his many painful experiences have shaped him into an all-powerful godlike king who can disregard his emotions for the sake of his country.
It is unreasonable to compare him to human standards, and claim that due to "human nature" no one would be able to sacrifice him/herself like that. We do not have 1000 years of firsthand experience nor the feeling of being all-powerful.

It starts of with a bit of fighting manga technique bullshit, but then it gets better. Nice plot and promising characters. Big reveals, drama, struggle................ And then the second half starts.
It ruins a lot of what first half has built up. Reveals become ridiculous.
The author shouldn't have chickened out and should've gone darker.

No villains. Everything is blamed one one crazy had 1000 years ago. Everyone is a tragic hero and the aliens are faceless.
Akabara is too much of a good guy, Bridget is stupid, the last fight is pointless.
