I didn't really ask for happy ending seriously. Author just stopped going any further after 1st world Yuno dies before Yukki. Because at this point in time both parties didn't have any regrets at all but yeah it was sad to see Yuki wandering through space for 10.000 years with sadness in his heart without Yuno. But following storylines become so far-fetched like Yuno friggin destroying that ball with her hammer. If that was the case then they should have done this from beggining rather than going through so many trouble, anyways. In short if you are looking for manga where yandere character shines then imo it is best manga and Yuno is the best yandere character you ever ask for. I only enjoyed this manga because Yuno was there as main character. I still think Yukki is still coward and still haven't manned up yet in my eyes. Too bad Yuno had crush on that kind of loser. I would be here for her all time but anyways. Also Uryuu Miene is my second favorite character. She is one hell of strong female character in this story and has most sad background and past. I'm still in confusion and can't pick up wheter my favorite character is Uryuu and Yuno. If you like the Uryuu then I'm sure you will enjoy the side story as well. Oh by the way why do I get this felling everytime I see Akise and he making me remember Kouru from Evangelion? He was also so cool character. I would be even gar for him if there was someone like him in the real life. Jokes aside it was good read but medicore. You shouldn't get your hopes up but I'm sure its going to be really popular series since its also animated recently on TV. And Yuno will be my eternal waifu for sure and Uryuu. FLYIN BABIES FTW!

Errrr......

Hmmm.....I don't like. This genre is not right for me. I felt like I was reading Elfen Lied, where everyone is super cute and happy, and the next moment super cute and psychotic (which scares the crap out of me). So if you don't want to read stuff like that, drop this instantly before you regret it.

The story starts off With Amano Yukiteru, who have a difficult time making friends and thinks himself a bystander as he writes stuff that happens around him in his cellphone diary. His imaginary friend, Deus Ex Machina, who is apparently is the Lord of Time and Space, decided to help him out by giving "the future" to him. Apparently, thinking this was a joke since there's no way his imaginary friend is actually real, he decided to brush if off until his diary began recording future events. He was suddenly thrust in a game along with 11 other participates, and forced to compete for the title of Deus's successor and become god.

And so....the chapter starts off weird. So I was thinking to myself, "Ok, it'll get better later on." It did not get better for me. Yuno Gasai, the main character's love interest (or more of a stalker) is just plain crazy. She's cute and then the next moment, she's psychotic Amano....is a crybaby like everyone say. I don't know if he did mature later on in the story or he became kinda psychotic as well. Other characters is ok compare to them and you'll grow to like them. There is also 2 other side volumes dedicated to the side characters' stories.

Story pacing is fast. There is no fillers so it keep the audience's attention at all time.

I enjoyed the story. But I know for sure I'm not rereading this again 'cause this genre doesn't fit well for me. However, I will rate this high because of the storyline and how well it was done.

Lovable yandere

Psychological insight into the protagonists' mind was not quite satisfying for me, but given the targeted audience it was more than acceptable. It was truly painful to watch Yukiteru's behavior, mainly his naivety, and I could not stand Yuno suffering because of that. I am glad he matured a little and became a tolerable character (though he surely took his time).
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
I would not say it directly connects to maturity, yet I was truly happy when he started killing his friends, be it rightfully or not.
Because I did not care about anything besides Yuno living (she IS the main character, who needs Yukiteru anyway... well, yes, Yuno).

Story was relatively good, with unexpected twists, but I cannot find much value in it without the yandere girl, as she was (in my eyes) driving force of this series.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Though I started to like the 9th later in the story.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
I quite of expected that Yukiteru will be the only one (or one of a few) to survive (unfortunately), so as saddened as I was, I found myself waiting for Yuno's death. But a happy end? Yes, it is great that Yuno survived and seems to be really happy, however I cannot help but feel that the happy end was somehow... forced and unfitting? That is right - too many dead people came back to life.

Imo this is a rlly good read.... most ppl find it pretty confusing cuz there seems to be a lot of details especially at the end(dont want to spoil anything), so you shouldn't stop reading cuz it gets confusing, this manga is probably one of the best reads yet and has a lot of suspense. The Yandere gets pretty hectic too ^^

I found it enjoyable and the premise is interesting, but... ISN'T IT TOO FAST?

I like fast-paced stories a lot, but this is just too much. Characters get introduced into the story at blinding speed and they get killed off almost just as fast. It's just too fast for me to appreciate the characters. To make things worse, character development isn't impressive, either. Pretty much the entire manga is focused on Yuno's character, and Yuki's character is only fleshed out in the latter half. The other characters pretty much get fleshed out just before they die.

The plot also seems jumpy, and the speed at which the story is told isn't helping the cohesion one bit. And as someone mentioned earlier, deus ex machinas are aplenty, especially at the closing chapters. It would have been okay if the deus exes were limited to the future diaries, but... yeah.

In the end, I think that Mirai Nikki is a tad too overrated. You might be able to overlook the flaws if you enjoy your standard shounen fare, but if you're looking for something a bit more mature (no, gore, nudity and sex does not make a manga mature) this isn't it.

But hey, props to Esuno Sakae for making me read this to the end.

Man this manga was EXCELLENT! It has it all! The plot was so new, so unpredictable, so riveting. I loved reading it - it was so much fun to read. Not cliche in the slightest , so refreshing. A truly great manga about time manipulation. I know people gave this manga lower scores because Yukki was seen as a "wimp" but I feel that everyone has this messed up notion that the protagonist should be some unrealistic amazing person who gets stronger with every battle and has guts and wisdom oozing out every orifice of his body. Yukki was BELIEVABLE. That's what I loved about him and all the other characters of this manga. Even in such a made up world, they're motivations and their stories were unique and enjoying to watch. If Yukki was the protagonist everyone wanted, this manga might have turned into a boring cliche shounen piece of crap. Thanks to the mangaka for producing this manga in such a great way, it was a really good read. x)

Turned into a pretty fun read

I was surprised it turned out much better than I expected. Its fairly light and is a really fast read which I liked.

Like other reviewers have mentioned Yuno is a pretty awesome character. Yandere characters are often presented either as a bit goofy and unhinged or completely psychotic. Yuno is occasionally funny but is mainly scary psychotic and strangely sympathetic. You end up rooting for Yuno, which is a pretty awesome achievement by the author. As you can see by other reviewers comments, everyone loves Yuno.

I think Yuki gets unfairly bashed by some reviewers. He's not a wuss 100% of the time, more like 75% of the time lol. 1st in his defense he's a pretty lonely kid, who's never had friends and comes from a broken home. His folks are never around, so he's never had a role model for bravery. He only knows how to protect himself by not being involved and living in his fantasy world. This is how his character was written, if you are looking for a character that constantly betters himself then read Kenichi (HSDK), if you want continuous powerups against bigger and badder bosses then read Dragonball or Bleach. Yuki is a flawed and immature character (he's a kid not even in High School) that sometimes acts bravely and other times acts cowardly. He sometimes makes mistakes and bad decisions and sometimes good ones. 2nd he's not always a wimp. He takes down some major characters himself, rescues Yuno, and even shoots some people. 3rd and most importantly what some don't realize is that if Yuki was a badass he wouldn't need Yuno! If he was stronger he might not want her around and Yuno wouldn't have a chance to shine. I mean part of what's hilarious here is that
Spoiler (highlight to view)
the guy has to keep around and rely on his psychotic stalker!
It wouldn't happen if Yuki was too strong willed of a character and it would change the relationship and role of Yuno.

My complaints about this manga is that there are some weaknesses in character motivations and backgrounds. Really the strongest fleshed out characters are Yuki and Yuno. Some of the other characters are thin and not well developed. Some situations are glossed over or rushed thru and there are a few plot holes.

As I was reading this I thought the Manga might be a 7 or 7.5, but it got better especially towards the end with some twists raising my final score. The very final end was a bit of typical shonen ending which I didn't think they needed and maybe took a bit away from everything. All that said I think the final 10-15 chapters were pretty strong and raised my score to an 8. I recommend it.

wow. After reading I can say that the end sure wrapped things up (if not too well) for Yuki. It was honestly way more than he deserved. Why wasn't I selected instead to be the 1st, if he qualified. lol
That was the first manga I've read with such an unbelievably spineless crybaby protagonist, though arguably you could almost say Yuno was the main character seeing as how I endured till the end for her.
I hated Yuki. Stupid wimp. He was cool for a total of 2 chapters max. Yuno on the other hand was a much more interesting character. Damn it... this series had potential but just wasn't carried out too well to make a solid manga. I want to rate high, but Esuno put me through Yuki's bullshit a;ldkhga;ldskhfpoweiu
The romance and paradoxical stuff could've made an awesome manga, but I guess "silly" was more of what Esuno was going for... :/
