Errr...tbh in the beginning I found this very boring but still ok...it kinda was good but I soon lost interest at chp 4 and I should of gone with that and not read the rest of the manga...but I did because of the many comments on here saying how good it gets towards the end etc....Tbh, yes this mangas not bad but...its just too plain and boring for me, I seriously loooove this and at certain points I was rolling around in my bed because of this :L but later on after just passing the first few boring chapters it got good SPOILER:where the red head was kidnapped SPOILER.
To sum up I'd say its good but, a little lesson learnt for me is that if its not so great in the beginning you it won't be later on.

Push through the boring first few chapters, and you'll be rewarded. I thought I'd drop this manga after a few chapters but I actually ploughed through all available chapters (32 at this time) in one go... The story gets into a good pace and the arcs aren't drawn out. Artwork isn't something to shout about; but it's pretty clean and everyone looks ok.
The heroine isn't always a damsel in distress, actually thinks for herself but still has little behaviors only a fluffy shoujo will have. (blushing furiously, having some sorta scent that makes everyone and their mother attracted to her...etc.) I feel that the side characters should break out of their cookie cutter roles a little, but at least they aren't annoying. Main hero (Zen) seems kind of slow in character development... he's basically too nice and too dependable from the start...
But overall a shoujo manga different from the norm and should be given a chance.

When I first saw this manga, I thought that it would be like the other shoujo romances where I want to barf instead of smile. But while reading this, the sweet moments that Shirayuki and Zen share together make me act sort of like a fan girl... and I NEVER act like one unless it involves FMA or the Beatles! And yes, I prefer shounen mangas over shoujo. I rarely enjoy reading many shoujo romances (especially fantasy/supernatural ones) because they are really girly most of the times, but when they are good, I can't help but love them and Akagami no Shirayuki is one of those shoujos!
Also, not only is story good, but the art is much better than many other shoujo art. You won't find oddly misproportioned bodies and faces in this manga which is more common than you would think as I have noticed. Another great thing, is that Zen isn't like one of those popular, perfect, and calm characters. It's a nice change of scenery from the usual cliched shoujo mangas with beautiful, popular, calm, yet easily angered/embarrassed lead male that is in almost every single shoujo manga out there! I recommend this to anyone looking for slow and sweet shoujo romances. WOW... was that ever a really long comment!

... this manga will show you, you just need love!
An amazing story of love between a commoner and a prince frome another country. And finally a manga where both of them have an actual personality and the will to change something. A girl who doesn't want to get spoiled and actually does something on her own, and a prince who doesn't want to sit idly in his study, but actually cares for those around him, and the all the people in his country. Sounds cliche? Well if that's not enough to lure you in, it can't be helped, you'll just miss one of the best romance and fantasy mangas out there, and with it time giggling or grinning like a small girl when actually something happens betwen the two of them.
great plot, nice characters and very beautiful art, just give us a bit more from the side characters: 9.5/10

I have been keeping up with this manga for so long and I thought I would share how much I love it. Every single time they have one of their moments it is too cute!! And I'm not talking about the mushy "I love you" *blush blush I'm so shy* stuff. It's more natural and neither of their lives completely revolve around the other, which is so refreshing.
Like many others have said, it has a very calm, laid-back vibe, and I happen to like that more than the typical overdramatic scenes to keep people reading. The series is interesting enough without the unrealistic (although this is a kind of fairy tale based story so it is unrealistic already in a sense....) and frankly, annoying extra characters and scenes.
I would definitely suggest this manga to all. 10/10

I luuv this manga!~ The art is adorable, the story is cute, even thought it has nothing to do with snow white which is actually good in my opinion.. The romance between Shirayuki and Zen is quite cute.. i luv how they were friends first and grew to love each other.. but wht makes me wonder is how old they are.. they never said anything about their ages even though they look like their in the teens it still haunts me.. i give this a 10 ;DD

Despite appearances, this story is nothing like Snow White story. Shirayuki means "Snow White" in Japanese, coincidentally. She has vibrant red hair, like an apple--this is apparently an extremely rare color, so she's naturally famous because of that. Zen is a prince. That's a spoiler right there. lol. But their romance didn't develop until later. Their relationship is strictly platonic--or so it seems until later in the book. (I just wanna note right here that I was totally CHEERING them on even though they acted as friends for some times). So they got closer as friends--And I think this is what makes the story interesting for me; the development in romance that's so smooth that I'd believe it and made fell in love with the manga more and more.
The art is awesome. Coloring is also well done. Very cute.
When I was reading it, I had a bit of a difficult time (more than my usual going straight to mangafox) finding the chapters. As for now (this post), there are 28 chapters scanlated. The scanlation group is Omari's Sisters. You can just go to their website to download the pdf version of the manga chapters instead of reading them online. Mangareader and mangafox don't have all the chapters posted on their website, so I had to hunt down the missing chapters. Lol. Not very fun when I was avidly reading it. But we should all support and thank the scanlating group for doing all this for us: THANK YOU!! (if they'd ever read this..haha)
The manga as a whole is quite addictive. I wanna go find fanfiction of it now, if there are any...
Checklists:
-romance (developing)
-17 years olds romance (lol, as if that's significant)
-royal family
-status issues (but not much)
-sword fights (little, but still present)
-adventure (
-the arts of medicinal herbs
-love triangle (but pairing is pretty clear...)

Everybody has their own taste.
I read 1st chap, it's so shoujo-cliche with nothing new.
And I judged there'll be more cliche.
And there's nothing that forced me to read next chap.
The artwork good but nothing special, standard shoujo-style.

The definition of cliched: "Something repeated so often that has become stale or commonplace; hackneyed."
As far as I can tell, this is one of the most refreshing shoujos I've ever read. It has many aspects of a regular shoujo fairy tale, but the way it's told doesn't seem cliche at all. I can't remember the last time I read a story where the author's payed so much attention to little details in the plot in order to craft it out. I mean a romance that's actually developed? Beautifully clean and crisp art? Characters that don't act robotic or unconvincing?
This manga has it all.
Also, cliche isn't always a negative connotation. Two people falling in love is technically a cliche.
This story is take on the original Snow White, but it seems nothing like it. Snow White is changed into an intelligent, strong-willed female who thinks things through. She occassionally depends on Zen to save her, but to be honest, unless she was some sort of "I can get out of every situation without thinking" Mary Sue, it would be difficult on her own.
Shirayuki isn't the only likable character. The whole cast is awesome and not irritating.
Even though this is a take on Snow White, the author only gives us two references (the only ones I could find): running away from home, and the poisoned apple.
And I have to laugh when people said the art makes the characters look the same. They obviously haven't read enough shoujo manga; characters are almost always cookie-cutter with the same face, but different hair. At least with Akagami no Shirayukihime, they have some identifiable features. Like Shirayuki's hair, Obi's scar, Kiki's eyes, ect.
If you can't handle slow, well thought out romances, I discourage you from reading this.
Edit: I seriously don't understand all the ones this manga's getting. Because I can assure you it doesn't deserve a score that low.

You try getting off a sailing ship with your hands tied behind your back all on your own.
I'm not fond of the fact that everyone and their mother seems to fall for her, but at least a female WITH A BRAIN is getting men to fall for her. Shirayuki isn't the only likable character. The whole cast is awesome and not irritating.
