when i first saw this one i thought that this one will certainly have an unhappy ending because of the human x robot relationship, but in the end i figured out that even though it didn't had happy ending Watase made your reading worthwhile. this manga maybe cheesy at times, but that's the part that your gonna love about it i recommend it to those people out there who want to have good cry!! a definite must read!!!

Worth a Read

The beginning was humourous and the end was bittersweet. There were times when the main character's indecisive tendencies got on my nerves. At times the story seemed a little drawn out with repetitive themes. Generally speaking, though, I felt the message this manga presents is a nice one and the characters were easy to like. Even though a lot of people seem to have disliked the ending, I felt it was perfect. I think this manga was worth the read, although it hasn't become an instant favourite of mine.

After all the comedy and romance, we can't deny it to thread on deeper into emotions and realizations. This one definitely made me ponder how we value things and people around us. This would be one of those mangas that I would not forget.

Well the ending for suck at first, but the I thought of it and it was really realistic. The whole story was really addicting to read, lets say I finished the entire thing in 1 day. I just wish it was longer...

good but not great

I really liked the humor at the beginning and the premise of the story. The ending was touching but most of the events were too contrived for me to enjoy. The whole premise of having a robot lover (from the future?) is too unrealistic and leaves way too many plot holes. Still, the story is quite moving and it was an enjoyable read overall.

The beginning was very interesting, but the rest was just a bad case of a very very very indecisive girl. This manga is definitely NOT for older audiences or readers who have read better elsewhere.

This is the sort of plot that makes you think...
At first I wanted Riiko to end with Soushi because Night was a figure. I thought "Duh! What a naive girl to fall in love with a... robot! lol"
But after you read it till the end, and realizes all the effort they made to end up together, despite of what the others would think, and even knowing it would never work... they really tried so hard!
It made me reconsider many pre-concepts I had about love. I think the mangaka wanted to say "When you love someone, you care more about the one's happiness that about yourself." and also "Love is not always possible, but let's make it beautiful till the very end."

love is not just sugary perfection...

Spoilers in this post.

Okay, I'm all for happy endings and stuff but I think some of you are taking this a bit too far. I mean out of all the comments I've read so far... it's prettimuch a general consensus that "the ending sucks!" or "what a disappointment, Yuu Watase!" or "don't read this because of the retarded ending!" I, however, disagree.

Just because it isn't a happy ending, or the ending that YOU want, that shouldn't discredit the fact that it was a good manga and that Yuu Watase is a good writer who really THINKS about her manga. It might not be the pretty ending that you want, but it's the ending the author wanted to depict and that should make you as readers think WHY.

Yes, Riiko and Night were in love, but Night was a figure - not human. Sure, Watase could have made it a sugary happy ending, but personally I feel like that would have made the manga less provocative. It would have been less believable, less moving, and less thought-compelling than her emotionally charged ending.

Think about it. Night is a figure - even Riiko truly realizes this in the end - which is why she has to move on. Night knows that he can't truly be human with Riiko forever either, because he will not age, cannot provide her with a family - cannot truly be her lover. He loves her but he can't provide her with a normal human love that he knows she deserves. Night severs all ties with Kronos Heaven so that he can be with Riiko, but he also knows that without their constant hardware updates and the like, he will die. Night knows that he can't give Riiko a normal human relationship because despite all his gallant efforts, he is still only a figure. So Night makes plans ahead of time to send a letter to Soushi when he dies, because he knows Riiko deserves a human love. Even if Night will one day wake up, Riiko cannot wait for him forever. Riiko says so herself that even if Night were to wake up someday she might be older or maybe even a grandma by then. It wouldn't work. Sometimes no matter how much people are in love, it just cant work out. Night was Riiko's first love but not her last love. Riiko's relationship with Night was a period in her life that made her finally understand love and grow as a person.

I think Yuu Watase's ending was the most reasonable conclusion to this manga. It doesn't spoil it's readers with "warm and pretty lies" that love is perfect - because it's not. Your first love may not be your last love. That's right people, love is not perfect and I think Watase did a beautiful job of depicting that with her bittersweet ending.
