Thousands of years ago, Vampire King Akabara "Red Rose" Strauss lost both his kingdom and his queen. Since humans were unable to kill the queen, they sealed her away, erecting thousands of fake seals so that the king would never find her true location. Despite being pursued by relentless dhampires, Akabara continues to search for his queen to this day...

Akabara's quest takes a sinister turn when an entity called the Black Swan appears. The Black Swan inhabits the body of a young human girl every 50 years, giving her the power to destroy the Vampire King and his queen. With each incarnation the Black Swan grows stronger--will the 49th Black Swan mean the end of Akabara?

This series certainly gives the phrase
Spoiler (highlight to view)
" I'll even fly to the moon "
a whole new meaning.
I first thought this wasn't worth reading because the fight scenes seemed too shoujo-ish for my taste (A handsome vampire? Now where did I hear that before?). In fact, I even dropped it right off the bat. Wandering and searching for your lost beloved, it might seem pretty cool at first but would soon lost its novelty after one or two volumes.
But I was wrong. I picked this up again a few months later. And like they say, the plot thickens. You'll have to read more than 3 volumes to get a feel of what this manga is. I could almost feel the burden of the author, who is trying their best to paint a picture, a magnificent one. The execution might not be perfect, some elements might seem unbelievable, and just as in most tragedy series, some characters do get over-sentimental. But there's a great story to be told here. A story about a fallen vampire.

This entire manga is made of win and awesome.
It has an interesting setting and some truly unique characters and the art is great. One of the best I've ever read.

The quality of this manga fluctuates, in terms of its story portrayal and story plot.

The art is at best average. Sometimes it is not proportional.
I can say a lot more but I don't bother - not worth my time.
It is okay at best and lower than average at the worst.
I have put this on my "read this when bored and growing moldy" list.

really good story almost made me cry tbh duno y i didnt.
this doesnt have much action in it even though the start seems like it does, its good for its story towards the end is jus reading a lot..
and by the genre saying its romance, not the ones where 2 people fall in love and blah blah blah etc
basicly best story iv read..

This is one of the few mangas I would bother trying to convince others to read. The story is very unique and interesting, with plot twists that aren't too far fetched considering the evidence and foreshadowing provided previously.

I really like Strauss too. It seems like he's really in control of the situation.

I'd have to partially agree with the comments which say the art is bad. It's not terrible. It's tolerable. But it's definitely not the greatest. Most of the female characters have bad taste with clothes. XD

I haven't read that much of it, like 5 chapters >>;; but so far I'm really liking Akabara (Vampire King). I feel bad for him, even though i don't know for sure whether or not he's the one at fault (truly) in this whole thing.

I hope Akabara wins the whole warish thing. =/

nor black nor white, only gray....
thats why is also so difficult to tune up this story, it a great try, but i think its impossible too match the bad actions(like genocidal bad) and the good actions (like being nice to birds and loving profoundly) that most characters do

But that's just my opinion. I bought this manga and read it, because I have a sorta (natural) attraction to vamp stories. After reading it, I was sorta dissapointed. Exactly how are the vampires in the story vampiric? There's not even a whole lot of blood in the story so far. The prints on many of the kimonos are clip-arts, and the art isn't exactly one of the best I've ever seen. When two character interactions are shown, it never looks realistic, and not a whole lot of details are added to clothing (such as folds, ripples, seams...)
As for the story, it's actually OK.

I absolutely adore this. As far-fetched as the plot seems to be getting I find myself easily accepting the developments. I love how what I thought was going to end up a sappy love story has turned into a complicated story of betrayal, revenge and politics. The characters are well thought out and even in just 17 chapters a lot of good development on them has occured. The mysteries yet to be revealed have me hooked and I love the Vampire King! The artwork is fantastic as well. Lots if good potential building.

UPDATE: A new scanlating group has just taken this manga up so new releases very quickly. YAY!
