Reimei no Arcana

Description

Princess Nakaba of Senan is forced to marry Prince Caesar of the enemy country Belquat, tantamount to becoming a hostage. While Caesar is pleasing to the eye, he is also selfish and possessive, telling Nakaba outright: "You are my property." With only her attendant Loki at her side, Nakaba must find a way to cope with her hostile surroundings, her fake marriage...and a mysterious power!

Reimei no Arcana is great. I was resisting to read it because I thought it'd be another shoujo with a crying-girl-looking-for-her-perfect-prince but no, I ended loving it. RNA is the way a shoujo must be. Many people could say that it's cheesy or with many cliches, so what are you reading this? Shoujo is romance and drama basically.
The characters are simple but well done.
The art is super hiper mega great!
The plot is nice and promises a lot. I love all the lovey-dovey scenes because they show a passionate love without using smuttiness like in other 'shoujos'.

I have high hopes in this manga. I pray mainly for that the plot won't go down and the mangaka could manage all of these resources to bring a good story like until now. Btw, that guy in the V4 cover seems that's going to introduce something interesting. Hope so.

Appealing characters, interesting plot

This probably is one of TOMA Rei's best manga so far. The art work is great and more complicated than usual, I'm actually hoping that this manga would be sold in my country, I'd love to include this in my collection!
The story is complex but not boring, it made me forgot my drowsiness! The heroine is smart and brave, quite likeable. The other characters are very cool too.
I have read the Chinese version too, and I like it so far.

I'm really impressed. This is the first actually strong heroine I've seen in a while. She's gutsy but smart enough not to be fearless, and the ways she shows her vulnerability melts me (and it seems, the prince). The prince is actually nasty but shows hints of...not goodness, but softness when it comes to the heroine, which will be interesting, as he is still quite a horrible person. (Just because he's soft on someone doesn't mean he'll be good to them. And yet it's that possibility that intrigues.) The dynamic between the newly wedded prince and princess is taut, really teetering on the edges between violence, attraction, and respect--a really interesting combination that I respect.

Beautiful Art, Well Told Story

Dawn of the Arcana is a very beautiful series with clean art and fantastic character designs. It wasn't until I read it through for the third time that I noticed the background art and action scenes are much weaker in comparison - but the character art is so strong that you may very well not notice.

The story is concise and well thought out, even if it does fall into some old love triangle tropes. I found each character relatable and likable to a certain extent, because we get to see the story from almost every perspective. My one complaint:

Caesar's past relationship with Louise was troubling to me purely because of the strong implication that their relationship was sexual, and the fact that he left her without a second thought for Nakaba. This point is greatly glossed over but really… Louise really loved him, even if she was jealous and selfish, but it really seems like he only had sex with her to spite his brother, and never really cared about her. Those are not the makings of a honorable man :/

Amazing yet flawed series

If I were to decribe Reimei no Arcana, it would be an amazing yet flawed manga. I am absolutely in love with the story and the artwork. I don't know why there are a few people who seem to claim that the art needs more work, but I think it fits the story well. The mangaka draws and writes emotional scenes very well and there are quite a few heartbreaking moments in this manga.

Now for the romance. I am absolutely in love/heartbreak with Caesar and Nakaba. I'm sorry Loki, even though you loved Nakaba first, it's very clear that Nakaba's heart belongs to Caesar and vice-versa. Too bad something happens later on in the series where they separate... and it just crushes my heart. There are way too many feels in this manga! Besides, Loki has always seemed a little bit shady to me. It always looks like he has /some/ kind of ulterior motive.

Anyway, even though Caesar was an ass in the beginning, he becomes someone who I look for in a hero. I believe that he loves Nakaba whole-heartedly and would do ANYTHING for her. Even going so far as to irrevocably commit something that can be labeled tragic in my opinion. She does the same thing as well. In order for change, you must give up something in return.

Overall, I'm really enjoying the story so far. I'm starting to see that this series will go on for quite some time since there are a bunch of unresolved feelings and the rest of the arcana members to be revealed. The reason why I'm claiming that this manga series is flawed is due to the fact that while the story started out really amazing, the later chapters are rather boring. Especially after the whole Akhil/Lithuanel arc. I'm completely clueless after that because there's apparently a time skip after chapter 39.

Splendid

This manga is splendid! I got hooked since the first volume.
I just randomly bought Viz' new-coming manga and this one is absolutely worth it! I really love Viz' translation, it makes you get the feeling right. At the moment, I'm still at Volume 2 (Viz), but I can tell that it's an interesting manga with historical-action-romance genre. I wish that Caesar had more dialogue script so we can get to know him more....
The plot is well done and the facial expressions are well done as well, and the background is quite detail and clean. Great first-fantasy-manga series from this mangaka. It doesn't disappoint and makes me want more. Hope it happens to other readers as well. 🙂

Predictable and a let-down

Its predictable and the story is told clumsily. Art wise faces are done nicely, bodies ok, bad hands and feet, so-so clothing, backgrounds are mediocre when there is any, action or movement is a joke. I was disappointed because I heard it was popular. I gave it 2 volumes, maybe it gets better later on but it wasn't sufficiently good in beginning to hold me.

A tad cliche. I wince a little at some of the typical kinds of characters and interactions, but it's bearable.

For me there is an overall interesting story, and while the characters aren't the best nor the most original, they aren't unbearable to watch either. The main heroine may have her moments to seem like a weak typical shoujo heroine, but in other situations she does show some initiative and courage. She's not completely helpless and dependent on the main male.

I don't know if I should call this sorry disappointing, frustrating or what. Everywhere you look, everything is falling apart. The was fine but who was really happy in the end?!?! GEEZZZ MOOD SPOILER.... P.S. I still like it, about.... only about 65%, maybe a lil more. Had it's exciting points.

...for Loki. I think he's probably the most pitiable character in this manga. He's like forever alone yet he have to bear such tragic feelings and

such tragic ending. As for Nakaba, I didn't like her that much. She was pretty irritating even at the beginning of the story and as she progresses throughout the story, I find her confusing herself in every chapter more and more. She's really indecisive and well...I just don't like her. I think the one with biggest character development would be Caesar. He's all high and mighty at first but gradually turning into a gentleman. He's still strong but less aggressive compared to how he is in the beginning.

As for the story, I think it's quite decent and the flow of the plot goes on like a seamless line which I think it's pretty fine. It's not complicated and it's very clear what's going on around. The art...well, I've always loved Toma Rei's way of drawing so I've got no complains, definitely. Just a tiny bit of the characters. :> Even so, it's a nice read.
