Description

Half baked story

Since this is not a fiction, but true story based, I may be a bit harsh.
The story is too vague and all over the place. The tag psychological is also too big for this story.
The main character, Ryousuke, gives me the impression of a selfish person. He keeps blaming his unfortunate love live on his sexual orientation, to the extent that he ventilated his anger on his two close female friends. Come on dude, same sex love has same sex's own problems, like wise heterosexual love. LGBT couples aren't the bellybutton of this galaxy. I do not know if he irl apologized to his friends or not, but he did not in the story. Too selfish and self-centered.

The reason I say the tag psychological is too big a cloak for this story is because it's common among LGBT couples from countries where same sex marriage is not legalized, and the way the author mentioned it in this story is just half-baked.

Last, the way he met his husband is nothing special, to be frank. His husband is ONE OF his sex friend who he got matched browsing "tinder". They had one night stand, they parted, and a year later his husband texted him that he wanted a relationship after his breakup. So what lesson did we learn from this story? Keep tindering then your true love will come 🙄😕 I was expecting he would meet his husband through social activities rather than this lame circumstance.

Nice and hopeful

I cried after reading chapter 5.3
Family support is so important.

I'm so happy it has a good and hopeful ending for a gay couple and a boy struggling so hard to accept himself.
Biggest reason I'm so happy about the ending is, ppl who are different needs hopeful stories like this to keeps going bcz it's so hard for others treat u good when u are different, so Im so thankful to this work and hope it gives hope and strength to ppl who need help.

Really touching, wholesome, and heartfelt. This is such a palette cleanser and reminds you what realism is - autobiographical manga should be more and more common. It's a wonderful medium (however I'd like to read the essay as well!!)

I can't count how many times i cried reading this. Sometimes I saw myself in Ryo, sometimes I was just crushed by the weight of his own feelings. And what's most important - this manga showed world from LGBT person's point of view. It wasn't sexualised but also wasn't excessively innocent. Just perfect. If I could I would give this manga to every person that is against us just because they don't understand us. I wish it was compulsory reading in schools.

These are the real experiences of a real, living person and it's fascinating to hear Nanasaki's Journey through his life and the ups and downs that come with it. The vulnerability that comes with telling people about your poor decisions and all the pain that accompanies that is commendable and the artist did a nice job conveying emotion in their drawing. Unfortunately, the manga can't cover the full scope of the essay in depth and it feels like there is a lot to be read within there so I can't give this a perfect 10. The incompleteness weighs on me a little.

I was very happy to see Ryousuke and Ryousuke together and in general, it seems like Nanasaki has a lot of wisdom regarding LGBT in Japanese society and was able to reflect on his experiences thoughtfully.

And I'll echo everyone else here, the Yeboi team really enhanced the reading experience with detailed endnotes to fill in the gaps left in the original manga.

This is so beautiful. There were times where I laughed relating, smiled from how wholesome it is, and at the brink of ugly tears.

I'm so happy for the author and that he found those with who he could have a strong bond with. And I'm so glad that children growing up now will have this to relate to and there are more people open in supporting them. And I'm crying at the fact the one who took the novel cover was his husband like, how adorable is that! No wonder he looked spectacular there, the lens is really the cameraman's soul. The moment I can, I'm snatching both the book and manga off the shelves.

welp i teared up almost every chapter

i think im glad that they made a manga out of the essay because i feel like it is more accessable to all and easy to read (especially for visual readers like me), though if given the accessibility, i would love to read the whole essay. but the translation team gave excerpts from the essay in each ends which is a huge huge help and more enlightenment for the story because there was more to it than in the manga.

also, as someone who dont know what will my future life be, this gave me some courage that life gets better soon and i shouldn’t give up. that there will always some people who will accept you wholeheartedly. this manga will be always be my safe haven and i will always come back here if i needed some courage. i still have lots to say but cant really express much… but give this manga lots of love because through ryousuke’s life, it will give you much hope and courage
