Their comment is old: I don't know how many chapters have been available at that point. But currently I'm up to ch. 36 out of 42 available chapters. If it's 1ch./week and there are 52 weeks a year, minus any hiatuses, then the comic was just newly released as of their comment. To be fair though, I think having the luxury to read this in a bulk is better than sitting waiting patiently week-by-week. And if it has been at the time previous review has been written, I would have been inclined to agree. Bcz at that time, probably not much development has been made in regards to enough clues given to understand the characters n their motivations. This review is based up to ch. 36 bcz these are the chapters on sale (up to ch..36/42 chapters). If you can get through the first roughly 30 or so chapters, then you get to the "meat" of the story. I wasn't sure myself to invest in such a story, but the dialogue is interesting and I wanted to see their backstory, which is coming out in the last few chapters (after 30 ch. Or so we're getting the "behind-the-scenes" chapters) as to how and why they became the way they are now. The build up is rather slow. There are A LOT of dropped hints as to how they became the way they are today, up to the few chapters before ch. 36, where their backstory comes in full display. But I won't say anything bcz that will spoil the story. And if you've only stuck it through the first tens or 20s or so chapters all you would see is a very sadistic & supposedly very horny Leon Winston. However, that is not the case. He's a much more complex character than presented. And honestly the way he talks is a bit poetic to me. He's very good with words. Honestly, I was really drawn to the cover art, and the whole spy theme is good. Lots of suspense. The artists do a good job to convey the characters and their emotions. At times, I think he's just punishing. But, as I read I can tell the Female Lead ("Sally Bristol", her spy alias) is a very conflicted character who is also very biased and brainwashed (well, depends on your view of things her viewpoints due to her upbringing may not be). She is raised as the equivalent of a communist (but they're called rebels bcz the establishment is based on nobility). So depends on your viewpoint regarding classism, capitalism, communism, you may agree with her upbringing as being alright. But her family's viewpoints (and thus of those of the "revolutionaries") are rather extreme. And depends on how communism or capitalism has affected you in everyday life, you might take her stance versus his. But their battle is caught in between these two ideologies.
FL's character
Grace is very conflicted & has a tumultuous upbringing & is SEVERELY brainwashed
And has HUGE abandonment issues!!! And has no uh, well, sense of self!!! But who would when they're constantly trying to fit into a mold right? -->>> so as not to be abandoned?!?
in survival mode (you'll see why after 30+ chapters in). A trigger for me. As this is how my life has been. So I understand where she comes from. So while I hate how she thinks, she's also very reflective of me. And needed a LOT of approval and reassurances, which she did NOT get, growing up.
I wish the FL would have better backbone but she is
Bent to everyone's will
And very naive and innocent
As opposed to her (future) hubby/current enemy/idk whatever. Leon is super smart. He has a twisty tongue u can't argue with him n win.
TW:
Lots of violence. Bcz, this is a comic about a fight between the royalists and rebel forces and well, there is a torture chamber so...
I'll be updating the comment when I read more of it. But it's a good story if you can see the motivations behind their actions. Also, I was VERY unsure about this story, but the sale is a good impetus (bcz I have coinsback I have to use) the sale goes thru 9/22/25...
Ch.43 just came out now. And I've bought all the available chapters.
