Good concepts, poor execution.

I didn't completely hate it, it did have it's moments & some nice ideas. I'm not particularly keen on the art; they're so masculine it's bordering on Bara. I do however have a friend who really loves the art style (& she also likes bara).

The Kitty Press licensed translation had me skeptical. If they had the gaul to change the title to a nontranslation, how could I trust that they didn't localize it & fill it with American pop culture references? Fortunately the large amount of untranslated Japanese words & a little dictionary in the back put my fears to rest.

I liked the idea of best friend semes competing over ukes & then fighting for who gets to be the top when they inevitably end up trying to screw eachother. But the execution was miserable.

*Almost every single man in this manga is a Marty Stu character.
I wanted to ay that Masatsugu's personality did a 180 at the end of the manga, then after thinking about it, I realized that he never had a personality to begin with. Neither does Kuniomi. They have incredibly shallow characterizations.
*Exposition about the character is delivered up-front, so Hagashino doesn't have to be assed with things like character development.
*Both protagonists offhandedly mention that they like women yet are never seen flirting with them.
*Suspension of disbelief is crippled by them being extremely & shamelessly openly gay in the early 1900s.
*For two guys who live for casual sex, they sure do put a lot of emphasis on romance. That diminishes their believably as manly playboys.
*A story about casual sex ending is sexual exclusivity seems somehow wrong.
*The sex scenes are ridiculously short & unsatisfying.
*When you have a story about 2 semes, they should be seke/reversible. & by making one slightly shorter/thinner/more attractive than the other, you know right off the bat which one's going to suddenly decide being a permanent bottom for the rest of his life is cool all of a sudden, despite having been a top for over a decade.

I have mixed feeling about this title. On one hand, I (sorta) liked it, but on the other, I thought the "story" was really shallow and lame. The characters were equally 2-D. The only thing I can say I liked for sure is the art. It was detailed. There were even backgrounds! The men were not effeminate either. So, I can guess the art was what kept me reading. Without it, I wouldn't have bothered and quickly forgotten this one.

Sexy lusty men

This manga was a good read. It wasn't fabulously done, but it was a quick pick from the bookshelf. I liked it and it was worth my money. I liked the lewd characters and naughty men. It's hot and fast. Nothing less, nothing more. It doesn't need to be a deep plot. It's a 5 chapter and a bonus ending book. Enjoy.

Some flaws but different

I actually liked the premise even if it set the main characters as simply playboys who target other men for their own egos. It's always meant to be that way - the mangaka often reminds us she's setting this story in a period where the rich 'lived it up' and had many flights of romance.

But, I will say the story stayed a little too shallow. I really feel like it could have had much more impact if the mangaka had fleshed out the characters a little more. Though it could've had a meaningful plot, because of the way it was portrayed it danced very heavily on the side of yaoi of plot-what-plot.

Another strike against it was the art. Where the flaws in the drawing style became most heavily noticeable was when the mangaka drew the main characters as children.... ugh. It was hard to look at.

But, if you want a light read with a sweet, albeit shallow story and somewhat different from 'innocent' characters, go for it!

it was nice to see something different (as in the semexseme storyline), but it really wasn't that well done. I guess it was pretty sexy, but there wasn't much plot. I tend to like my plot a little thicker. But it is a nice quick read. If you want a better semexseme story, go for Haru Wo Daiteita.

I read this a long time ago and I have been looking for this manga for like a week...found it! It's not the best yaoi manga ever made but it's really not bad. I thought the two main characters were sexy and I enjoyed their little rivalry. I also enjoy childhood friends turned lovers so others might too. I have to add, I love how passionate Kuniomi was toward Hanamura yum 😉

This is a light read that can be fun to read. It was for me.

I really liked this one. But that said the characters and art style and completely my taste fickle ahem, anyway the story was good, but predictable xD but it has some nice subtle humour and doesn't take itself too seriously but at the same time does not drop in gags every other page. The characters are interesting and though somewhat twisted they are good people under it all. Really enjoyed the ending, despite knowing exactly what would happen XD

this title can be frustratingly uneven. First of all, there is a very thin line between being a sexy bad boy type playboy and a callous a-hole and I felt like the two heroes crossed that line a few times during the story. I can't say too much without giving the plot away but if you read the first 3 chapters you might know what I mean.

the artwork is also a mixed bag- the mangaka handles strong masculine features well but softer features often look weird (a flashback with a younger Kuniomi in short shorts is especially bizarre looking). The storytelling is also inconsistent and sometimes rushes over the most important and interesting details such as the seduction of each bishounen (instead you get a quick montage of the couple riding horses, going to the theater etc.). However, things pick up a little after chapter 3- the mangaka deserves a few points for

pairing two blatantly seme characters together. You don't see that often in yaoi! Unfortunately, the two are somewhat pushed back into more traditional seme/uke roles once they get together. It was an interesting plot twist, though.
