I'm reallyyy sorry for the length of this.. but this would definitely not be a good review as half this comment is afterthought.
I got to give it to Sasaki Yuna for making the best smut manga I have ever read.
Yes, the art is wonky and inconsistent, and the story has a few nuts loose, but I admit I was intent on reading all the way through from start to finish, and I am both happy and upset with a few things.
TRUST ME, read the manga before my spoilers or else it will definitely ruin EVERYTHING:
Everything starts pretty shallow, and you could say it stays shallow throughout the whole series, but I don't think I have ever been moved so much by a smut manga in my life.
Tatsuya loved Sakura so much that he wanted to find a way that would allow her to live. Now, the mangaka could have just queued five years later or something and have them live happily ever after, but she actually surprised me by going one step further. That other step could have been taken if Sakura woke up with Tatsuya's son dead, but that would be pushing it I guess lol.
Also, I thought it would be an awesome mindf-ck if during the time Riyo brought Sakura back to be frozen again, that the other doctor would kind of just say "...brother..." somewhere. Like, I almost thought that Tatsuya married the secretary-researcher (sorry forgot her name) and they had Riyo and that other guy together, but of course I knew I was wrong five seconds later xD. I read this at like 2 in the morning so don't hate on me too hard. I see now that it would make no sense if they were related, but if they subtly worked that it that would have been awesome.
Anyway, I guess what kind of ruined it was Riyo (obviously). I mean, I don't really care that he raped her, I understand why he did it, but the love part? Really? I guess in hindsight I can see how they fell in love through their mutual hate/love for Tatsuya.. in that twisted sort of way.
BUT I don't accept the fact that she admitted she loved Riyo more than Tatsuya. That was a big punch in the face. When Tatsuya said she grew up, the only way I saw that growth was in the fact she lost her virginity -queue awkward laughter-.
One of the most powerful lines in the story was when Sakura told Riyo that they are not to blame, Tatsuya was at fault. I thought that was excellent execution and build-up to that point. I guess in that sense you can see she grew up/grew out of her delusional love for a man that is long gone, but I mean come on! She woke up from being trick-freezed! Of course she is gonna be a nutter.
This series has made me feel fuzzy and crappy at the same time. Good on ya!
I think if they fixed a few things up, got a new artist, and added some different ideas this would be a reallyyy interesting sci-fi. Like, I'm having a bunch of different plot twists coming up in my head just from reading this crap.
I gave this series a high rating for stimulating creative growth in my brain, and it was actually pretty good in its own way.
