Honestly this is one of those magas that if you don't like it I wouldn't befriend you. I understand that what people like subjective but I will go to bat for this series and I really really hope that this eventually gets an anime adaptation. I'm not great at giving reasons why this is one of my favorite mangas of all time but I will say that every element used in the story is done well. The storyline is great, the characters are great and the pacing is really done well. The pacings really done well I will say maybe 1 or 2 things are kind of crammed in there with too little build up but even then it doesn't subtract from the fact that this is an amazing manga and I kind of wish they had done a sequel or something. I don't know I just really wish there was more of this,I re-read it once every year.

Shoujo review

Man what to say. I finished this series back i11 years ago (2011) and it's still a solid shoujo manga (taking into account it ran from 1996 to 2000's) with a strong (at times silly) female lead with a strong male lead that has cute character development.
I think I have re-read Tokyo Crazy Paradise more than 5 times ever since I finished it. The comedy, characters and story twists are just always enjoyable each time I re-read it. I never get tired of it. Proper amount of chapters, not too long and not too short just enough. If you ignore some things (their ages....) and some plot holes it's really enjoyable. The art may not be the best but story and writing wise it's great.

Would have been nice to have a sequel but I think we see the characters again drawn in Skip Beat just in a review (I think but I can't remember).

This manga is overrated ,it was so fake and didn't live to its main plot ,and the female heroine was so noisy ,showoff and made a drama and confused over so obvious things which as she was strong willed should have acted more appropriate ,too much clichés of romance theme ,and nudity was like just to show him her body (for what? to make him love her more ? or to attract ecchi audience ? seriously it wasn't needed it felt force ,what a shallow common commercial way to a mangaka) ,and a lot more ...
So to sum it all it was down hell ,waste of time ,and it was a "meh" for me ,maybe teenager will find it a bit better, and some scenes made me feel like it was pushed on to make a twist...drop it and never have a plan to complete it ,just throw it in the garbage

Now this is one manga to watch out for. What can I say, is this the typical shoujo? Big NOPE. It was more a Shounen if you ask me - but don't let that deter you from picking it up. This is a considerably old manga - not one that I would usually read but since it's a familiar author's work - I didn't regret my decision.

I read it about 12-13 years ago so my memory is hazy but this is one of those works that sticks to you for a long time.

It's funny how it's set in 2020 and we just passed the year, although it's not quite like the author envisioned, it's still pretty chaotic lol.

The manga had extremely strong characters with powerful story lines, kept you guessing to the very end. The main leads had a great chemistry, some of the adult themes were pretty disturbing back then but the plot was conveyed in a very realistic manner.

The only drawback that I see now is the art, the author's style has drastically changed over the years. That being said it's not terrible, it's just in line with the other works of the time.

I sincerely hope the author plans on maybe working on a season 2 - a Josie version (not that the original wasn't mature) - maybe with a time leap of 10 years - when the characters are fully adult.

I am leaving this review in the hopes that it would urge readers to give this manga a shot. I, myself am planning to re-read it once more.

Highly recommended!

A good balance between action - comedy - romance

As the title of this comment says: a good balance. The characters are likable and the author goes out of their way to remind you of side characters that haven't appeared for a while, which is highly appreciated. The yakuza theme makes it interesting, there's a lot of drama and some mystery as well. All in all, can recommend *thumbs up*

I've read a tons of shoujo mangas and romances, from popular to unpopular, from mangas to Chinese novels. (... kinda embarrassing, but I still wanna say 😀)

And what I can say is, 'Tokyo Crazy Paradise' is special.

First, Tsukasa is strongest heroine I've ever seen, literally. She is so strong that I, at some points, find it ridiculous when she is always the person to rescue the main male lead (Ryuju). Tsukasa always fight by her self (most of the time). She doesn't need a man to save her. That's cool. (Not until chap 95 or so Ryu has a chance to protect her). Yes, she proved her self, to the gang, to the entire world.

Compares to the other normal romances, the heroines are usually protected and rescued by their men, which are so clinche and makes me feel 'argh..' and disgustingly irritated.

Second, ok, 'Tokyo Crazy Paradise' gives me a feeling of reading a Shounen. Yep, it has those action and Yakuza plot (which I skipped sometime due to my heavy romance need), it actually gives us the nerves, the tension, the stress feelings as we read, especially those thorny, dramatic parts.

But it also knows how to make us relieve at the same time, with those 'HAHAha' comedy. (Look at the chibi annoying Ryuji and you'll can't help but laughing)

This is a plus.

Third, the most important (well, for me), it has crazily heavy jealousyyy (Yay!!). Ok, so Ryuji is the craziest jelly monster I've ever known. Haha, he gets jealous so easily, even with those strangers.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Ah, I just write this in order to read those parts again someday.
Jealousy corners for pervs like me

Let's see, he got jealous when
- a male teacher talked so closely to Tsukasa (haha, he's just a little little side character, yet he still gets jelly) (even asked 'why were you so close w the teacher?)
- she cares so much about the Abasa or whatever kun
- over a policeman, ah yep, Akira-san.
I really 'haizzz'ed when Akira is the only man who truly loves her but does not receive enough attention...
and hey, when Ryuju is 'hand in hand' with Asago (maybe in chap 15 to 40), Tsukasa and this policeman get on so well together, yet Ryuju will never know about this (imagine if someone tells him about this). Tsukasa like, has held his hand, kissed him on the cheek, said 'I'll always be by your side' and even let him meet her family (to tutor her). Akira even thinks that he will meet her family approaching to a marriage :>...
Come to think that it's not Ryuju but Akira to be the first man she kissed makes me feel sastified (look what you have done, Ryuju, hugs and kissed and intimated with another woman in front of her). Hmph, he deserves it (say it both for Ryu and Aki)
-over the sexy long black man.
Haha, he even hugged and ripped off her clothes and left hickeys on her body and Ryuju will never see it. (Common, you had left her you badstard Ryu)

Okay, I can feel the 'ehehe' perv excitation in me whenever i see those jealousy .. wish i could describe it to you guys.

The only problem is,

their AGEs! Ha, 14😕😕? What shit is this...? But it's manga so I guess we shouldn't really care about the age problem, LOOK is everything.

And I don't really mind the art style. Their clothes may look a bit old-fashioned. But it's better and better than millions of other latest mangas and manhuas and manhwas and romances out there.

The plot (and the jelly) have covered everything.

All I can say is, it's not exaggerating to say, this is a masterpiece.

PS: Compares this to Skip Beat and Please Save My Earth, in the category of 'old' and 'longs' series, I right now prefer this. This is my bias.

I think, moreover, the author has put her heart and soul in to this work. It just doesn't feel like those cheap stories out there. It is the product of hard work and grey matter. It is worth to be praised and appreciated! This is what true manga, true art is.

What to say more, the sensitive scences are just suitably enough.

The side characters like Asago and Kamo-san also have their own touching satisfying stories.

Tokyo Crazy Paradise is my favorite manga. Tsukasa is a strong heroine that values family and friends, has a strong moral code, and a great sense of humor. Her story is action-packed and hilarious, and truly one-of-a-kind. Would highly recommend.

This manga is amazing to say the least. Iv'e lost count on how many times I have read this series. Tsukasa is not your average shoujo lead, she is strong, reliable and happens to be one of my favorite heroines that I've come across. Definitely a must read. Only setback to this series is that the art is not great, but I hope you can get past that because the plot and characters are worth it.

After the years I've been hearing praise for this classic, I finally read it and... while a fun read and good for a massive marathon sitting, it wasn't quite as amazing as I'd expected it to be. The plot is all over the place and it's hard to keep track of what's happening - characters fall by the wayside to be forgotten until 50 chapters later when the mangaka suddenly remembers they existed and chapter arcs end without proper resolution. More often than not, it doesn't even end; the manga just moves on to another plot line and you figure out that the arc must've ended. And while Ryuji and Tsukasa's romance started off with great promise and really heated up for a while, the Ayago obstacle dragged for far too long and the original promise is never fulfilled - rather, the romance just settles down and all the sparks fizzle. I still enjoyed the story, but I was left with a distinct sense that I wasn't satisfied.

I absolutely adore this manga. For one it's interesting to see the style change from the authors older works to the art in the beginning of skip beat. taking place somewhere in the future the author didn't do that bad because it's their take on future possibilities in a dystopian society, further more because this is an old work it's always kind of funny to see how different life is currently that how it is depicted.

The characters do get some character change Ryugi's was how he became less stoic he was still mostly stoic but he showed more emotion through the chapters. Tsukasa's was how she matured.
What I mostly liked about this is how the female lead was an equal to the male lead and not a sobbing hypocrite or fakely strong(in which the book tells me she's strong but the male lead still over takes her in power making it seem like she's weak and I was lied to). When she did fight there was times she save ryugi and times he saved her. In regards to this ryugi was nothing to scuff at either. He was cool and no weaker than the female lead which made it interesting.

My dislike of this series is the age. It says they are 14 they look 18. However this fact is easily looked over until they bring it up again. Also the translations because the translators did not traslate a couple of pages within the last few chapters which strongly bothers me.

All in all this is my absolute favorite. It has a high chance to be reread and loved.
