Description

Set in an Eastern fantasy backdrop, It's a love story entailing beautiful men in a rare and obsessive BL romance. Yeo-dam’s life has revolved around the emperor. The emperor made sure that not only would Yeo-dam’s family and friends never be a part of his life, but that Yeo-dam would be mentally and physically crippled so as never to leave him. In spite of this – or perhaps because of this – Yeo-dam feels that the death that befalls the emperor is undeserved. As a pontifice to the goddess Hwi-seon, he is allowed one wish in exchange for his life and he chooses to use it on the emperor. But the goddess feels it was the emperor’s actions on Yeo-dam that was undeserved and she returns Yeo-dam back into his original life as a child, but with a twist: he has the gift of divine powers.

It was a bit rough around the edges, but I really enjoyed it. I think turning a novel into a manhwa is quite difficult, and although I have seen better adaptions, I think this one wasn’t bad. It was a bit confusing here and there, and I didn’t really understand a few things about their past before the rebirth, but that didn’t strongly affect my overall enjoyment.

And yes, it is shounen ai, although very slightly more explicit. I personally enjoy series that have an actual plot over ones that are just constant smut without much else, so I wouldn’t dock points just because it’s shounen ai.

I actually put off reading this one for a while because I’m not super into abusive characters being “redeemed” just because they start treating the mc like an actual person. But this isn’t exactly that, it’s more complicated, and the ml is not like that in the new life. Also, not excusing his behavior in the previous life, but his culture as a Jin is very different from humans, so a lot of it was due to a lack of understanding. So even if you usually avoid these types of plots, I’d say it’s worth reading.

That was absolutely not my taste. It reads like a children's book, everything is explained down to the smallest detail. There is hardly any interaction until chapter forty. The characters are clearly neglected here. Instead of MC Yeo-dam's endless self-thoughts, the author should have included flashbacks.
No tension, no real flow. In addition, the author has to mention that it is a Shounen Ai until Chapter 70. They don't even show a kiss, but two pecks are shown. If I had known earlier as a Yaoi fan, I wouldn't have read this. There's no Yaoi to be found in the side story either, but you can rest assured since I watched the original Korean... you didn't miss anything. Because even uncensored they are either genderless and if something is shown it is not worth watching. The artist apparently has no experience with this type of drawing.

Redemption story done right

The ML was trash in his past life but after rebirth he actively tried to change himself with the help of Yeo-dam (accidentally without his knowledge and intention). The Emperor tried to be a better person and had the desire to actually atone for past actions.

What I like about these was

the emperor was motivated to change his wicked ways not because of his past memories (which he will recall later) but by his love for Yeo-dam.
The emperor started from -100 points where he is completely hated by Yeo-dam without knowing anything.
I don't want characters that only changed because they feel guilty and regret for their past actions.
And I like how the Emperor completely got his memories back later where Yeo-dam already love and forgive him and he already changed as a better man.
