Icky adaptation

I'm no stranger to modern Dororo adaptations and settings. "Dororo Bon" has a modern setting. So does Kaneko Atsushi's wonderfully weird "Search and Destroy." The movie novelization's setting is a post-apocalyptic future. I liked all of these to a greater or lesser degree (though "Dororo Bon" is problematic for several reasons), but I don't like this one at all. I give it two points for the quality of the art, but gallows for everything else.

Hyakkimaru's quest is incomplete, so he's hunting down demons for body parts. Dororo (reincarnated as a blonde bimbo who cries a lot) has one of them. Fans of the original Tezuka manga might recognize this as an ending Tezuka scrapped for being too cruel. I'd actually be happy if this Hyakkimaru killed this weaksauce Dororo, but it ain't gonna happen because the authors *ship them* instead. Ick! No other licensed adaptation does this, not even Dororo and Enma-kun, the porn parody. It can be argued that The Legend of Dororo and Hyakkimaru does this, too (in a will-they-or-won't-they kind of way), but at least Hyakkimaru's general air of asexuality is preserved there. The authors of Dororo Re:Verse sexualize both characters to an alarming degree, and the manner in which it is done is insulting to the characters.

There's also a random death and reincarnation of a dog? Most of the backstory is familiar but the setting is utterly confusing and there is no worldbuilding to speak of. (I'm currently on chapter 9, roughly 1000 pages/panels in). I can't recommend this to anyone, but least of all Dororo fans. I'll still read it for the train wreck aspect of it all and because I owe it to the characters I love to stand as witness to this terrible crime against them, but no one else should have to suffer through it.
