EDIT: I finally read Berserk. I can see why people made the comparison. For my analysis, check out http://forums.animesuki.com/showpost.php?p=1351679&postcount=17 . I believe that I wrote objectively and in-depth about the similarity between these two manga that has apparently become such a major issue to people who are commenting on these series.

Wow. I love this manga. Normally, fantasy manga just take a few particular cliches aspects of fantasy as a wrapper for a show with characters & plot that are very close to non-fantastic storylines. But all the reviews for this one were so high, I decided I'd check it out.

The art is nice. The characters and objects of the world are drawn uniquely, and the action scenes are drawn in a way which makes me wish I could see them animated. The ecchi is /very/ ecchi, it's almost like smut. (Koinzell is a real player....) And on that note, his character is also very complex. We come to understand his motivations a bit, but still, his behavior is far from 1D--at times he's a bit awkward, at times kind, in battle deadpan and sometimes also frantic. His behavior also kinds of throws you off since... he's so small, like a pre-teen boy really.

The pace is nice, the interactions are (so far) all completely unrepetitive, there have been no random irrelevant hold-ups in the plot--there's zero feeling of "same old, same old" as you read it (it's fantasy/adventure in a hostile world, but it's very different from formulaic plot progression like you see in Immortal Rain, Kurohime, etc.).

5 volumes are out so far, eh... Volume 0's plot developments went by especially quick, but Volume 1 Chapter 1 clearly takes it time more, so I'm not sure how far this series will extend. I hope 30 volumes, over which the plot of the series changes constantly with new relevations like it did at the end of Volume 0, to reveal as many different aspects of the fictional world of Ubel Blatt (what does that mean anyway?) as possible. 😀

It's not very far scanlated yet, but since I can change my vote later I'll put in a 10 for now.

yall kinda exaggerating there, the manga is is very good. i know there are some sex scenes but thats only in the begining of the story. And again in stories tht are base in time like this, it is expected to always have those kind of thing and sometime even worse.

It doesnt tell much in the begingn of the manga, for u to really understand this manga u have to like read a good thew chapter so that u can understand the manga and get some few interesting point on it.

And again having a manga base on vengeance is good some time. i kinda have enough of those heros shit they some time always have.

Anyway that a good manga except for some few scenes that were a little exaggerating the fighting scene but other than that the story seems to be going very good.

Well i read it to the latest release and it got me going somewhat..
Wasn't that spectacular but was able to hold my interest, i guess it can show more meat the plot is unoriginal well all manga is not original its been copy and copy over time... But I hope it become a deeper storyline... Please don't end by getting his revenge...BORING

Nice. Not so much liking the sex with random women at the beginning and the fact that Puuchi (that's her name, right?) is a tiny little girl made to look like a freaking slut. Other than that...truly awesome. Love the action, suspense, and cool plot. The main character's personality isn't so bad either, but I keep wondering what'll happen to him after his 'revenge' is over? Just fall down and die or something? Moving on, the art is great too- serious props to the mangaka! Thanks scanlators, can't wait for more.

I find this book interesting because 1. The art is cute and clean 2. The main character is cute and his back story (even though over used) 3. it's simple and an easy read for me. I'm not really looking for a book that's deep with a lot of meaning, just something simple and sweet which is what Ubel Blatt is. It goes by smooth enough without wasting a lot of time and also not going too fast. Fighting scenes are long enough but not too long. It pretty much explains everything in the first few chapters, what your pretty much doing is watching how he gets his revenge. Overall it's a good read, it may not be the most original story but the art is cute and so is the main character. I rate it 8 for art plus the fact it eased my boredom.

Sure, Berserk is a good manga but that's not a reason to compare each and every fantasy action stuff with the MIURA Kentaro work (reminds of people who compare each and every mecha anime with Evangelion, although a fan of E. myself I find such behaviour foolish).

There's already lot's of good stuff said about that manga, so I won't bother adding praise for this work (for now)... It just 'clicks' with me, a picky old bastard who read a lot of different mangas of various genres and art styles.

You may like Übel Blatt for what it is or you may not, but it's surely not a copy or rip-off of something, so please no B vs UB flame wars.

P.S. Let me dispel some misunderstandings that irk me:
*Ugly enemies - blatant lie: see v0c2, the lady with a harem of young boys. Most men (even evil guys) aren't ugly ether, there's a couple of old farts and ultrabuff freaks but that's it.
*Sex (rape) and gore -- neither are really graphic, violence is mostly your standard mature fantasy manga level, as I've seen a lot of grotesque and unpleasant stuff in Seinen\Historical manga I hope you'll take my word on this one. Plus there's only one brief 'rape' scene so far, per n sex scenes.

Thou quite cliched and a pretty generic seinen, I have to say it's been an enjoyable read so far, MC story is the classic revenge but it's at least interesting and the MC may appear shallow but he isn't, thou he's not a great character he's not a bad one. Also, fight are good as is the art-style thou I can't say the fights or powers of the characters are very consistent.
If you like berserk then this is a good alternative while waiting, of course, it's not remotely as good but it's a good enough read.

Very well drawn, but very convoluted

Make no mistake this is a great read, but the story slowly but surely becomes complicated and complex with political maneuvering, betrayals, rogue military units, a fracturing military empire and a 500 ton elephant in the room that the story has yet to address. Thats not necessarily a bad thing, but it can be disjointing when you consider the fact that the story starts off as a mere badass-returned-from-the-grave, revenge story.

In short, this is a Berserk knockoff with more focus on larger scaled battles and political dealing/backstabbing.

The manga is entertaining due to its fast pace and pretty good art, but the characters are extremely shallow and annoying in comparison to other seinen manga(I'm not gonna list them here as they've been mentioned countless times already by other commenters).
