Tomodachi no Hanashi

Description

Eiko and her best friend Moe couldn't be more different: Eiko is a shy, average-looking girl while Moe is beautiful and envied by everyone at their high school. Though their personalities are total opposites, the bond between them is incredibly strong. Moe might have an endless supply of suitors, but when it comes to actually dating them, she has a condition: her boyfriend must value Eiko more than he does Moe. No one has yet been able to meet her condition—not until a boy named Tsuchida appears, at least. What will Eiko do when her relationship with her best friend begins to change?

My favorite manga ever!!!

I sort of see what people mean when they say that Moe's and Eiko's relationship is creepy and too much, but I really cannot agree with that.

The manga is very deep, it looks at many important aspects of life. Finding a great friend like that is hard and you will definitely cherish that friend very much. Since the characters are on two extremes of a spectrum it is generally not really possible to compare the manga to real life.

Also, from the background stories their close bond makes perfect sense and they are not at all too close and creepy, there is nothing lesbian going on. I mean I don't know how many times me and my best friends propose to each other or tell each other that it would be awesome if one of us could be a guy because then we would totally go out. It's a joke in a sense, but in another sense we mean it. We don't have romantic feelings but we really love each other and each others company, so I wouldn't mind spending the rest of my life with them! 😉

Some people say it doesn't make sense that Moe tells the guys who ask her out to also take care of Eiko, but it totally does. Imagine yourself in her shoes, being pretty to the point where practically every guy who sees you ask you out. How are you supposed to tell who actually cares about you, and who just likes your looks? Somebody who was willing to also be there for Eiko would be way more likely to be a good guy who actually cares about you. I wouldn't set this criteria myself, but if I was in Moe's situation I most probably would have.

Plus, she does point out that she would only settle for a guy who is just as sweet and caring as Eiko. I don't find that weird at all, I often compare my closest and bestest of friends to new people I meet, and I would not settle for a boyfriend who was less of a great person than they are. He doesn't have to be the same of course, but I would have to feel just as close to and like him just as much at least, otherwise it's a no no.

Lastly, it is not strange that Moe gets angry at Tsuchida and dumps him that time. He was in the wrong in making a move at her when she was being worried about Eiko. It might have been a bit farfetched from her side, but she still barely knew him, and that made his comments not acceptable. Had he cared enough about Moe he should have been able to see her feelings and known that that was not the right moment. However, he seemed like a really nice guy after all, and he did learn his lesson and seem to take to heart what Moe had said, so I think he sorta deserves a second chance. Especially since he was so down during the rest of the manga, that was probably one of the most painful things throughout the manga, because he never really seemed happy again. Also, I think they would probably make a good couple. Plus, he probably has a bigger chance now actually when his best friend is dating Moe's best friend, so I'll hold my fingers crossed! 😉
Of course Eiko's little brother is a pretty great guy too ^^

I wish it could have been a tinsy bit longer though, since I really would have loved to see Moe find someone as well! ^^

I liked the premise from the start. Eiko and Moe are both immensely likeable, as well as the male leads. The art is different from the standard shoujo pictures. The lines are fluid and whimsical, a perfect match with the story. The colour pages are a great bonus. The plot is simple, short and sweet. It never delves into needless cliches and it always stays true to its main point.

It's like ice cream, and baby elephants.

Awesome manga. So realistic, deep, fresh, free of cliches. I loved it and couldn't tell what will happen next. Wasn't bored at all. The art is cool too.

I think manga like this can make the reader a better person. It touches some very important subjects. It's great how the POV switches, we get to see how judgemental and wrong people can be in how they read others. All four main characters are good people but some of their traits can make them seem otherwise - for those who don't bother to look deeper. Each of them learns an important lesson, I think. Readers do too (at least I did 🙂 )

Love this series! It may only be 2 chapters, but it is seriously adorable. What really shines are the relationships - the first chapter focuses on the two main girls, Eiko and Moe, and the second chapter is voiced by Tsuchida's (the guy who dates Moe in the first chapter) best friend. Him and Tsuchida also have a really good friendship. Both of the friendships are based off the opposites-attract idea, where each admires the other and so get along really well.

While nothing is very complicated or angsty in this manga, that's what makes it so great. It's short and to the point. But what I like best is how pure it is. The relationships are real and there's thankfully no backstabbing involved. The characters are fun and distinct, despite the manga's shortness. And the art is also really nice; it's distinctive and characters actually have different facial features, instead of the same cute face, big eyes, with only different hair styles to tell them apart.

Definitely worth a read. It won't take long anyway.

Just two chapters but this one is amazing. I hesitated at first but then decided to give it a try. I couldn't have been more right in my life. Because of the phrase "Only if you promise to put Eiko before me", I thought this would be a weird manga, I can't believe the author solves it too well. It's amazing. You should read it, you won't be disappointed. Trust me <3 <3

I've only read the first chapter of this series, but I'm already deeply in love with it! It's so incredibly CUTE! The art is slightly original (with a lot of bonus colored pages 😀 ), but it's the story that makes it so very nice. It's about the strong friendship between two girls, and how they put each other before anything else. It's a very simple plot, but that's what makes it so lovely.

Fluffy, warm and enjoyable. The scanlation group has done a great job too.

When I first read the summary, te part where Moe says "put Eiko before me" I was thinking, huh? So you want your friend to date your boyfriend? Boyfriend care more for your friend than yourself? ...well, I misunderstood and due to that, this manga put me down, I set it aside for months and who knew comes the day I'll be reading it and now I've have finished it, and it turned out way better than I thought it would be, it shows how nice and caring Eiko and Moe are to each other, in their own interesting way and how strong their bond is, so much so that in the beginning it felt like some yuri thing, crazy~ and the guy's friendship too, very strong. The story also shows how people usually see the outer appearance rather than what's inside ze heart~ but then there'll always be some people that'll understand you for who you are. Plus this manga has funny parts and parts where it gives off lovey dovey feeling. Well overall it was wonderful spectacular magnificent storytelling and artwork ^_^ honestly speaking from the bottom of my heart.

The girls' relationship may seem too close for some people, but I think it really works for them due to their personalities. One girl is brutally honest while the other can't seem to stand up for herself; so, when you have these two girls as best friends, we get a nice equilibrium.

The way the girls say things to their boyfriends like "you have to treat my best friend more importantly than me" is weird, but if they do find a man like that---they know they've got the right guy. So in that case, I think it's adorable how much these two treasure their friendship.

Also, I don't get that shoujo-ai feeling from this series, thank god. The girls just love one another as best friends who are always there for them, and I think that's sweet. Because this manga dealt with friendship, there wasn't nearly as much cliche scenarios as other shoujo manga. Yay!

(the extra story at the end was pretty cute too hehehe)

And the best part? This manga is pretty short-- so we get to enjoy a masterpiece that entertains but doesn't drag for a long time! I'd recommend this to anyone!

The very first thing that striked me was the art. It was delicate, and like some comment below, resembled Sahara Mizu's. If it had been Kawahara sensei doing both the art and story, maybe I wouldn't love this manga as I do now, Yamakawa sensei's drawing was just exactly like how the story was: strange, fresh and delicate. I really love how Moe put Eiko above her boyfriend - how the story put friendship above love. It's something you rarely see in real life. I ,myself, having experienced the time when my best friend had a boyfriend and completely forgot about me, deeply impressed by Moe. Even the ending, which I dare say that it's not just me who expect a hug, a kiss or at least the holding hands, was still steadfast to its theme - friendship.
I'm really looking forward to reading another work from the partnership of these two mangakas.

This is amazingly executed, unique, and incredibly cute! The drawing style is reminiscent of Sahara Mizu with clean lines and flowing movements, and the plot is great with one pair's relationship tying into another's. Kudos to etc as well for doing such a great job (especially on translations!) 😀 Everything is amazing 🙂
