I have to say this one is one of the better works of Watase Yuu, probably only because of the ending. I don't really like or enjoy her works, but I like her gag jokes which are found in the whole manga and her other works as well. But that's the only good point about it. It was an average shoujo for me; maybe a bit worse that average, but I liked the jokes and the ending.
The story
Riiko is whining about not having a boyfriend at age 16(?), getting constantly rejected by everybody. The manga starts with one rejection, a funny one too.
Desperate, she ends up ordering a boyfriend through the internet. This boyfriend is perfect. Nice, handsome, knows everything and is really really sweet to her. The problem is that Riiko tends to forget that Night is just a figure.
Some troubles follow: money, bullying, other unexpected boyfriend candidates and we get out with a very usual but not so usual as Night was a robot, love triangle with her neighbor and childhood friend Soushi. And that's the story.
What made this manga bad was Riiko getting in situations, conversations and thoughts about her losing her virginity. There were so much of these scenes I would say it was smut, if I didn't read a smut manga before. I could live without these parts, thanks.
Art
Art was fine. I've seen better, but for an average shoujo it was enough. Good proportioned bodies and such. It was easy to tell the characters apart, but that could be because of the extras: hair color, glasses....
Characters
The only thing worse than the story were the characters. Let's start with Night, the perfect boyfriend, as he didn't have a difficult character. He was perfect, jealous, but didn't let it show at himself. I always suspected he never really loved Riiko, as he was made for loving the girl that kisses him. And that's what Riiko did. I never saw him as a human.
Riiko wasn't that weak as other shoujo heroines, but she was clumsy and a bit stupid. Then Soushi, her childhood friend, the typical shoujo hero: perfect, can cook, is funny, cares, bishounen...... I pitied him a bit. He should go for somebody else than Riiko. I still can't get it, why he did what he did at the end. Although he could tell her sooner that he likes her. What a chicken.
I also didn't like that everyone was a good person, not considering what they did. For one thing, Riiko gets bullied one time. And at the end, she saves the bully and even says sorry. Come on girl, it's normal to get angry. For another, there are her parents. They are never home. She is minor for god's sake. and then they come home and her father is against Night of course. And father still thinks he has a right to say anything in her life. You failed as a parent, deal with it. Riiko can't rebel at all. I don't remember seeing her angry for herself.
Enjoyment
no. A bit just for the jokes, it was also readable so nothing horrible. I remember when I read it first time, I actually liked it. Good thing it was so short.
I think that Night's death was for the best. He never was human, even if he thought so. It would feel uncompleted if he stayed with Riiko till the end. Soushi came back to her and I really really liked that. Although - poor Soushi. I never could forgive her. She left him after all. But I still take it as his happiness so it's okay. Many people dislike the tragedy, but it definitely increased my rating.
