The data on the manga is slightly incorrect: There are 2 volumes and 1 chapter to start the 3rd volume was released in a magazine (total 16 chapters). Then Asato-sensei set it aside. She did create a DJ: Private Love Affair (unscanlated).
This yaoi manga has a fabulous plot! It's not a completely original plot, but it is so well woven and engaging that it is worth the read, even though Asato-sensei left her readers on a cliff hanging before deciding to abandon this work. It's a great prompt for a fanfic-er's imagination as to where it would go...
The magical-history element lent to beautiful costumes and mysterious spells. That was original: why the prince was punished with his curse.
Their relationship develops gradually, convincingly and touchingly as the selfish Prince begins to understand just exactly how selfless and beautiful Karou really is. The only problem is that the deeper their relationship gets, the less panels are spent on intimacy. (It never is explicit; rather, more shounen ai-esque). It becomes mostly fade-to-black type 2-panel scene.
There is a host of intriguing secondary characters and subterfuge is to be had around every corner! Karou's, the little honest uke, has a personality that really shines. He's not stupid, but he believes the best.
The art has great character contrast: some are all loose lines and swishes and others are solid, dark, bold lines. All of them have dimension and emotion. And when the Prince comes to life, it's simply, but beautifully drawn.
And you know what? It's funny too!
If Asato-sensei starts this one up again, I'll definitely be buying it!
