At first, it might seem like one of those classic revenge stories where someone who is discarded by her family finds her own success, screws them over, rubs her superiority in their faces, and leaves them wallowing in their regret...
But that won't last long. Ultimately this is a story about suffering.
It just devolves into a dark and depressing story about people plotting against one another, neglecting friendships, abusing family, brainwashing the vulnerable, kidnapping, murder, and outright evil acts of dark magic.
A new villain will arise, and much of the drama, animosity, and evil plots will stem from misunderstandings.
The broken family will ultimately turn out to result from one person's unethical selfish act that will ruin everyone's relationships with one another despite none of the others bearing any fault.
Everything will eventually be resolved, and some form of closure reached, but not before EVERYONE in this story has to endure their fair share of suffering.
No-one will make it out the other side without some form of PTSD.
This story is neither light, nor happy. It might be for you if you enjoy drama, but certainly not if you're hoping laugh, relax, or improve your mood.
Also, it fails to scratch that karma itch that one might have picked up a revenge sorry for:
Too many innocent people had to suffer. Too many victims had to die. The main villain leaves a huge trail of death and destruction and pays no price other than meeting her end after slipping away multiple times to go kill some more. Her co-conspirators and underlings get off lightly while the people she used faced harsh punishments or end up dead.
And the person who created the situation for the original "revenge" suffered the least of them all.
It has that aspect of realism that life is unfair, and that crime and punishment are not always proportional - but that makes it feel like it failed to deliver on it's premise.
