This manga is the story of Dragonball retold with chibi characters. The fights are very very abbreviated, and sagas are skipped. I think that it's meant to be a cute nostalgic reminder for older fans of the original series, and nothing more. If you want to experience the epicness that is Dragonball, read the original series, and read this 10 years afterwards.
WOW - this is really, really bad

When I first saw this, I was excited 'cos I thought they might create some new adventures for the characters - like, say, let's examine what could have happened BETWEEN the different episodes that DB fans all know so well by now.
Well, instead, what you get is the SAME STORY retold with big modifications / simplifications, none of which seem inspired or anything but generic. Kind of like how DB would have turned out if Toriyama had passed original the project to bottom-of-the-barrel manga artists and writers instead of doing it himself.
In general, it seems like this manga was written for people who don't have the mental fortitude to read the original DB - it's like the Cliff Notes for the student that's hoping to get a basic idea of DB in 10x fewer chapters. "Reading manga is soooo tiring - can't you make it less hard for me?"
Above all, there is no soul in this - it feels dead and generic. If Toriyama was involved, it can't have been much more than cashing in a big fat check for using his name. Shame on him for not caring more about his creation, IMO.
The quality of the drawings in particular is quite shocking: this is 100x below Toriyama's level, which artists have had decades to learn from and emulate. How on earth did they pick this artist?

This isn't crap! Those who say it is are mistaking it for something else!
This is CHOCOLATE! HOLY GLORIOUS CHOCOLATE! SWEET SWEET CHOCOLATE!
I've been waiting for a new release of "Dragonball" for a very long time. And knowing that this manga is supervised by Akira Toriyama brings me joy! It's funny and cool how fast this story is going to be. I hope we get to see all the other DB characters like Bulma, Chichi, Piccolo and many others! The pace that this manga is going (Goku doing the "Kamehamaha Wave" in chapter one) makes me hope we get to the tournament quickly and meet future characters and watch Goku become older again and face Vegeta and all the other DBZ characters. I'll be looking forward to this.
