The perfect shounen mystery series

I like Detective Conan, but I love Q.E.D. I love that the author has clearly actually been to (or at least researched) foreign countries and draws sympathetic non-Japanese characters, including non-white ones. The main characters seem like real people (a rarity for mystery manga), and the cases are varied and complex. I like the level of scientific detail included, though it can be a little hard to read if your Japanese isn't so good.
A rare 10 from a picky Person

If you think this goes nowhere then Conan, Kindaichi and virtually every other detective manga are guilty too (during much of its life, usually only change nearing completion).
With this at least the characters are being developed and really good at that albeit slowly (you could tell how Touma definitely but slowly began to change over the course of the series, thing I never feel on Conan or Kindaichi), this has the effect of seemingly boring but I never feel that way whenever I read this manga and the characters keep growing on me.
Also this one does not exclusively revolve around murder and dead body, in fact as the series progress there are more and more interesting and/or quirky case with equally interesting resolution and trivia involving broad range of subjects other mystery series could only touch the surface.
As a whole one could regard this as a slice of life with a lot of interesting mystery and twist on it, both done very well. IMO, this is one the best in its genre.

as a mystery manga, Q.E.D. is a unique one.
This manga, like some have said before, is not all about murder on every case. don't get mistaken though, I feel that some of these cases are the best xD ( I absolutely love the school's mystery club, these guys are hilarious).
it maybe lacking in term of character development or relationship development in particular, but I think that the lead pair are cute that way. I always think that they actually care for each other whether they are aware of that or not.
Another thing about this series is that the author likes developing the cases based on a science theories (mostly mathematics, but I have seen also economics and historical facts) and provide us with a brief explanation to the theory (this happen on 1 of 2 cases on every comic books). There were times when I got really confused by it lol, but fear not, even if you skip it you can still enjoy reading this.

To be honest, I feel that a kind of injustice is being done to this manga with the comments. I suppose it depends on what you're looking for in manga, but in a detective/mystery manga I expect and am looking for mysteries that are solved. QED delivers this and there's no big fuss about anything.
Interesting

I really like both the leads here. While the male lead is certainly smart, the proactiveness of the female lead is also nice. The mysteries are intriguing and some of the cases are really thought provoking. My personal favorite is probably ch.53 burden of proof, because it shows the male lead's personality through and through.
I love how well known the male lead is in certain circles. Even though he may not be famous, he's quite respected by the people who matter.

because I think every of detective manga out there has their own charm.
Well, as for myself... I've read Conan, Kindaichi, C.M.B, DDS or you may say almost all big title of detective that published in my place^^. But maybe Q.E.D is the most brilliant detective manga for me. I really like how the case is not draggy and over with one book, how the explanation make sense and makes me confuse * u *) , I really like how deep (sometimes) the case is presented.
Of course, unlike C.M.B, Q.E.D is more serious but I can't help it. I'm more deeply in love with Toma and Kana. And I really like whenever Q.E.D x C.M.B ^^ Reading how their own point of view sure makes me feel asdfghjdfghj wow! But again, Toma is my favourite whenever it happen ^ o ^ //brickd

Hmm... some reviewers are really amazing. They seems can crack some mysteries in this series and truly do research on QED materials, miss/mr. enaikelt for example, while I'm not. I'm just go read and stumbled on the awesomeness of QED (well, I'm just a pure-hearted boy maybe...)
I personally like the various cases which are provided by QED - not only murder and murder. Why? While murder case only provide an insight about modus operandi which is often useless and unpractical in society, a non-murder-case can provide an insight which is practical and seems-cool-to-be-understood, and QED provide many of it.
But well, I still read only 12 volumes, I hope it will get interesting and more variety cases comes out...

as far as detective story go, it's okay. the evidence is just too shaky any good lawyer can overturn it, if only the culprit don't start confessing after the ball is dropped. and ya know, there are alot of child murderers lol...quite unrealistic. and i just can't accept important organization like the cia or a government seemed so careless...
the character faces all seem to blend together, interchangeable. it can't be help that there are different character for every case, but at least different hairstyle, but even that cannot be managed. somehow i am always irritated with mizuhara. she is just too airheaded, too stubborn, too genki for me. and too many abuse. if i was touma i would sue the ass out of her.
but good point for including variety of cases, not just murders. even if i say a lot of bad points, it is still worth reading, because sometimes the case, the notes, the additional info is quite interesting.

This thing is good but also bad
the cases and characters are all interesting
but this manga doesn't have main plot, or even recurring antagonist, it can goes on forever but that's the bad thing
The weirdest thing is even after solving 60+ cases (in vol 35 now), some even in global scale, HE NEVER GOT FAMOUS!!
He never become a famous detective or anything, so his character traits never change from the 1st volume! He is always an MIT graduate and a high school student
Even after helping the police dozens time, he is never asked to help solving a crime, all his cases are either coincidently stumbling on a case or his friends from university ask for help.
There was also no explanation of what happened after a case, criminal got caught by deduction and that's it, was the news published on newspaper or any media is never known.
so we can summary all story in qed like this :
Coincidently stumble in a case > solved the case > bad guy got caught > done
most story goes like that and there is almost no relation between cases at all.
first time around it was interesting, then it's just bizarre and stoopid,
This is far cry from Conan and Kindaichi, figures...
edit : CMB is more interesting, and evolved version of QED

I've only read the first volume. The cases are certainly interesting, and I really like the characters. BUT the killers rely far too much on an incredible amount of coincidence and on everyone doing the right thing at the right time, stuff they could never have predicted. It's not believeable at all! I hope it gets better as the author gets a better grip on what he's doing.
