Description

From Tokyopop:
Sato Tatsuhiro is a drug-addled "hikikomori" (a Japanese shut-in) who thinks a sinister organization, NHK (Nihon Hikikomori Kyoukai), is the cause of all his problems! He falls in love with a girl, Misaki, who he thinks is trying to assassinate him, but doesn't know how to talk to her or if he can trust her. The more he stays in his house watching anime porn, reading manga, and doing drugs, the harder it is for him to leave. Only Misaki can keep him from rotting away in his own apartment!

Wished for a different ending

The first 6 volumes where pretty good, Then it kinda just fell off. I wish it would of been more of him getting cured and really falling in love with the girl. The last 2 volumes felt rushed and loose.

8/10 even with crappy ending.

The way Sato is. I mean I've felt like I don't wanna do anything. (I think I spent a whole year without doing anything at all ._. just on the pc, eating, drinking, being with myself, not with my "friends" and stuff...So I'm feeling something while readin' it. =)

at my parents house for the holidays, and i stayed up all night reading this in one shot. just to have them wake up and yell at me for not having a job. i had a good laugh at the irony.

read it. its entertaining and very funny at parts

The anime ending was not satisfying but it was way better than the manga. I have re-watched the anime version many times already, but I don't think I can re-read the manga version. Some last chapters are just so bad they left a bad taste in my mouth. The characters was likeable through the first half of the manga, but they do unnecessary things and become unreasonable in the later chapters. Like, almost all of them. I started reading this manga because how much I like the anime, but now I can only feel regret.

The story
not really a story. A hikikomori guy gets "saved" by a girl. But I don’t think he was even a hiki. the brother of the chairman was though. He was just a lazy guy with social phobia. Misaki was a terrible person. In the beginning though, things were more careless and funny and the characters were even likeable, but near the end, there came the melodrama and the last volume was really confusing, the ending wasn’t good. The dark humor was the best part of the manga, but there wasn’t so much of it later on.

Art
Art was good and I think the first volumes were better drawn than later ones. Might be my imagination because I didn’t enjoy last volumes. Actually it was one of the better arts I saw in manga. Not completely awesome, but great.

Characters
The trash of the society but still on the line of likeable. My favorite was Yamazaki. Misaki was the most f/cked up. she needs to see a psychiatrist, pronto. Satou wasn’t that terrible. Unless you count the drugs. All of the characters were miserable and depressed. I couldn’t really like those character, as soon as I started to like someone, they changed to even lower lowlife or they made something that made me angry.

Enjoyment
the beginning was much better than later volumes. Especially the ending was unsatisfying. The anime was better (at least what I remember). Had more humor what was a good point in the manga, but the last volumes forgot that.

I'm still giving it a high score, for it was original, also, the first volumes were great and the anime was good too. the last volume though...

The best word to describe this manga is 'irreverent'. From kiddy porn to popping pills to self-mutilation, no topics are sacred; the author approaches all with the same careless dark humour. The characters are self-loathing, selfish, angsty scum who you may like but probably won't - at any rate, you probably wouldn't want to take them out for coffee. The story reads as if the author was thinking 'fuck this' the whole time he was writing it and I think it's pretty good at what it tries to do. I did feel that the first 30-35 chapters were superior to the last 5-10. The story wanders near the end and the final character and relationship development aren't fleshed out. The ending itself was underwhelming, not the crazy spectacle I was hoping for but not terrible either.

I could give it 10 because I really loved it but... I don't feel like it. maybe it's the same as a teacher who can't help but find weaknesses in a test because they don't wanna give the best rate but really, it could have been even better. the ending could be more grand, I liked how it ended, no prob, but it felt like it was weak, it's there "just cause". some part could have been more developed. there were let downs here and there. but frankly speaking, this manga was over the average. it alternated between sad and funny sad-fun swiftly, you cuold just empathise with the protagonnists. probably the sadest manga after Saikano, but instead of giving a slow rythm that never allows you to let go, it had a changing rythm. it oscillated, making you feel just how connected every people were.
enough blabbering, read it, you won't be able to stop.

Funny or depressing?

That was really good, but I'm not sure how I feel about the shift in tone. The first 3-4 volumes were consistently hilarious. It was going to be the first manga for me to give a 10 to for comedy value - but as it went, it became more and more serious. Depressing, even. There's no change in the subject matter, just how it's presented. I think I would have preferred it to stay as it was - normally I'm all for misery, but in this case not so much.

My comment is really not impersonal, but I want to complain, because I gave too high expectatioin on the story itself and spent 6 hours on it.

I really liked the art, I enjoyed the portrait of the male lead in the latter half especially.
And I think I really liked the protagonist, the way he makes decisive decisions.
For these two reasons, I rated 7.5. The story itself, as for me, is a bit underdeveloped and unsystematic.

The plot for this manga could have been better, and I was nettled by some of the nonsenses which appeared at times; au contraire, some changes which could have been developed were settled too abruptly and roughly. And could there be any more coincidences?
The ending is really good... if it were a novel! ... but as a manga, it could have been better illustrated and it might be acceptable or be labeled as "laisser imaginer" for certain readers, but personally, I think it is just so so. Reread value is almost nil for me; because the whole story could have been much better organized.

The average 8.25 is a Just Judge, according to my experience. But I am shocked to have seen that there are quite few proportion of low ratings (3 votes for "1", 3 votes for "2"... up to now). No offense, I admit I have the potential to become an Hikikomori. - -
The ending is similar to some Korean movie I saw before, which I am sure most of you are familiar with.

LIKE ZORO SAID, ONE CAN HARDLY FIND THE REASON TO RECOMMEND IT..
Now that I think of it, the reason why there are many Hikikomori in Japan might be that there are so many these kinds of mangas which give them "hopes", however, they are knocked down into the deeper abyss of despair by the crude reality. I am sad. No idea why. This is a nice subject if it can be seriously helpful, but I am afraid it is just for the sake of entertaining.
