Annoying

This is the probably one of most annoying translation I've ever read. Worse of all it's intentional. Reason? Well the translators purposely leaves half the words in Japanese. For example instead of saying "Hey kid", they'll translate it as "Hey kozou*" + (*TL note at the end saying kozou = kid). As a result the TL note entries run in the hundreds every volume. Not to mention the countless onomatopoeias and grunts kept in Japanese that make everyone sound like idiots.

You know the "all according to keikaku" meme? Well it describes this ridiculous translation style perfectly.

Sad thing is, the story itself is not bad. The first couple of chapters didn't have this problem, and the translation was actually very good. So this is one of the few novels whose translation gets progressively worse instead of better.

An excellent light novel

First of all, if you don't like the anti-hero style of protagonist (and now i mean actual anti-hero, now the japanese version of it showing up in media which usually gets exported to the west which frankly very much isn't), wherein the protagonist behaves in ways often considered "bad" for no sake other then to benefit himself, i would well and truly not read this LN. The protagonist is quite often selfish for no reason other then to maximize his own benefit from a situation.

Now first of all, for my own opinion on the comments on the LN being pedophilic, him being portrayed as intelligent but not acting it, and him being a "douche" so to speak (which many have mentioned).

1. Whilst his little group consists of essentially always little girls (with the one guy added in every time as well except for the MC), there's no innuendo, no sexualization of their relationship in any way, and frankly the most romantic notion being mentioned in the LN is just it sometimes hinting at 1-2 of them having a crush on him, and all of this is way more then a giant majority of LNs

2/3. Saying he acts like a douche and saying he doesn't act intelligently is nearly exclusive in the context of this LN, as it is utterly and repeatedly expressed both outright, and hinted at, that most of his acts are simply to maximize his own gain from an encounter, or simply because he doesn't want to. He might not follow the absolutely ridiculous notion of intelligence that japanese media tends to subscribe to with the "sherlock holmes"esque deduction and flawless month long plans, but he sure as hell is intelligent, he can bend essentially every situation he's in to the most profitable one possible result for himself, and due to the fact that his behavior is a result of him essentially ignoring his emotions and being as profitable as possible in a world where that's mercenary, saying that he's selfish whilst still saying he's not intelligent is really really odd.

Overall i found it to be an excellent piece of writing, it had a good enough story but what i really enjoyed was the protagonist, he's a true mercenary (except possibly for the fact he almost always tries to make sure a deal he makes with someone be as profitable as possible for them as well) and apologizes in no way for it, i found the much more realistic depiction of what you would need to do to survive in an alternate world delightful (on a few occasions he chooses not to help people because he knows they have something he needs until they give it to him, and doesnt just rush in "Because we must help them!"), and i absolutely loved the fact that the only reason he's involved in the "main story" of the world itself, is because one of the key figures involved in it had something he wanted and traded it in exchange for assistance. In summary, a story driven by the protagonist who's a selfish pragmatist and feels no need to apologize for it, and makes a story based on a premise that's used quite alot impressively different from the piles and piles of tiny variations of the same bland premise and same bland protagonist.

P.S I'm on chapter 190 which is as of this posting the current chapter of the story (translated that is), and please post chapter if you do a review, without a note where you are your review is utterly useless and can be outright harmful

In the beginning the main character's power was the hook for me and seemed really interesting. What's more, he was an anomaly in the world he was summoned to so I was looking forward to him power-levelling and basically using his power to be awesome as heck.

I'm as far as 37 chapters in and I don't think I can take this anymore... I'm a little iffy with his character but that I could tolerate. I don't know if it's because of the fan translators or whatever but the flow of the story IS REALLY BAD. Having writing as a hobby myself, I can't stand that interactions between the MC and other characters or even his own actions itself are abrupt. All the way from the beginning when he was summoned and he was speaking out against the Emperor, everything was choppy. He's supposed to be really intelligent too but nothing ever hints towards that intellect in his thought process. As far as it goes, there isn't a single character I like in Konjiki no Moji Tsukai.

Well, maybe it's because I started KNMT after Overlord (which is an actual, absolute MASTERPIECE and really got me into reading light novels), I was really disappointed in the bad writing of this story... Now the issue is to find another light novel that can rival Overlord. I'll probably be reading Log Horizon afterwards but who knows how long it'll take to get to the part after the anime. Don't really like Akatsuki much too... :/

I first started liking the MC and the story a lot, but there are just lolis everywhere and he's kinda arrogant as fuck. I don't know why there has to be so much lolis and he has to act like he's hot shit. Every now and then I can deal with his attitude, but sometimes it's a bit too much. Like sometimes out of the blue he decides to a douche to everyone for a dumbass reason.

Some of you guys may disagree with my opinions on him, but that's how I truly feel about him. It's okay for the MC to be an anti-hero, but there's a difference between that and a douche.

Loli nightmare

Someone! PLS kill me!!! Too many lolis ><

Why cant the Japanese keep it in the pants? It started so well! First 30 chapters there was no indication for harem with the MC but then... loli harem over the top under age heroines. What's so wrong about moderation?
And that MC is so... is he supposed to be smart? Intelligent? Knowledgeable? He is going around acting like a hot potato in a way that if I had met him in real life I would have smacked him real hard. The worst part is that the world bend on his logic as if he is the smartest shit ever born.

Well I know that I bashed pretty badly the novel so far but if someone is wondering is it worthy to read actually the answer is yes. Aside from the obvious lack of solid character building for the MC, a lot of the scenes are entertaining. The plot isn't much but the writing style somehow makes it worth it. There are a lot of these unintentionally funny moment to look forward to.

Problem

I like the MC's character in Konjiki no moji tsukai. It's probably one of my favourite clichés of aloofness that a Japanese light novel may have.
I also have to say though, one thing that I am really glad about is the fact that although the MC gains a harem, there isn't too much action. I don't despise, but I pretty much dislike harems because it sometimes disturbs the plot in the story. If the relationships are non-disruptive, then sure, but sometimes it can feel like the author is trying to force many relationships on the MC to make the MC more 'popular' or something like that. I may be missing the point, but this is all I can think of now.
No offense intended to lovers of arifureta, but the reason I dropped it is because of the harem situation in it. It completely felt like that the girls were shoved on the MC, and the frequent show-off situations of the girls were kind of ticking me off. I'm really sorry to the author that I feel that way, but I can't stand those kind of harem situations.
I'm glad Konjiki no moji tsukai is currently still at a level I can stand, and I hope it also stays that way.
I feel kind of bad for saying all of this, but I want to let all my thoughts out.
I hope the story does not lead to a situation where the author over accentuates relationships and harems.

Not as bad as Weed from LMS

Im not a fan of this novel only because the Mc is pretty much a scumbag but not as much as Weed.

The plot os decent at best but still can get you caught up sometimes.

The greatest flaw is the fact that the Mc can do a lot of things either goos or bad but he just picks to be a mother fucking scumbag when one least expects it.

Interesting but ...

The unique ability, the world, races, places, etc. are good enough, as others have said, but the problem I have is that it gives off an immature feeling, too much typical Japanese not-so-funny-in-the-21st-century humor. If I was 14 or 15, I could enjoy it.

One of the best "Another World" venture

I really like this one, the MC does not sympathise over others misgreaves nor is he a complete dunce. He is smart, selfish and possesses a true God like power which he himself comments on quite often. He doesn't have any world conquering goal nor does he want to play the Vigilante of the weak Card...he is in a true essence a "World Adventurer" and sticks by that.

One thing that separate this piece of work with others in the same genre is that the supporting characters are very well fleshed out and get their own screen time, there is also a great Coherent Plot happening in the background coupled with matured themes (Politics, racism, Socio-economic environment) which ropes in the world building quite fluently.

and others. if you want a character who is actually smart and has had this done to him:
"What the main character needs to taste is failure and have it shoved down his throat so hard he'll come back with some real conviction and goals. He needs to be stepped on and humiliated to a point he would be left emotionally scarred and crying out in a fit and laugh his own inability and stupidity."

then you should read Ark (Novel). it has a MC that has tasted despair and poverty and yet isn't completely heartless like Weed from The Legendary Moonlight Sculptor (Novel), although he does have his moments of being motivated by money rather than his emotions he tends to use both of them equally because he himself has had his fair share of problems whether its his severely ill and hospital ridden mother or his self sacrifice for the sake of others. it doesn't have many chapters atm but i have a feeling it'll get better in the future but with slightly slower development(think The Gamer but with less grinding and cliffhangers and more development).

Edit: im on chapter 23 btw
