I seriously don't get the high rating.
Sorry this author is overrated af , all of her works are shallow and boring, I only kinda liked ZE.
This one is actually her worst work tbh , I dropped it after 8 chapter, it's boring, shallow, toxic and without any purpose.

Has some good points, but even more bad ones

Has it's + and - points:

+ Some of the pairings are quite likable

- Rape (the manga actually starts with rape and I hate that pairing - Izumi and the other guy, there's no valid reason for them to be a pair)
- Too many characters and pairings - The manga keeps introducing new and new pairings without finishing the stories of the already introduced pairings
- "Story" jumps all over the place, both time wise and pairing wise. Combined with too many pairings and people in general I got lost in who is who and didn't care about some of the pairings at all

If it focused on 2-3 pairs max and kept telling the stories chronologically it'd be much better. Also, not a fan of rape.

Conclusion: Can't recommend this manga.

I Never Thought I Would Rate this a 10

But then again I never thought that I would read yaoi either ^_^
While there are a few shortcomings
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
(unresolved ends and too many characters just coming and going, a bit convoluted time line, and it is a bit sad to see that besides two three minor characters everyone is gay)
this manga really deserves a 10.
First of the art: BEAUTIFUL.
Second, Character development actually takes place!!
Third, The characters have actual background stories!!
Fourth, the theme of the scum is REALLY handled much better than SOOO many other manga (though it still falls short of Harada's standard but then that's because within Love Mode's narrative structure this isn't needed)
Fifth, I JUST LOVE THE ART; so sexy.

worth skipping pages

Rating: 4.5  / 10.0 skip those unnecessary drama. I would love to rate it higher but then those heavy angst-drama took over and really fast to introduce new couples thus the story dragged on. Tbh, i love the first couple more but unfortunately after the intro of the other couples...i almost want to drop it. But i managed to finish it by skipping pages or...rather volumes lol.

Highly Average, Hard to Finish

That's not to say that the story itself was bad. I enjoyed it, however...

I honestly loved the first story, but the second one completely and utterly took over the manga. This manga has eleven volumes, which is about seven volumes too many. As I read through the manga, I was left with the feeling that the manga really dragged on. They were introducing new couples while others were left unfinished and in the end, I felt really unsatisfied. Everyone and their mothers end up in the hospital at one point or another and it was very repetitive to the point where I stopped reading after six volumes. I'm sure when the manga first came out in 1996, it was fresh and exciting, but nowadays, it doesn't have the same depth as yaoi manga of today.

The mangaka really could've done the same stories in such a shorter amount of time with less filler happening in between.

Would I recommend this?

I... guess...? I would quit after the third volume though to save yourself a lot of time.

Don't believe the high ratings.

Why the hell is this so highly rated? There's so much rape apologia, it's ridiculous. It's brushed off so easily, it makes me sick. (2 counts of rape on the seme's part, 1 count of serious sexual assault otherwise. Sexual assault used in like every story as a plot maneuver--it's tiring, ridiculous, and repulsive, not to mention lazy writing.) (I wouldn't have been so offended by the rape if they weren't all "no-no-no-YES" or "it's ok because you love me" about it.)
The main character is a cookie cut-out for stereotypical uke; he's incredibly annoying. The main seme doesn't listen when his pursued says "no", but acts like he did nothing wrong after. He's trash. Just because you love someone doesn't mean it's okay to ignore their cries of refusal. It's not sexy or sweet. So stop.
There's all kinds of tedious misunderstandings, and cheesy, old, and terrible Japanese humour.
Same old "but I'm not homo!" and "even if he is homo that's okay"--just shut up already. I can't tell if it's just the translation that's terrible or the writing's actually that bad. It's like a really bad soap opera.
I bore through 4 volumes or so before I skipped to the later volumes to see what all the fuss was about. The art improved but the writing was still horrible. I need brain bleach, ugh.
Don't believe anyone who claims that if you're a BL fan, that you should read this. Save yourself the headache. You haven't seen heart-wrenching until you've read No.6 and Nabari no Ou, or played DMMD's Clear routes.

I can't possibly recall how many times I've revisited this manga, again and again, each time getting all sentimental and bothered without fail. The system of different couples (and many at that) taking turns in having their own stories told allows for both pros and cons imo; it's inevitable that there will be some stories and characters that might not be as charming as others, but this also ensured that when it comes to the good parts, it's Great, so much so that's it might be impossible to break away from reading.

I don't want to discuss in too much about the plots in detail, but I could guarantee that the mangaka is really talented, and there'll be no regret once you dive into the diverse and lively world that sensei had crafted. I don't deny that there are certain issues in the series that could be improved, eg. dialogues, panelling etc
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
the cause of Shiki's death is also quite silly if you think about it
but since this was sensei's first work after all, I have to say she had done quite an extraordinary job, and it would be an injustice to not award such major effort and result.

One last note, don't be put off by the dated artwork or the first couple introduced. There are a lot in the manga that awaits to be discovered ahead, and improvement is one of them.

One of a kind. Goodness, my chest hurt so much while reading this. I cried! Honestly at first, I kinda hesitated to read it because of the art style as it's not my type. But thankfully, I didn't drop it since as the story progressed, the art style also got better and more importantly, I wouldn't have known that this manga would be this wonderful. I love it so much. I'm so happy about the ending. Takamiya and Aoe have no regrets from the past anymore and they are both happy on their respective lovers. I was sad that Shiki had to die. He's lovable, bright and full of life. He died contented and with no regrets. However, I've also taken a liking to Naoya's character and his relationship with Aoe. He's hardworking and likes to persevere in life. Even though there were so many unfortunate events in his life, he still continue to live his life. Kind of quiet but intelligent. The truth is, he's my favorite character in this series and him & Aoe as my favorite couple. I can say that I love the turn of events of their story and contented with it.

However, there's one thing I regret in this series. It's Tomoki and Seichii's story. Love their story. It's very regretful and sad that Tomoki had to die!!! I feel sorry for Seichii. I literally cried for them. When I saw Seiichi in JinxKatsura's arc and realized that he came back to B&B after resigning just to be with Tomoki and Tomoki really is dead, my heart cried again!!! So much that I couldn't even properly look at him. They're my #2 favorite couple. But, I guess, that's just how things should be. And I also favored tragic endings like this. Bitter sweet endings. And I believe, they're tragic ending also contributed of them becoming my #2 favorite.

To wrap things up, I absolutely enjoy this series. I love it. I definitely read it all over again. :)

I dropped it right away after reading the first page, the art is really not my type. But then I picked up again, the story bored the hell out of me, so typical and annoying uke. But then I read Ze, I loved it so I gave Love Mode another chance and good thing I did. I love Aoe x Naoya and the rest of the couples, the art also get better over time too. And Izume (1st couple) gets better too.
Here comes the but.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Jin's story is a joke, we dont even know if he is in love with this Katsuki or not. And his love for the prince is too easy. Considering hes a host, I thought it would take a lot more for him to fall in love. I felt so bad for Fai to control himself just to let his prince sleep with a stranger. Im at the borderline of liking and hating the prince. He slept with a stranger that punched his beloved and he acts too weak most of the time. But I like him since he tried to dirty himself just to be with the one he loves.
Afterall, Jin and Seichii did not quit their job as hosts despite the pretty word "If u fall in love, quit ur job." I found it rather unfaithful.
Tein Lee did not have a happy ending. I like him a lot and Kiichi and Tein Lee really has a chemistry.
We dont even know anything about Aoe's dad. Hes super evil but all that for his lover, I would think their story would be amazing but its not there.
My least favorite is Izume host story. I found him to weak to believe. I felt bad for his past but this guy could stand up for himself at least once. He wanders at the middle of the night knowing he has a stalker. Is it really a thing a rape victim do? His seme is just a cheerful guy but nothing more. Im glad their story is short.
