Man,is this story good or what? I mean seriously, the plot is good.Very touching :] and the main character has skills and the guy loves her.I hope there are more manga like this. The action is down-right awesome, its hilarious and the you get enough of your daily dose of romance. So basically, this is one manga you definately must-read!

Disappointing

Was expecting a lot of this one after all the praise I've see, that it's the best shoujo manga, that it's better than skip beat, etc. but I'm completely disappointed, in the first place the action sequence is terrible, it's hardly fluid and hard to understand, it jumps from a scene to the next very inconsistently and at times you don't know what he heck it's talking about or where something came from. Second many thing are just stupid or ridiculous and thus tiering, even more so since they happen over and over, like all the debt bullsh*t on the first volumes or Tsukasa stopping bullets with a chain among others, seams sci-fi. She's 14 years old and beats the crap out of professional yakuza as if it was a joke (and for me at least it is). And third, I can't get myself to like the art style at all.

There are simply too many inconsistencies,
- what's the point in living a a man when she keeps cross-dressing to get attacked?
- chars don't feel real at all. The supposed cold mafia leader is mister good guy, a good chunk of the plot would disappear if he'd actually act as what he is, it's like a bad american comic were the bad guy get's sent to prison just to get out the next chapter, just how many time do they have to fight Hizaki and pardon them? And Tsukasas motivations to remain yakuza are hard to grasp at leas on the first 10 or so volumes.
- The main chars are supposed to be 14 and act as if they were much older, their age is just not believable, they even try to make a pedophile in love look as something romantic (and yeah I know it differs on some countries, still someone over 20 (24) with someone of 14 is pedophilia in my eyes)
- The world doesn't feel "crazy" or dangerous as intended and people purposely ignore a woman being raped on the street but report some people in an abandoned place...
- It's funny too how in a world were supposedly no one cares but for themselves every single char in the cast tries to mingle into Tsukasas private life and her feelings.
-
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Tsukasa being friendly with Asago who shoots her brothers and threatens to kill them is ridiculous, and she even helps her. Also I find it hard to believe that Tsukasa is more worried about not being a bodyguard anymore than her brothers lives, at this point she's not even aware she's in love

In short, the world portrayed and chars are inconsistent and things simply don't making holes everywhere as I said before. The good part in this one is the setting, the mafia boss son and the police couple daughter, etc. but it kinda ended there for me, even the comedy felt so-so, laughed about once per volume.

All in all I had a very hard time getting past the first couple of volumes and at the moment havind dropped at vol. 11 I find it doubtful I'll ever finish this one.

Wow this ended being a pure complain post, I guess I ended taking my frustration here for all the flowers people threw at this manga in their reviews. Might cool down and revise it if I ever finish this.

Last, it's a pity there is no proper translation of this, the only group available for the first 7 volumes did a job on par with an HK translation or maybe it even is one, the group didn't even bother to do QC on it. Then there is AYR for some volumes which does a much better job on the translation part but the scanlation quality is quite poor (the alternative being an unnamed group with bad quality and bad translation)

Feels like a prelude

That's how I felt while reading the last chapter. I got a very bad aftertaste of unfinished business between the lead characters.
It feles that all of the 19 volumes are the prequel of an amazing love story in a world of battle, as if the two characters will do amazing things when they mature a little (specially Tsukasa who is kinda annoying in the all "I want to stay a boy even if I feel like a girl" thing she got), like I don't know unite the Yakuza of japan, etc...

Well I guess I just wanted to see more girly Tsukasa in the end.

Even so, I am glad to have read this manga, and that it was made before Skip Beat, the art of TCP in the begin is ugly as hell, except for the puppy eyes

it's over.. ? i don't mean about the ending itself, it tends to leave you in a daze.. i mean, no more stories with tsukasa and ryuji.. it's really sad actually.. but seriously, once you start you can't stop. at times, honestly, i wanted to stop.. but i HAD to find out what happened at the end. it'll definitly make you have that feeling.

.. you know what else was sad??
Spoiler (highlight to view)
KAMO-SAAAAAAN -cry- .. i really did. like, almost titanic-movie-first-time-watching-crying. it was.. so sad. and to remember all the cute moments he missed and how he used to be there and his hilarious thoughts.. and how he basically got them together.. waaah. i also cried when shiva went.. it was weird? i was sad to see him go, HIM AND HIS LONG HAIR I WAS WITH THAT ONE GUY XD. but really.. even though he was happy, i wanted him with tsukasa. XDD it kinda.. yeah. i was just sad.

it really does do all the things a good story should do. it makes you feel. i was even cursing and yelling at the screen. XD "WHAT THE HELL DID YOU DO THAT FOR?!?" haha good times. but the thing that bothered me.. !

Spoiler (highlight to view)
the thing with ryuji and asago!! that's why i couldn't like him as much. he totally kissed her (even IF he only wanted to give her happiness, he was hardcore hurting tsukasa.) and how he easily was seducing that girl to get information. it made me mad.. and how he almost died for asago! WHAAAAT! ugh. but whatever, all good in the end.

don't let the length fool you, it'll draw you in and make you wish there was 3523523 more volumes. (okay, NOT really, but you get the point.) it's good! one of the best i've read. and i absolutely LOVED tsukasa. such strength. but she still had weaknesses. and it had PLOT!!! HOLY CRAP WHA?! it had plot! and the fighting was amazing. a shoujo where the girl actually got hurt, not got saved right before each and every time. (coincidence..? i think not!)
but yeah. i really loved the characters. .. even asago. yes. and it did have to do with.. -laughs-. and and akira! he was cute! poor thing, all stuck with his love. aaaand..

Spoiler (highlight to view)
SHIVAAAAA!!!! so pretty.. (shut up, i know it wasn't him, but..) and the hickey scene was amazing~ why did it have to be interrupted? ;[ but yeah.. at the end i realized he was the uncle too.. "wait.. if he's his brother, and.. and.. w-wait a second!!!" hahaha. but still. -is sad- at least he didn't die. :]

sorry for all the spoilers, but i didn't want to ruin anything~ so READ IT IF YOU HAVEN'T. okay? at least give it a try. it's worth at the least giving a try.

Lots of substance

This manga really got me into shojo, although in fact it's hardly a typical example of the genre, as other reviewers have mentioned. It's just...addicting. Breathtaking. Riveting. It has a fair amount of violence, but none is gratuitous - it all fits with the plot.

I actually really liked the art - it was very unusual to me, and kind of floaty and pretty. Also, I much prefer Tokyo Crazy Paradise to Skip Beat, even if I like that one too. The emotions just run so much deeper in TCP, and the characters are better as well, although they are a bit similar. I kind of wonder why everybody makes such a big deal of Skip Beat, which is a good manga, whereas a lot of people haven't even heard of TCP, which in my opinion is a great manga.

I believe I mentioned emotions already, but I should elaborate on that. This manga will tear your heart out, then put it back carefully so that it can be torn out again later. And I say that in a good way. It has a really raw atmosphere at times that makes you able to feel the characters' pain, and there are a lot of sorrowful parts.

If you don't like violence, this is not for you. In fact, I was a bit surprised at the amount and intensity of violence, since it's shojo. But if you like humour, action, romance, a bit of meaningful tragedy, and real feeling in a manga, look no further than TCP.

Didn't quite live up to its reputation, but enjoyable still

After the years I've been hearing praise for this classic, I finally read it and... while a fun read and good for a massive marathon sitting, it wasn't quite as amazing as I'd expected it to be. The plot is all over the place and it's hard to keep track of what's happening - characters fall by the wayside to be forgotten until 50 chapters later when the mangaka suddenly remembers they existed and chapter arcs end without proper resolution. More often than not, it doesn't even end; the manga just moves on to another plot line and you figure out that the arc must've ended. And while Ryuji and Tsukasa's romance started off with great promise and really heated up for a while, the Ayago obstacle dragged for far too long and the original promise is never fulfilled - rather, the romance just settles down and all the sparks fizzle. I still enjoyed the story, but I was left with a distinct sense that I wasn't satisfied.

This story... I love it. I mean, it's choke-on-your-Pepsi hilarious, bury-your-face-in-the-pillow-and-squeal adorable, wallow-with-a-tub-of-ice-cream depressing, and all in all -- one hell of a manga. I mean, sure, they don't particularly act like they're fourteen, but it didn't really bother me that much. The only thing that struck me as odd was...

Spoiler (highlight to view)
SHIVA IS HER UNCLE?!?! WHY IS HE GIVING HER HICKEYS. *facepalm*

*cough* But otherwise, it's a wonderful manga. XD I greeeatly recommend it. Tsukasa is a hardcore heroine. I love that.

despite of its nice reviews, i've been avoiding this manga ever since because of the art. after months of dilly-dallying, i finally gave in. and whew! i was hooked. the heroine is just so unbelievable, she's amazing! u'll just have to get used to her short hair. but when she's in disguise? whew! she's beautiful.
this is hilarious, action-packed manga that i just can't get enough. i want more, more, more! although the romance is a bit sloooow, u won't regret it. they love each other yes, and it shows. they just never get around to admitting it to each other sooner! argh! i have to find another manga similar to this.

I read this about 5 years ago and I still remember it. I love this series, I'm NOT a fan for shoujo-romance manga anymore but, this series I really enjoyed. I read this at least 7 times and never got sick of it. The main characters are quirky and funny in their own way. This is one of the few shoujo mangas I enjoy. it's an enjoyable read give it a try.

One of the best Shoujos.

Tokyo Crazy Paradise has one of the best plot. I like how the theme of getting revenge for her parents remains throughout the whole story; it doesn't die for 5 volumes and comes back. The characters are very well drawn. Tsukasa is very gorgeous with all of her wigs and apparently, her boobs were bigger than Asago. With Tsukasa, she doesn't have that fake positiveness; not everyone likes her for that and she proves her positiveness with action. I like the fact that she's very skilled with her uh...chain whip. It's very creative; an exotic fighting with a chain whip is like skilled dancing. To me.

I like how Ryuji was drawn; his presence and looks demands superior authority and attention. Yeah, he doesn't look 14 but this isn't the only manga with characters like that. I like the fact that he's such a pervert for such a "yakuza" guy; so it doesn't look like he's always tense. You start to get the feeling that Ryuji doesn't do a good job hiding his emotions; it's apparent the reason he kept Tsukasa by his side was because with her, he could express himself more easily. I mean, Tsukasa wasn't even destined to be his seisai (wife and protector of the Sandaime) and she starts proving herself without even knowing it!
