It was the summer of 2009 when it all started for Minato. Fourteen years old and preparing for his high school entrance exams, he meets Naoki Okisaka, the long-term guest of a small guesthouse inn Minato’s mother runs.
Naoki, a Tokyo resident who once used to live in Minato’s town, immediately intrigues the young Minato who dreams of someday going to Tokyo and exploring the world outside of his small hometown. Minato drags Naoki along on his shenanigans with his best friend Akiyoshi all summer.

This manga was wonderful. It's sad but sweet, and in the end, happy. The art is great. There are certain facial expressions I would happily frame and put on my wall. They really make certain scenes vividly emotional in a way the words alone couldn't. I've noticed this with the artist's other works as well. The story and characters felt original in spite of familiar tropes. Absolutely wonderful.
Had potential, but went downhill from the 2nd volume with all the nonsense and forced drama.

Minato is such a captivating character here. I love how he's drawn in the panels, like a dream. You can really see how this manga is told from Naoki's perspective.
I'm actually not rooting for Minato to be with Naoki. I actually prefer him with Akiyoshi LOL. Although at this rate Akiyoshi needs to get his ass into gear ~_~ it would be a nice change of pace for Naoki to have moved on and for him to teach that lesson to Minato in Tokyo. Please give me this itz-sensei!! I don't really care for age gaps that start so young!!!!
edit: the second volume was really clunky. I was looking forward to the development, even the potential love triangle incoming, but it was all for some weird convoluted drama that ended up being a non-issue. Why have Akiyoshi have these weird feelings anyways if they were ultimately inconsequential to the plot? I also didn't really care for the relationship development, it felt clunky and sparse. I was waiting for some kind of parallel between Akiyoshi's feelings and Naoki's friend's feelings, but it never happened. Characterization and plot aside, the art is still breathtaking.
