The gamer is basically instant gratification. You enjoy it because you desire it. The gamer's ability is what keeps me coming back. Who wouldn't want a power where you can instantly cheat life its self? Are you struggling with money, then just kill some monsters. Are you unsatisfied with your grades? Then raise up your intelligence and wisdom. Do you feel physically unfit? Raise up your strength. The list goes on. Instant reading books, having perfect health, skill creation, strategy mind abilities, flying, any power that has ever existed in games you play can be achieved with time, and then some.
So all of that sounds amazing to have! That is what keeps me wanting more, because I can't help but think how much more relaxing life would be with The Gamer's ability! However, when going into a story you expect a lot more than just level grinding. You want an adventure, a story, connections to the characters, and overall a good time where everything continues to move forward! That is exactly what The Gamer lacks. The author has stated himself he didn't do well enough on writing a plot. There is barely any character development, or story progression in the entire 100 chapters. Now I can tell reading the most recent chapters that the author has been trying to improve. I see a story coming. Although the biggest problem being, not enough progression in 1 chapter, which you have to wait 7 days for. It is slow, but not slow as you would think. Slow as in, it seems the author is too slow to decide what direction he wants to take the series in! So it has basically been a standstill of just the MC leveling up, and training. Mind you, I do enjoy his grinding. No overall development for the story, the potential in the series is really good, especially when you see the threats from the abyss (The Golem/giant thingy fight). After that the series just regresses.
Tl;Dr - If you're looking for something with an MC who basically gets to cheat life out with close to no overall story development, that has massive potential and keeps messing it up, then this is your story. No doubts about it.
