A Truthful Picture is a collection of stories about boy's love. And that's pretty much all there is to it. The first story is more developed than the rest and runs for multiple chapters. The rest vary in length and content, but provide more of the same easy-going atmosphere.
The stories are really adorable in a mild, laid-back kind of way. The narrative isn't forced and the characters take on a natural sort of progression. It has more of a cute and hesistant feel to it rather than a more obvious push. This isn't really a volume that would interest hardcore yaoi fans, or fans of high drama/comedy but if that doesn't bother you, the subtle cuteness of the stories makes up for any of the other weak points, like the art.. The art is really...not that great. It's pretty plain; sparse backgrounds, inconsistent dimensions. It's not awful and it still manages to work but artistic style is a factor that may drive people out of enjoying the story.
This is a Digital Manga Guild project and DMG projects really range in quality. This one tends to sit in the middle of the road. There are a few errors here and there, but overall (and in comparison to other releases) the job wasn't badly done. I'm not unhappy having spent money on it at all.
I really have to note here that I wouldn't recommend purchasing any manga releases on Kindle. The dimensions of a Kindle release are too small and fuzzy and really take away from the quality of the purchase. If you want to make any purchases, make them on emanga.com where you can enlarge the size of the page and therefore see things in clear, precise detail. The price of the releases is also a little cheaper on emanga.com, working out to be around $6.95 each instead of the typical $7.95 you'd spend for a Kindle ebook. The Kindle option does have one thing over emanga, though. You can actually download and keep the ebook instead of having to access it online every time you want to read it. In both cases, Sublime Manga makes DMG look pretty pale in comparison. You can purchase their work for a cheaper price and have the option to download and keep in .pdf format or read online. They also have a team of professionals working on their projects and the difference definitely shows.
