This was such an enjoyable and amusing read! I haven't laughed so much with a webtoon or manga in a while lols Of course, this had it's flaws too, but it was an enjoyable read nonetheless. To summarize:
Pros:
- Like I already mentioned, the comedy: it was done in a very over-the-top kinda nonsensical way, but it was soooo refreshing lol This author's strongest point is definitely the comedy! I laughed way too much while reading it lol
- Role reversal: if you like assertive female protags, you will definitely like this webtoon! I am always looking forward to read reversed gender roles, and this one definitely didn't disappoint! Yesu/Holy (the female protagonist) is so strong both physically and mentally and is always so ready to jump in to save Subin/Jamie (the male protagonist), while he is more reserved, shy and insecure. But at the same time, Yesu can also get shy about romance sometimes and Subin can be strong willed too, so the author was able to balance their personalities well and make it work in the cutest, most amazing and amusing ways possible haha (and without making it become too repetitive or boring!) Meaning, they had their well done character development while also still maintaining their good points that made them stand out from other romance-focused webtoons/mangas main characters (at least imo), so I really liked it.
- The main characters' relationship: gosh I just loved Yesu and Subin's relationship so much, their romance felt so genuine and pure. They had a healthy relationship filled with mutual respect and all they ever did was for each other's well being. Yesu, while sometimes can be a bit forward, would always put Subin's comfort first and foremost, and Subin did the same as well. I was afraid that the author would focus too much on the comedy and would drag out the romance, but I am glad that wasn't the case! They had many lovey dovey scenes and I loved every bit of it uwu
- Likeable side characters: I liked all side characters as well! They all played significant roles in the webtoon and I like that there was no "main villain". The main climax with the "villains" wasn't done in a way too dramatic way that would disrupt the fun of the story and the author even wrote them in a way that would make us sympathetic about them.
- Very pretty art: gosh the art was gorgeous! The author was able to convey all emotions really well through the art and the chibis were adorable too!
Cons:
- Some side characters' development being cast aside: unfortunately, I felt that many likeable side characters' story arcs were left underdeveloped, because I felt unsatisfied with how some of them had a lot of potential but the author never gave them a well deserved character arc. For a 141 chapters webtoon, I think the author could have handled some side characters stories at some point. For example:
The red-head who liked Yesu: I felt so bad for him! I wished the author could have given him another love interest bcus poor guy suffered from beginning to end and he didn't even appear in the last chapter ;_;
TR and Aimee: I am glad TR survived and became a real grim reaper but I thought there would be something going on between TR and Aimee. Especially considering TR liked Yesu and Aimee (who was one of the best side characters imo, I loved her!) was so interested in TR. It would have made a perfect way to heal TR's broken heart lol
Uhmji/Erin: god she was the funniest character imo lol and I also felt sorry that she had to endure Yesu and Subin's shenanigans all the time XD I wish we could have seen more of her and that cute waiter.
- Bad translations: I can't believe the official translations could have been this bad. I started by reading the translations made by a scanlation group and they were so well done, but then when LINE picked up this webtoon, the translations went downhill. There were a lot of typos and I really don't understand why they would give random english names to the characters instead of sticking to the korean names lol
There are definitely more pros than cons so I totally recommend this fun and light-hearted webtoon! I just wish there was more!
