Description

Detective Joo Hyuk's ordinary life is flipped upside down on the day the killing vote begins, giving citizens a chance to punish killers that evaded punishment. Gaetal, the mysterious figure controlling this system, claims it's justice for the forgotten, while Hyuk and his team try but fail to prevent the deaths. With the increasing number of victims and growing support for the votes, will Hyuk be able to catch Gaetal and stop this madness? Or will he have to witness the demise of true justice?

short and simple story

I read this until the very end and I think it's too rushed towards the end. I've never seen the drama but I've heard it's very different from the webtoon (and seeing that the main character's gender is even changed, I think it might be a different story completely, so don't expect both versions to be completely the same).

The story was very nicely paced in the beginning (up to episode 40-ish). There were a lot of interesting stories, but it seemed like there was not enough time to finish it all (this webtoon has 63 episodes). My main complaints are in the final episodes:

- We don't see Joo Min anymore! She was very sympathetic towards Jihoon and didn't want him to get the death penalty. She begged her brother to help him and begged Jihoon to come clean himself. Yet, from episode 50 or so, she never appears again and is never mentioned again. Even when Jihoon eventually receives a light sentence due to helping the police, and even when Jihoon eventually dies, WE DON'T HEAR FROM HER! Why did they make her one of the main characters for the first 30-40 episodes?

We don't really know what happened to Gaetal's underlings. Or any of the Gaetal targets AFTER the original Gaetal (Jihoon) is caught. Everything feels rushed. We don't even find out why the fake Gaetal afterwards kept going, even though they clearly only had one target, which is the congressman. We don't even find out what happened to the congressman after the case, only that he is hated by the nation and his family. I was bummed because I really wanted to see that one play out.

The whole stealing the program and being the fake Gaetal thing could have been explained a bit more better. It's very sad that it just feels like something unimportant that's only there for the last 10 episodes. Idk if the author meant to make it so that the fake Gaetal group is just something you won't even care about, or if they wanted to give the fake Gaetal group a backstory but didn't have the time/energy for it. They came and went in a blink.

Overall, if they had kept to the pace they had at the beginning, this could have been such a good webtoon!!! Sadly I think the author just wanted to wrap it up towards the end and just cut a lot of stories that could have developed and played out a bit more. It probably could have used a few more episodes just to help it play some stories out.
