Not especially deep but a very fun lead
by MatrixM

Reviewed @ch61
Story-wise this isn't anything really out there.
I do like the backstory of the female lead, who had a tragic past in that she was in solitary confinement for a decade. Ordinarily this would drive someone insane...But I guess her power helped her stay grounded.
It's really tragic when we get occasional flashbacks to her, she was just an innocent loving kid...

Anyway, where this series really excels and makes itself a worthwhile read is the comedy. It's not a comedy series (it's more fantasy/politics/romance/slice-of-life/comedy blend). But it IS laugh out loud funny quite a few times. Largely thanks to the female lead being so goddamn funny at times, usually through her sincerity or her reactions or her misunderstandings of people trying to politically speak to her (though...it's kinda weird that we DO see her politically talk around people in two different scenes, so she DOES feel inconsistently written in that way. But it's still so funny when she misunderstands or bulldozes ahead that I'm not deducting points for that)
To be clear, this isn't one of those political thrillers about smart people outmaneuvering each other. No one in this series is especially smart, they're largely average intelligence. Don't want to give a false impression of what this series is about

Her business idea was really unexpected, too...

Point is, I'll stick with it (or rather, wait for chapters and read in batches). If you want a laugh, give it a go.

good story and great comedic timing

Either this story is a victim of hate bombing or I am the exact target demographic for the comedy because I thought it was hilarious.

There are so many manhwas praised for being funny that I thought were too on the nose, and this one, that I really liked and thought was a subtle and fun comedy of errors, is not receiving the love it deserves. I don't understand.

I love the characters, and the main couple, and the pace and plot of the story. If you like comedy based on misunderstanding you are going to love this. There is also a nonchalant MC and a more complex than average politics involved.

I honestly think that considering the genre this one deserves a ten.

But too much miscommunication between the characters stops being funny and just gets irritating. Dropped after 29 chapters.

Could've been good

I don't know what else to say about this other than it's not... As good as it could be. It has a good premise, and it definitely has the potential to be good, but it somehow fails all the setup the plot has been given.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
- Aristine wants to make money and be independent of Tarkan's riches--why? There is no deeper reason, and maybe she doesn't need a deep reason, but I feel like this story has failed to explain WHY Aristine wants to make her own money. All of a sudden, she has "a business idea" and "wants to make her own money" with no rhyme or reason.
- It has been 30 chapters and the mentions of business have been very vague. Maybe I just hate slowburns, but 30 chapters in, and we're only at their wedding? The story could use some speeding up. They seem hellbent on telling us every single thing Aristine is doing when they don't need to. It feels like they're just filling up episode counts.
- She's been exiled all her life and has a superpower that allows her to see the outside world--she just won't know if it's the past, present, or future. So when she was exiled, how does she know that what she's seeing is relevant to the outside world? What if it's a thing of the past? Or the future? This is a huge point in the story but it is the LEAST fleshed-out thing. The author only uses it when it's convenient and also to explain the reason why Aristine is so smart and adapts well to the outside world even after being locked away for most of her life. She should be dumb--which she is--but the story paints her in a light that forces us to think she's smart. She's not. She's just dumb lucky. But the story WANTS us to think everything she's doing is a big brain move when it's not.
- I don't really see the gag/comedy aspect of this webtoon as previous users have mentioned.

Other than these, there are so many things they could have explained better. This story had so much potential yet the way they've written it has made it so bad. The plot is super interesting, just the way it's being presented is off to me.

Another one of those where everyone like the dumb annoying selfish FL for no apparent reason.
The ML is typical 2d pick up trash write with him being super cringy and bul*Sh*tty.
All other Mobs just "likes" her.
Idk why this kind of trash exist but I think the webtoon industry is doomed.

This FL is too good for these little boys. At the same time she's not smart or clever either. Nothing she's done has shown she's supposed to be. Everyone just keeps telling us that she is.

Chapter 15 was the final straw.

Like, what kind of ruler are you going to be if the literal first thing you do when you don't like something is to set fire to the thing that'll give you the intel you need to make an informed decision about a very important change in your life? And threaten the person who's supposed to help you become wiser??

If I was ML's daddy and heard that I'd be like, nah, kiddo. You do not deserve to be in the running for Crown Prince because that single move was unbelievably dumb as fuck. How am I supposed to entrust am entire goddamn country to you after what you did to your betrothed?

@Shygirlz is spot on about this being contrived, skips over how hot the ML's subordinates are, and somehow entirely misses the complete commitment to gags. I think that's where the contrivance comes in, setting up situation comedy beats at an unrelenting pace. Maybe it serves the actual story poorly, but it's pretty hard not to laugh consistently through every episode. I'll probably end up rating it higher than 8 by the time it's done because of the high quality goofs, if the story doesn't entirely fall apart.

Contrived but okay

It’s one of those stories where they show a character is beautiful and smart primarily by narrating other people’s thoughts about how beautiful and smart they are, rather than through the character’s actions.

I like how she’s got a “good head on her shoulders” practical personality, but her actions are kind of questionable (upon first meeting, feeding the king and addressing him informally). While all the characters around her react to her politics plays as if they were big brain uber smart moves, as a reader the whole situation just seems contrived solely for the purpose of showing off how the female lead’s smart. Instead of demonstrating a situation where what’s mentioned would actually be the case, we just read a character’s thoughts about how “she said X which must imply Y so we need to do Z otherwise A will be in trouble” where it’s just spelled out and must be taken at face value even when like, why couldn’t it play out another much simpler way?

The art is okay, the male lead looks great whereas the other characters look okay.

The plot is entertaining so far so still reading.
