Description

A schoolgirl who was adopted by a family experiences hardships at school and home. Her foster family treats her as Reika, their daughter who had died a couple years ago. This one kind of reminds me of Mars. But holy sh**, this one made me feel even worse, it's like an open wound and just makes the reader suffer their pain. The schoolmates are cruel, people are ruthless and the emotions are raw; it's not an easy read by any means. If you are looking for a sweet romance I suggest you look elsewhere because this one, if you are into bubbly shoujo, will probably make you nauseated from the pure hatred of most of the characters. Other than that, this manga was simply incredible and I highly suggest it.

Holy crap, I didn't think this manga would turn out like that! I was so confident about the outcome and some things were so obvious to me I almost stopped reading it but HOLY CRAP CRAZY TWIST later on and it's frikking amazing how good this manga is! At first I thought I wouldn't like this manga cuz it seems a bit too emotional and sad for me but the character development here is so damn beautiful that it makes my heart go crazy. Look, if you're reading this comment, and you're looking for a manga that will give you a roller coaster of emotions, twists, growth development in the characters and beautiful art work, then i highly highly suggest you read this manga. Not to mention the ending was absolutely wonderful and frikkin perfect.
UGH SO MUCH LOVE FOR THIS MANGA!

10/10 hands down one of the craziest manga's I've ever read.

Mixed feelings

I thought the plot was great - keeping up the suspense, dealing with psychological traumas etc, a gripping read. I mostly enjoyed it though it could get a little boring in places.
When it introduced the tension with the character Yukari, and then got into the whole fire business it started to get a little tedious.
Another thing was that all of the characters just came across as a little stupid and selfish which got on my nerves.
And what was up with the ambulance scene at the very end?
It kept me reading all the way till the end so it was definitely a good read, but not a great one.

i'm not an easy person to please, but i have to say that this is one of the best romance mangas out there. pity about the whole plagiarism controversy, but still top notch quality. pacing is great, art is good, romance is very lovely (it's a very sweet, pure love. none of this good girl fall for bad boy crap), and the characters are very loveable and deep.

i don't think this should fall under the "smut" category--it only has one bed scene and it's very mild. it ain't "shoujo" either since it's a bit more intense and mature than the avg shoujo--maybe "josei?"

all in all, a great read! i can see this adapted into a drama series.

It speaks of the skill of the mangaka to convey the characters' emotions and affect the reader. I found myself sympathizing and empathizing with the characters many times and eventually rooting for Midori and Tokio's happiness (and Wakatsuki's, he's such a wonderful character, how could I not!). There are dramatic moments, but as long as the characters have realistic reactions it works to the manga's advantage. There is a love triangle but it's handled extremely well - and by that I mean that the mangaka spends time DEVELOPING it for maximum effect.

The main thing I love about Eden no Hana is its characters; they all seem very human to me. The three main characters, in particular, are quite mature, which was a pleasant surprise since most shoujo characters tend to... not be so mature.
Midori - She's a refreshing protagonist. Her isolated behavior makes perfect sense after what she's been through, and her emotional barriers present a challenge to others (and to herself). It's a pleasure to see how she continues to grow and opens up to relationships with Tokio and Wakatsuki's help.

Tokio - His struggles to understand Midori and to define his position as her brother is admirable, amusing, and heartbreaking. I just really enjoy his warm personality and his attempts to chip away at Midori's walls.

Wakatsuki - I like how the 'third-wheel' character has an actual personality. He's evidently one of the smartest in his class, but the reader isn't hit over the head with it. I see in shoujo that the potential male love-interests have so-called defining qualities, mostly superficial - smart, handsome, etc. But Wakatsuki is as multidimensional as Tokio and Midori.

I'm also adding the 'Uncle' gardener who takes care of the school's roses. He's a minor character but he contributes to the story, oftentimes acting as a neutral confidante of Midori. I like how the mangaka doesn't overpopulate the manga with extraneous characters. The 'antagonistic' characters, the foster brother and the classmates are quite... ah, terrible people. I wonder if the classmates, at least, will show some redeemable qualities but at this point in the manga it looks like they're about to do something irreparably damaging to the heroine. :/

EDIT: Halfway through and... when a manga has be thinking, 'OH, HEART, BE STILL~!" then I know it's good. 🙂

EDIT: Done, except I struggled my way through the last few chapters since I have the raw and there aren't any scans (darn!). My god. This was fantastic. I even started to feel for the crazy father in the end. Sobbing forever. The ending was nice but I wish there was more. After all the sadness and angst going on I felt entitled to more happiness. Oh, and the watch and rose symbolism was lovely and well thought-out. This was beautiful and I upped my previous rating. Sigh, this manga leaves a void in me...need to find another manga now.

Toooooo little of midori and tokio together at the end.. its like having some friends on a super long roller coaster ride, super fun/exciting.. but then they don't laugh or talk about it when they get off! (or puke for that matter XD)
It's just as if we're supposed to assume everything will be perfect after the journey... Exactly like the Disney motto "Happily Ever After" but not quite as fulfilling just because Eden no Hana is not as innocent and clean as Disney things.

I read all of it within 2 days, always hoping and hoping that they'd be together but I just found the last volume quite ridiculous because it was too rushed (*she cried too much *). That's just my own opinion, though honestly one page she'd be fake smiling and the next she's creating a waterfall 😛 repeat around 5 times and then WALA!~ suddenly it concludes (happily?)...all within one volume =w= hahh~

i um liked it, and the art is real nice - extra credit to the extra random story at the end, about Toki's childhood with Masamune and Yukari (they are sooo ccuuuteee) but i wonder why is it thrown randomly at the end.. it would have been great if she put it in the middle somewhere (to grow their depths DURING the story, not when the story has finished hahaha...), also because i think the end should focus on the main characters and their end together since we went through such a looong journey just hoping they'd get together. For some reason, we didn't have any Tokio thoughts in the last volume either 8D haha.. sighh

one more thing i'd like to say is how i wish the mangaka would put more emphasis in the impact of each person's experience... but I guess she might have ran out of time (rushed the ending). Midori had such traumatic experiences that it would be quite impossible for her to be so selfless to give up her only sense of security!! if a normal person went through such bad things, it would be impossible for them to surrender their only source of comfort.. they would be clinging to it for their sanity lol.

come on, watching your dad light themselves on fire and dying in front of you - i would not want to be alone after that. and she even cut her hair and became "strong" afterwards...just when (the love of her life) tokio was getting separated from her too! haha noo, we probably missed the part where she did intensive therapy sessions for her childhood and for her additional misfortunes.. 😛

im disappointed with the ending but nothing should stop anyone from trying it and having completely different views with me. Some people who have vivid imagination can probably draw some lovely pictures of the main couple together (fanfic/doujinshi anyone?) lol but the ending just didn't do it justice.

I am now on chapter 40 (volume 12).
This is a very emotional manga.
No this not an incest, story. So, for those who mind, don't worry. I think most people must have figured that out by now. So, I won't put this as spoiler.
This manga is FULL of drama. Lots of romance. Not that shy about kissing and sex, which I am relieved about. (But it's not excessive either--that's why its not rated as mature)
The romance developed slowly. The main girl has gone through a lot of stuff, but she persevered and still held a pure heart. Although her child abuse past has shaped her untrusting and cold personality, she is kind and blunt when she wants to be. A very lovable person, in my opinion.

At first the story focused on the love triangle between her male schoolmate, she, and her "brother." Then later one focused on her "brother" and she when they both finally realized that they are in love with each other...but as I said, this is a drama-filled shojo manga, so naturally they don't just get together--even when they both confessed.

It's a pretty complicated and deep manga; it got so emotional at one point that I even cried!! (:surprised: I cried at a shojo plot) One thing for sure, it IS a shojo--just not a brainless one.
Like one of the comments said, I also read this in one sitting. Couldn't put it down (although I almost did when it got a bit heavier than I'd like on the child abuse--sexual harassment--stuff. I knew I couldn't really stomach even medium amount of those).

Wow...I was literally crying out "WTF!?" the entire time I was reading this...and I literally COULDN'T STOP MYSELF FROM READING THIS IN ONE STRAIGHT SITTING (not to mention download the raws for the last volume). I'd have to say that the best part of this manga are the character's relationships with each other. There are a lot of big decisions to make in this manga and I love how each character handles them. All in all, great manga that keeps you engaged the entire way and won't let you stop before you finish it! 😀

FYI, if you're not into storylines dealing with sexual abuse, I noticed that this manga does not dwell on it at all...so read it!

Eden no Hana is one of those stories that can be frustrating sometimes, but heartwarming most other times. The most irritating parts are when the characters are indecisive about who/what they want.

But, I could somehow tolerate all of that because this manga struck a cord---the author was writing a sentimental story more than a dramatic one.

What ultimately frustrates me the most is that the manga was discontinued because the author plagiarized panels from other works. The story genuinely feels believable, but ends rushed and anti-climactic. After 40 chapters, I would have at least liked to see some intimacy between Midori and Tokio, seeing as there was so much sexual tension throughout that was never properly addressed.

Sexual abuse is not legal in Japan. The only reason Midori's abusive adopted brother didn't get sent to jail is because she didn't tell the authorities. Rapists get away with rape and sexual abusive all over the place, in America too, and that doesn't mean it's legal.

Also, Midori is not a stupid helpless chick. The fact that radnip categorizes her as one is very insulting. She was abused and raped; of course she's gonna be somewhat broken after that. On the contrary. I think she's actually incredibly strong to be able to endure all of that and still move on and try to live a normal life.

Sure she's not supergirl who weighs 90 pounds and can beat up 300 pound guys. That's because this story is realistic. No one who ways 90 pounds in this story goes around beating up 300 pound guys. But even though none of the people in this story is super physical, they all have strong personalities, which, I think, is more important. Midori especially has a very strong personality and she doesn't have a problem with telling Tokio off when he's being stupid (their relationship is so much fun)

Anyway, aside from that.

The plotline of this story is very interesting, as long as you can deal with incestuous themes, and the mystery of the past is extremely intriguing. Very nice balance of lightness and comedy and darkness and tragedy.

The art is lovely. I'd give it maybe a 9 or a 9.5 out of 10.

The characters are interesting and different from each other, and their relationships with each other are complex.

Overall, this is definitely worth reading. And by the way, for those of you who think the story wasn't finished, it was. All twelve volumes have been published, and so far eleven of them have been scanlated in English.
