Description
Souta Takanashi gets a job at Wagnaria, a local family restaurant. He is "lured" there by a cute girl named Poplar, who looks like she's 10. However, she is in fact 17, a year older than him. The quirky characters include Satou, the cool chef who is in fact in love with Yachiyo, the chief who is madly in love (admiration) with their boss, Kyoko, who can't stop eating sweets and slows down the restaurant in general.
Satou's cooking assistant and "friend" is Souma, a man who can get dirt on anyone and use it against them, except for Inami, a girl who has a phobia of men and punches him before... More...

Tears.

Can not believe I been reading this for 12 years. It was a good run and I'm going to miss it.

To understand this manga you need some japanese culture background, somethings make no sense if you don't have some concepts about their language and culture. Don't give a low score only because you can't understand some of the situations i would like to see all the volumes translated, its pretty good, even the anime is a good comedy it has huge holes in the plot that the manga fill later on. (How the hell I write this)

This is one of those mangas that doesn't quite work in English. It's a 4 koma, slice of life comedy with jokes and situations that fall flat when put into an English context and language. It was a lot more satisfying read in Japanese and the first volume isn't as good as the rest 2-6+.
Most people probable won't like this series because of the 4 koma style and slice of life situation, but if your like me and that doesn't bother you and you don't take the story seriously it's an enjoyable read and potentially quite funny. If this style of comedy is your thing I also recommend "Honey Comb" (NOT "Hachi no su" though), with almost the same exact scenario (family restaurant and strange workers) but minus the 4 koma setup. It also has more lol situations, IMO.

It fails as a slice of life and it fails as a gag comedy manga. The characters are incredibly cliched and the art is nothing to write home about. Why would anyone read this? *scratches head*
Not too bad...

Not too bad but not that great either. It's kinda funny sometimes but mixed with a lot of boring scenes and the humour doesn't always hit the mark, either. Medaka is much funnier as a 4 koma.
